Drinking before you knew you were pregnant

I know I’m probably overworrying as my MW said it would be okay (didn’t know the amount though) but just need some further reassurance.

So back in early sep (my birthday) I got VERY drunk. Like blackout drunk. Bottle of amaretto, 4 tequila shots, many vodka and lemonades. You can clearly imagine the very drunken state I was in. However a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant (will have been 3 weeks pregnant at that stage). That’s too early for it to cause any harm isn’t it? I had no clue but now I’m just stressing myself out that something could be wrong. I wasn’t trying and on the pill so obviously it was a big shock.

Have any other people done the same and everything turned out okay? I know I’ve seen people saying they got drunk when pregnant (before they knew) but I’m just worried based on the sheer volume of alcohol I drank that night.

This is probably outing but oh hell.
I have 2 kids and another on the way.
Dc2 and baby on the way both have significant health problems.

Dc1 however is healthy and the day before I found out I was expecting him I had been black out drunk downing shots of black sambuca like it was going out of fashion. I was a state.
He's fine

Don't worry, yes it's not ideal but baby isn't even connected to you at that point, people have done and do alot worse. Try not to worry about it xx

3 weeks pregnant, as in, a week after conception?

It wouldn't have even implanted by then, I wouldn't worry at all.

I spent years ttc, and definitely did not give up alcohol for two weeks every month!

f4yal47 · 02/11/2018 15:14

Thank you! As it’s my first, I’m pretty clueless on how it all works so I was unsure on how much of an impact, if any, it would have so early on. But as I’m the worlds biggest worrier, I just had to seek a bit of reassurance.

Congratulations Grin

PinkHeart5914 · 02/11/2018 15:18

I’ve had 3 dc and drunk as I liked until I got the postitive pregnancy test with each, sod giving up alcohol just in case that would be madness!

Congratulations by the way 🍼

Figgygal · 02/11/2018 15:18

Please do not worry.

I had 8 double vodka red bulls and was absolutely tottled two days before I found out that I was pregnant.

All was absolutely fine 😊

lastqueenofscotland · 02/11/2018 15:54

My DM was about 10-14 days pregnant with me on her wedding day and got utterly rat arsed.
I was healthy and went to a Russell group etc

ThistleAmore · 02/11/2018 15:56

A friend was once reassuring another mutual friend along similar lines and said, 'To be honest, were it not for alcohol, a lot of us probably wouldn't even be here.' Wink

Freddiepurrcury · 02/11/2018 16:06

I had at least two nights out before I found out I was pregnant, with both my kids. When I spoke to my midwife about it she said she had only met two children with FAS and both the mothers were alcoholics who continued to drink heavily during pregnancy. Both my kids are absolutely fine. My mum remembers drinking a bottle of gin at a party just before realising she was pregnant with me! Please don’t worry, your baby will be fine x

With DD I would have fell pregnant with her at the start of December. I didn't find out until the end of jan and had spent most of the Christmas period drinking / drink at parties with friends.

When you don't know you don't know! It's nothing to feel guilty about. I had no idea and not even a guess that I could be.

icebearforpresident · 02/11/2018 16:54

2 weeks after I got back from a 12 night holiday to America with 14 friends I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. I had spent the trip to America drinking my own weight in long island ice tea and downing shots. By rights my now 4 year old should have gills. She is fine!

MadeForThis · 02/11/2018 16:55

The placenta doesn't take over until few weeks later in pregnancy. The baby doesn't get what's in your bloodstream until the placenta takes over.

Tinklewinkle · 02/11/2018 16:59

My DD1 - I was also on the pill and not TTC. Mid January I discovered I was pregnant

I’d had a few big nights out in the run up to Christmas where I had drunk loads, and then completely pissed on NYE.

DD is absolutely fine

Thebluedog · 02/11/2018 17:09

I should t worry, the weekend before I found out I was pregnant I go so drunk on wine and vodka I was sick as hell the next day and could barely string a sentence together. Dd is 10 now and fit as a fiddle with no ill effects from my drunken night.

Gimmeesugar · 02/11/2018 17:10

The night before I found out I was pregnant I drank 2 bottles of wine and some rum. I was 4 weeks and remember being so worried. Don’t be though - 3 weeks is so early it’s not a problem. My girl is fine!

Thebluedog · 02/11/2018 17:10

*. Shouldn’t worry +

Pebblespony · 02/11/2018 17:16

I got extremely hammered two days before I found out I was pregnant. Also smoked a full box of Benson and hedges. DD is fine.

LordPickle · 02/11/2018 17:53

I went on a 10 day all inclusive holiday before I knew I was pregnant and I drank loads of alcohol every day. The day we got back, I did a pregnancy test (we had been ttc for a year so I'd given up hope) and found out I was pregnant. I was very very worried and the midwife said to calm down and just not drink more.

Now I have a healthy, happy 21 month old son.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 02/11/2018 19:09

I got smashed too. And I smoked dope. DD also fine. We were v proud of her GCSE results this summer.

LunaLovesgood · 02/11/2018 19:23

We didn't find out I was pregnant until I was about 8/9 weeks. The week before I'd been on a "shopping" trip with some friends. So drunk we missed the last train home and spent the night throwing up in a bin

DD is nearly 3 now and perfect as can be except the attitude problem

Congratulations
