Drinking before you knew you were pregnant

I know I’m probably overworrying as my MW said it would be okay (didn’t know the amount though) but just need some further reassurance.

So back in early sep (my birthday) I got VERY drunk. Like blackout drunk. Bottle of amaretto, 4 tequila shots, many vodka and lemonades. You can clearly imagine the very drunken state I was in. However a few weeks later I found out I was pregnant (will have been 3 weeks pregnant at that stage). That’s too early for it to cause any harm isn’t it? I had no clue but now I’m just stressing myself out that something could be wrong. I wasn’t trying and on the pill so obviously it was a big shock.

Have any other people done the same and everything turned out okay? I know I’ve seen people saying they got drunk when pregnant (before they knew) but I’m just worried based on the sheer volume of alcohol I drank that night.

Yep, mine was a surprise and I’d been knocking back the wine all weekend a few days before I found out. She’s totally fine.

I fell pregnant unexpectedly just after my 22nd birthday. I went to visit a friend at university. I got incredibly drunk at least 3 times during that week, I was drinking all sorts. I was actually due my period that week and was really pleased that it didn't arrive while I was away having fun! Had no idea I was pregnant. I found out the following week.

Your baby is nourished by the egg yolk until the placenta attaches- which is about 8 weeks! Don’t worry at all

Won't be a problem at all. I read that a lot of alcohol at that stage could increase the probability of an early miscarriage but wouldn't harm a pregnancy that sticks if that makes sense.

Should I add, 5yo DS is the picture of health and currently shouting in my ear!

Twolittlebears · 02/11/2018 19:35

I could have written your post op. My DD is now 4 and thankfully totally fine.

Found out I was pregnant the day after drinking a bottle of vodka and was a smoker until the day I found out. Straightforward text book pregnancy and birth. Pregnancy 2 ended in miscarriage despite no alcohol. Pregnancy 3 ended up with complications towards the end also no alcohol.

I had no idea I was pregnant until I was 10 weeks (assumed it was the start of the menopause as I was 42 & my periods were never regular Grin), I was drinking regularly all that time, no problems.

Op I found out I was expecting when I was 6 weeks completely unexpected. I had been drinking a lot and often.
I was an absolute nervous wreck that I done damage to my baby worried myself sick.
Lovely mumsnetters reassured me a little but was still so worried. That baby is now my beautiful nearly 6 y o dd who is not only a talented dancer, but parents evening last week I was told she’s a year ahead of where she needs to be in maths and reading (doesn’t get it from!).
She’s fine, and so will your baby be. Don’t let the worries spoil this lovely news congrats op

I too found out I was pregnant the day after a massive party and loads of champagne and gin. No harm done to DS.

Oblomov18 · 02/11/2018 20:10

I was totally pissed on my hen night, before later finding out I was pregnant.
Please don't worry OP.
