This is just snobbery right?

Out of 4 siblings we have
3 homeowners with savings etc
1 in LA housing no savings

CONSTANT remarks about it. Especially how ultimately it means I’m a drain. Because of having no savings or owning a house my care home fees will one day be free because I haven’t provided for my own old age .....
Comments about inheritance tax etc and how it penalises those who had saved to buy etc
I’m fed up of it. It’s snobbery isn’t it ?

Anyway, home ownership isn't everything. On the continent they tend to rent rather than buy. And you've got security if you're in a council property, so is there a problem, really? It's not as though you're renting privately and likely to be evicted. I tend to agree with OP if the sibs are constantly throwing this in her face. (On Judgment Day, St Peter won't care if some people owned their house).

It doesn’t sound like snobbery to me just meanness (that old ‘we have to work hard for all of this why don’t you as well?’tack) and lack of understanding that your situation is just different to theirs. Sorry op. Sounds difficult. Try not to let it touch you too much.

BreconBeBuggered · 06/11/2018 21:59

Perhaps they want to pre-empt you inheriting all your parents' money, since you clearly need it more than they do. Hah. They sound like total pains in the arse, OP.

As it’s really getting to you is there any way it could be because subconsciously you think it of yourself? I don’t mean that to be mean just I’ve had a similar thing recently with people commenting on my career and it’s only recently that I’ve realised that it gets to me so much because actually I kind of agree, but wouldn’t admit it.

HeronLanyon · 06/11/2018 22:27

lollipop - that does happen doesn’t it ? I too am not at all suggesting that’s going here. It’s interesting when you suddenly turn the focus and see a different reality that others perhaps saw also.

Op, if you're happy with your life then crack on mate.

Off topic: @florenceheadache You're a counsellor / therapist, or in training to become one, aren't you?
