I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

John Peel. It was one of those "I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard " moments.
David Bowie.
Stephen Hawking. Obviously I knew he was terminally ill but he'd beaten the odds for so long.

SusieQ5604 · 11/11/2018 00:07

Glenn Frye

HeronLanyon · 11/11/2018 00:07

Bowie. Went straight to heddon street with flowers. Cried on the bus.
Leonard Cohen. Awful week (trump elected).
Amy Winehouse. Just bleak and sad.
Ella Fitzgerald. Met her once. Loved her. True icon.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 11/11/2018 00:18

Terry Wogan he was just always there and suddenly he isn’t. He was a comfort to have on in the background

Any Winehouse I still feel heavy hearted listening to some of her music

Peaches Geldof just so tragically sad. I felt very sad about Paula Yates too she seemed so lost and vulnerable

Andromeida59 · 11/11/2018 00:23

Definitely Carrie Fisher as she was such an important part of my life growing up. I think it hit me because of all those that died in 2016. Alan Rickman also. What a god awful year.

IJustLostTheGame · 11/11/2018 00:23

Kurt Cobain. I'm still gutted over him. If it wasn't for Nirvana I would never have made it through my teenage years. His music was the only friend I had for a long time.

Steve Irwin. Legend.

Alan Rickman. He was just brilliant in everything. I only watched the Harry potter films for him.

unexpectedtwist · 11/11/2018 00:26

Chester Bennington. I'm still and possibly always will be gutted.

Alan Rickman - always x

louderthan1 · 11/11/2018 00:28

John Peel. His radio show was a huge part of my growing up and I always thought he sounded like such a nice man. I always thought I'd like him to be my dad, as my own dad died just before I hit my teens.

Also George Michael, just because I have so many happy memories of dancing to his music when I first started going clubbing. I also know that his coming out really helped one of my best friends to come out.

DesdemonasHandkerchief · 11/11/2018 11:31

Helmetbymidnight actually Bowie had just turned 69 two days earlier when he died, so not over 70. And I think 'as good as it gets' would be to slip away at a ripe old age in your sleep rather than being ravaged by cancer. But I do agree he was hugely talented Grin And actually although I thought he'd be around forever when you think what he put his poor old body through during 'the lost years' I suppose we should be thankful.

youvegottobekidding · 11/11/2018 12:56

Micheal Jackson- I was due to give birth any day so my hormones were all over the place but I was quite upset & knocked sideways at his death!

Paul Walker, I still get teary watching the end of F&F 7.

Robin Williams, such a talent, what a shame.

Steve Irwin, a crazy, nice likeable guy, so sad.

poppy196 · 11/11/2018 17:24

@DesdemonasHandkerchief Thank you for defending Bowie . 69 is no age now but my god he did look so very great even in his older years .
Just got in from walking dog and listened to David's best of album on walk .
There will never be such a talented singer .

Chester Bennington. He's the first famous person whose death I was genuinely upset by. It was such a shock particularly as I'd been at his last gig and I was blown away by his talent. I cried listening to Mike Shindo's EP Post Traumatic in hearing the real pain in his loss

Undercoverbanana · 11/11/2018 18:00

Caroline Aherne - loved her. A troubled lady who brought so much joy.

Kirsty McColl - big fan.

Princess Diana - shook the whole country, whatever you thought about her.

I remember my Mum telling me Elvis had died. She was a huge fan and very upset. It kind of rubbed off on me seeing her so upset.

Helmetbymidnight · 11/11/2018 18:37

I’m not attacking Bowie, I love his music and always thought he was fab - I’m just saying I don’t find the peaceful and prepared for death of a happy, talented, wealthy, fulfilled, much loved and respected 69 year old devastating in any way.

It is privileged beyond most people’s wildest dreams.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 11/11/2018 18:43

Stuart Baggs from the Apprentice. He had a lot of people turn him into a joke, but he did well for himself and always came across as a genuinely good person. I remember watching him on Come Dine With Me and then only about 2 days later it was on the news that he had passed away. He was the same age as me and I just found it really sad that someone so young and with a lot to give can just be taken just like that.

Pebblespony · 11/11/2018 18:53

I honestly have never cried over anyone famous dying. I wonder am I in the minority?

Kirbs1979 · 11/11/2018 19:06

I stopped watching the news while Jade Goody was dying. My mum had just died in the January from cancer and I found all the talk of making her comfortable etc upsetting. Sobbed when she died on mother's day but I was already finding that day difficult.

TomaszIsMineBitch · 11/11/2018 19:16

Steve irwin passing really affected me. I was quite young and he was the only person on my "people who i need to meet before i die" list.

Robin williams because i could relate to him so much

Alan rickman because i was a huge fan of him and loved almost everything he was in.
ALWAYS Sad

Sarcelle · 11/11/2018 19:18

David Bowie. That was a real punch in the guts.

Victoria Wood, Terry Wogan and weirdly as I am not a football fan - the ex England manager Bobby Robson. He was such a gent.

Krouse64 · 11/11/2018 19:41

Recently the one which hit me was Emma chambers. I loved Alice

SchrodingersMeowth · 11/11/2018 20:29

I was particularly bothered by Bowie, Alan Rickman and Leonard Nimoy.

I’ve cried real tears over Chester Bennington though, mostly because the warning signs were there in the music and the interviews but it still happened. I’ll admit to being mostly angry that he’d left 5 children behind and I imagine having a parents tragic death being so public would be really fucking traumatic.

Isleepinahedgefund · 11/11/2018 20:48

Peaches Geldof, that really got to me. So tragic for all concerned.

Not so much, but George Michael - end of an era! And I took a Moment when I heard about Michael Jackson. I also found Amy Winehouse’s death really tragic.

Grimtimes · 11/11/2018 21:22

Marvin Gaye...when I was a young teen...loved his music from a very early age

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/11/2018 22:19

Terry Pratchett's. I cried uncontrollable snotty tears. Then I rewrote the eulogy I was giving that day to include the line "personal is not the same as important". That was for a man who had himself fought and lost against a cruel and demeaning disease.

JohnCRaven · 11/11/2018 22:25

Bloody hell. This thread is a review of people who've died that I didn't realise.

Terry Pratchett and Jonah Lomu to name 2 😱
