What kitchen gadgets have you bought, then never used?

For me, it's the once used pasta machine that I was so keen to get my hands on. My dad bought it for me...I made some fancy bow shaped pasta and haven't used it again since (about ten years ago).

Same for the ice cream machine from Lidl last summer. I really wanted it. Made ice cream twice, it was rock hard both times :( Never used it since.

Also have a juicer. Random gift from my dad. Lives in the cupboard of doom. Never been out further than to look at it.

Ooh...annnnnd, I bought a cutter thingy for a whole pound not long ago, to make veg into fancy shapes. That's been in the cupboard of doom since too.

There is probably more tbh.

What about you lot?

Juicer

Food processor

Bread maker

bluechameleon · 01/11/2018 15:35

Ditto pasta maker, used once I think. Also slow cooker. I know everyone loves them and I really should give it a go but it's never come out of the box.

bearhug · 01/11/2018 15:42

Spiraliser

NewBabyNoName · 01/11/2018 15:45

Mandoline

Ragwort · 01/11/2018 15:48

Ice cream maker
Bread maker
Spiralizer

Probably a lot more Blush

SadieContrary · 01/11/2018 15:53

Spiralizer.

Cut my hand on it quite badly the first time I was cleaning it and it's remained unused ever since

Cleanermaidcook · 01/11/2018 15:56

Bread maker
Juicer
Ice cream mark (used twice, such a faff and cheaper just to buy it)

lucysmam · 01/11/2018 16:00

I have a spiralizer lurking somewhere too. Or, at least, I think it's still here. It might already have made it's way to the charity shop up the road I haven't seen it in that long.

I've been clearing out & was wondering whether they'd want the pasta machine, or whether it's destined to sit about on the bottom of the veg rack for another ten years Hmm

I bought a microwave vegetable steamer with good intentions. Think I used it once. I've always had small kitchens so I haven't been able to buy many gadgets, which is probably a good thing!

GemmeFatale · 01/11/2018 16:14

Veg steamer. Bought it as a add on to get free delivery. Immediately got pregnant and went off all veg.

Grater attachment thingy for my mixer. Takes so long to set up it’s easier to use the manual option.

blueskiespls · 01/11/2018 16:14

@bluechameleon you should give the slow cooker a go... could change your life I use mine a lot!

debumere · 01/11/2018 16:17

Deep fat fryer. I had grand ideas but can't really be bothered. Same with a bubble waffle maker. Easier just to go and buy one!

Peanutbutterjar · 01/11/2018 16:19

Bread maker here too. I tried to like it, used it most weeks for about 6 months, but just didn't like the bread. Too crumbly, hole in the middle, couldn't cut it, went mouldy in a day.

CarpeVitam · 01/11/2018 16:23

Spiralizer 🙄

opinionatedfreak · 01/11/2018 16:25

Sugar thermometer.

Ice cream maker doesn't get much use but I like it.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 01/11/2018 16:27

Ha ha I came on here to say pasta maker! Except I didn't buy it, it was given to us by our neighbours who had had it years and never got round to using it. One of them volunteers in a charity shop and I think he got it there. Presumably it had been donated because someone had it hanging around and didn't use it.

We've never used it. One day I will have a lovely mother and son pasta making day but until then (he's only 3 so could be a while) it will probably stay in its box Blush

Staringcoat · 01/11/2018 16:30

Spiraliser (used once and never again)
Ditto pasta machine
Ditto fish & veg steamer thing
Used ice cream maker once and now I can't find it

Heuschrecke · 01/11/2018 16:35

The juicer. Years ago DP was wittering on about all the lovely and different fresh juices he wanted, so I bought him a juicer. Same as the rest of you - it never got out of the box - but, oddly, it's still in the cupboard of doom ... unused!

A plastic lettuce knife from Lakeland (you know you're not supposed to cut lettuce with steel knives, right?). Used once, until I remembered my Mum's instructions to just tear lettuce by hand ... no need for knives of any kind!

UnaOfStormhold · 01/11/2018 16:35

I got a grater/mandoline/chopper thing which I don't use because it's lethal.

I used to use my pasta maker more but it is gathering dust since DS came along. Ditto the juicer.

I bought a dehydrator which I have used a few times but results haven't been brilliant which is a bit discouraging.

On the other hand our ice cream maker is brilliant - it's the type with a built-in freezer and makes fantastic ice cream so it gets used a lot. Breadmaker, airfryer and slow cooker also get a lot of use.

Contemplating treating myself to an instant pot...

Pinkstars2501 · 01/11/2018 16:46

Tassimo coffee maker thing. Pods are not great for the environment, also expensive and not even that nice. Instant coffee is better. It’s lingering in the cupboard waiting for me to donate somewhere but no idea where.

Sugar thermometer.... just why?
Mini cupcake maker. I make cupcakes perfectly well in an oven and they’re the right size.

Veronicat · 01/11/2018 16:49

I always look out for a spiralizer in the charity shops but i never see them. Obviously they are much loved gadgets round my way!

Knittedfairies · 01/11/2018 16:51

I use my bread maker on the dough setting and bake it in the oven - it’s a much better loaf that way.

In answer to the question, I Freecycled an ice cream maker (gifted), a deep fat fryer, mandoline, Parmesan grater thing and a box of useless useful bits and pieces. The salad spinner went too.

Pascha · 01/11/2018 16:54

Popcorn machine. I can never work out nice flavours so I dont bother with it any more. It got used about 3 times.

NameChanger22 · 01/11/2018 16:57

None. I don't buy them. I don't even own a microwave. I do own a blender and a mixer, but I use them all the time. I have debated for many years whether to buy a pasta machine, but I think I can live without it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/11/2018 17:04

Oh yes:
Tassimmo coffee maker , after a while it tastes rank, like there was mould , even though I stripped it back and scrubbed all the bits

Juicer - the effort involved , washing it was a pain and the results underwhelming

I'm swithering about a slow-cooker but I'm not sure I'd use it (I keep imagining that I will but I'm not convinced)
