Healthy but filling breakfast ideas?

I'm trying to lose weight but also improve my mental health as I've been struggling a lot recently, and I know that a good morning routine would be really helpful to me.

I'll be honest - I usually skip breakfast and then end up buying a danish or similar on the way in to work. Blush Sometimes a banana but usually not.

When I've had cereal with milk in the morning it makes my stomach very dodgy shortly afterwards - so I'm ruling that out. Gluten is often a bit of a trigger for me (IBS), so I should probably not have too much bread etc, and the same for too much sugar.

I'm assuming something like eggs would be filling and healthy, but I'm a crap cook with no imagination and I have no idea where to start to be honest! Any ideas of quick but tasty things I can cook with a bit of flavour that will fill me up until lunch?

Can anyone help please?

Overnight oats work for me. You can get gluten free oats too.

I also use coconut milk or oddly add oat milk to them heh.

The other thing is waffles or pancakes - batter prepped in advance, and then they only take five minutes to make. We had these this morning topped with banana sugarfreelondoner.com/almond-butter-waffles-grain-free/

Two eggs and two mashed bananas stirred and poured into a pan make sweet lovely pancakes

I have ibs and eating breakfast either destroys my intestines, or leaves me ravenous an hour later. I usually have some nuts or low calorie crisps if I can’t wait till later in the day.

Coconut milk (in a carton by Alpro) is gorgeous, even in tea.

If you are OK with eggs, a microwave omelette mould is fab. I keep mine at work (no stove) and just take in the eggs plus whatever filling and make it there.

I also do overnight oats, in the small salsa jars from Aldi. 40g oats, frozen fruit, shake of sugar / sweetener and then at least 3 good tablespoonfuls of Greek yogurt. No mixing. In the fridge and they'll keep for 4 days happily. Stir and eat, or warm gently in the microwave just to take the chill off.

My go to filling breakfasts are:

Porridge mixed with greek yoghurt / skyr / quark, fruit and sometimes seeds / nuts topping.

Egg on seeded / brown / wholemeal toast, make sure there's butter on the toast too. You can add whatever you like to this - cheese, ham, spinach, mushrooms etc...

Both perfect combination of fats, carbs & protein. The egg on toast particularly keeps me full until 2/3pm.

I've tried weetabix mushed up in hot water & yoghurt today, I'll see how it goes.

If you are ok with eggs, how about scrambled eggs, or an omelette, you can add mushroom, bacon or whatever you like.
Grilled tomatoes on toast, although I love tinned tomato on toast.
I like a breakfast wrap from my local Wetherspoons pub on Saturdays, and have been known to make a wrap with fried egg, hash brown, mushrooms and a veggie sausage.
A bowl of porridge, it’s quick and easy if you cook it in the microwave, add fruit of your choice, make it with almond milk if you can’t digest cows milk.
Peanut butter on toast.
Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, buy the salmon bits and it’s not expensive.
Salmon and scrambled eggs, quick and easy.
My all time winter favourite breakfast is weetabix with plenty of hot milk, again, you can buy a dairy free milk, but this is so filling, warming and satisfying.
How would you feel about making a tray of flapjacks, again it’s oats, so very healthy, and easy to grab on the mornings you are short of time.
Sorry if I’ve not come up with anything original.

I alao have overnight oats with natural fat free yoghurt though(im on a diet) i put 40 grams of oats in a bowl , as much yoghurt as i want and frozen fruit and leave overnighr i layer it not mix it , you could alao try baked oats , i mix 49 grams of oats again natural fat free yoghurt an egg and honey to taste mix it in a bowl and then bake in a bakinf tin, oe ramekin etc for 35 minutes

Oh my goodness why have I never thought of doing porridge in the slow cooker!! Genius! I assume you do that on low for 8ish hours? Do you use the usual proportions, I do 1 cup porridge to 3 cups water/milk if making on the hob

You can do overnight oats with apple juice as well.

We like 'Spegs' here. Special Eggs. Chopped and fried onion, peppers and some kind of meat... chorizo, ham, sausage etc with an egg or two scrambled in once it's all cooked/soft.
You fry make up some filling in advance and keep it in the fridge for a few days, so you only need to warm through and add the egg - stove or microwave.

Spanish omelette is nice too, with potato and onion. Again, you can prep and portion in advance and eat cold or on the go.

I think peanut butter is the wrong choice if your wanting to loose weight. Its really, really fattening. If you having that you might as well have a mars bar instead.
I'd say porridge, get the jumbo oats as they are nicer and made with either almond milk/soy milk or normal milk and some water.
Also either an omelette or scrambled eggs with some fruit or 1 piece of toast wholemeal.
I knew someone who lost a lot of weight and used to have mackerel for breakfast! A bit far out for me that one.

When I have successfully dieted (bad patch at the mo) I always had the same thing for breakfast:
One slice of GF toast with a smear of marmite, poached egg. Every day. Complex carbs, protein, filling. Good until lunch without feeling stuffed. Less than 5 mins to prepare.

I'm always a bit puzzled why we have rules about what you can and ccan't eat for breakfast.

I don't tolerate milk well so I don't have cereal.

I tend to either have very unhealthy snacks or if I'm working I go for the type of things you get in Holland or Germany.

So ham(s) boiled ha is low fat, quite low in calories but filling. Hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, cheese, fruit and bread.

I sometimes make a 'muffin' of eggs, ham and cheese mixed and put in a muffin tray for 10-15 mins.

I have a relative who also doesn't do milk, she makes a pot of kegeree and freezes it in individual portions, she puts them one i the miocrowave each morning.

Kippers are easy, just boil a kettle and pour ofver the kippers in the bag, leave for a few mins, open the bag and hot filling breakfast.

If I'm really in the mood and not in a rush then nasi goreng, it's basically the Inonesian version of bubble and squeek, rice and leftovers fried in a wok.

Soup is nice for breakfast, something like lentil is really filling & nice on a horrible cold morning! I have supernoodles made up with more water to make them soupier quite often too

There are various non diary milks - some are based upon soya, others upon nut extacts. All work well for porridge / overnight oats. I can recommend Hazelnut and Coconut for that.

Alternatively, mushrooms on (GF?) toast - fry them in a little olive oil with oregano, thyme, and worcs sauce (+cream and or brandy if you're so inclined)

Scrambled eggs done quickly in a bowl in the microwave, and smoked mackerel so there's no cooking required. Slice or two of good grainy bread.

Nothing else fills me up till lunch, but that does.

You could have apple porridge - oats with a grated Bramley apple, cinnamon and a bit of water, almond or oat milk to soften the oats if you can't have dairy. (Not too much liquid as the apples release juice when they cook ) I had that this morning - just mix them together and microwave for about 2-3 mins, stir and leave to cool.

Beans on gluten free toast

Scrambled egg

Bacon with fried tomatoes

If you can eat it, Greek yoghurt with a spoonful of nut muesli stirred in with some frozen berries or chopped fresh fruit

grilled fish fingers or sausages with tomatoes

smoked salmon and scrambled eggs

Egg florentine - a poached egg on steamed spinach.

Protein pancakes: beaten egg, mashed banana and a heaped tablespoon of ground almonds with some drops of vanilla essence, whisked into a batter then fried in butter.
