I still struggle with David Bowie dying when he did , he had just brought out a new album and thought all was well . He and Pink Floyd were my childhood music .
Also Freddy Mercury, just feel so sad that such a talented and versatile man died too young when now people with aids live long happy lives .
People I have never met but feel so much sadness that they have gone .

Alan Rickman! I haven’t cried over him but when I watch Harry Potter or Sweeney Todd I can’t believe he’s gone. He was such a good actor.

Jungster · 09/11/2018 18:41

When I heard Caroline Ahern died I was very saddened. Can't explain why.

BonnieF · 09/11/2018 18:42

I don’t grieve for people I never met, with one single exception: Ayrton Senna. He was my childhood hero, and I grew up thinking he was an invincible superman. His death shocked me profoundly.

BlancheM · 09/11/2018 18:42

Peaches Geldof was like a jolt, wake up call.

Amy Winehouse :( I saw her shortly before and was knocked for 6 when she passed away. I could not believe it. Some people had an image of her from when she was at her most unwell and thought it was inevitable, but it wasn't. Such a wonderful woman and brilliant with kids

Jungster · 09/11/2018 18:42

Yes Peaches Geldof. I was shocked and sad to hear that one as well.

LuxuryWoman2018 · 09/11/2018 18:43

George Michaels death more than most, I’ve never really felt more than a bit sad or shocked over a celebrity death but the fact it was Christmas Day, he was alone really got to me.

Most celeb deaths will make me feel sad though and I’ll catch up with their music, films, books or whatever and think of them and their talent fondly.

Actually, I did feel incredibly sad when Tom Petty died.
Tears though, no, not for people I’ve never met.

Ceebeegee · 09/11/2018 18:43

Greg Lake. I was a fan of his music but had never met him or seen him live. But when they announced on the radio he had died, I had to pull over because I cried. I can't listen to "I believe in Father Christmas " without tearing up

Belmo · 09/11/2018 18:43

Scott Hutchison.

Always thought people were a bit silly for being upset when people they don’t know die, but I am still so gutted by his death.
Couldn’t believe how much I was affected by it.

jputthekettleon · 09/11/2018 18:50

James Gandolfini - Tony Soprano

Racheyg · 09/11/2018 18:51

Heath ledger
Phillip seymore Hoffmann
Aryton senna - was very young but huge f1 fan and couldn't really understand why my family were so upset

Tinawithtwoboys · 09/11/2018 18:54

Michael Jackson. I still find it hard to listen to his music

CoolCarrie · 09/11/2018 19:02

Victoria Wood and Caroline Aherne both died far too young, such talented brilliant women, . I watch dinner ladies and The Royle Family with tears in my eyes. George Michael and David Bowie also made me cry, and David Cassidy, had his posters on my wall.

noideaatallreally · 09/11/2018 19:06

Gary Speed - such a shock. So tragic. I wish he could have been there to see Wales do us proud in recent years. We owe a lot to the legacy he left.

Victoria Wood - I felt this so personally. She just spoke to me. I would have loved to have known her in real life. Caroline Ahern for the same reason. The Royals Family feels like it is written about my childhood. She was a genius. I was so upset and shoked when she died,

Oh My God Kirsty Maccoll. I adore her. Could listen to her music all day long. So angry about her death. I grieve for her, for her poor boys, and for what we lost in terms of her future contribution to music.
Allan Rickman, Rik Mayell, George Michel - such icons - and such a shock.

Beautiful soul that was Robin Williams.

Jean Alexander - because she reminded me of my beloved gran when she was Hilda Ogden.

ohamIreally · 09/11/2018 19:07

Amy Winehouse. She was so talented and I identified with her lyrics so strongly. It affected me for months. She was so young and so exploited. It makes me really angry when I hear that line in "Rehab" my daddy thinks I'm fine.

Mrskeats · 09/11/2018 19:09

The journalist and writer A A Gill
One of my all time favourite writers.

Josiebloggs · 09/11/2018 19:11

Chester Bennington, his early years were so similar to someone I love, as was his struggle with the past.
Hit home how, no matter how much someone is loved, adored and seems okay, any moment, any time their demons could catch up with them.

ChodeofChodeHall · 09/11/2018 19:11

I know what you mean, ohamireally. Her dad has a lot to answer for.

I am dreading the death of Anne Tyler - she is very elderly now. I have loved her books and treasure every new one in case it's the last.

FuckKnuckle · 09/11/2018 19:12

Eric Morecambe's death was one of the few times I've cried about a celebrity dying.

Steve Irwin was another.

And Victoria Wood, I think because it was so unexpected.

MissMalice · 09/11/2018 19:16

Chester Bennington. So much of his music is about the fight to live and has helped me to hold on through some awful times. Hearing he’d chosen to end his life was so upsetting. Imagine having all that talent and life still being too painful to bear.

Heath Ledger too. Robin Williams.

Kate Spade - not really into designers but her work is so happy and cheerful - how could she have been suicidal. Of course I know how and putting on a brave face is common but the jolt in my brain struggles to accept it.

Patroclus · 09/11/2018 19:16

Mark Speight. Liked him as a kid I suppose but didnt love him or anything, it was all just so tragic.

Beaniebeemer · 09/11/2018 19:17

George Micheal - I cried for days after George died.

Micheal Hutchence retrospectively. He was so beautiful and it’s so sad that his daughter was orphaned so young when Paula Yates passed Sad

pugalugs90 · 09/11/2018 19:19

Robin Williams and Amy winehouse. 2 beautiful souls that were so misunderstood

QuitMoaning · 09/11/2018 19:20

Chester Bennington (was listening to Final masquerade on my walk home)
I haven’t cried about him but feel so sad and it does bring home about how indiscriminately mental health can hit. He was so talented and loved and had everything he could possibly want yet he felt suicide was his only option. So tragic.
Same applies to Heath Ledger.

NewLevelsOfTiredness · 09/11/2018 19:22

I've never got it. Celebrity deaths don't get to me. I used to be secretly judgey of people getting upset over their deaths.

And then Rik Mayall died, and suddenly I got it. I can't even really put my finger on why his affected me so much, but it really did.

Autumnchill · 09/11/2018 19:24

Jill Dando. The sheer shock of it.
