Leicester City helicopter crash

It doesn’t look good does it?

Really hope that things are not as bad as it seems but the fact the police are not saying anything about survivors being taken to hospital speaks volumes.

Where did you see that @Shriekingbanshee ?

PickAChew · 28/10/2018 00:23

Bloody hell, that fireball.

Blankscreen · 28/10/2018 00:23

I hope no one on the ground was hurt either.

siakcaci · 28/10/2018 00:31

Karren Brady tweeted.

cheesemongery · 28/10/2018 00:38

Vice-chairman who I assume was a family member not on board, but the owner was on board and I can only assume sadly deceased. Terrible.

VanGoghsDog · 28/10/2018 00:40

V-C is his son.

AlexanderHamilton · 28/10/2018 00:40

I think the vice chairman is the chairman’s son.

How awful, not watching tv so missed this. Was anyone in the staff car park at the time? I really hope not. It’s terrible for all involved and their families.

cheesemongery · 28/10/2018 00:48

Sorry I should have added that my reply was in response to the comment on page 2 that the chairman wasn't there tonight.

Hence saying that VC - his son (thank you) was not in attendance.

KenAdams · 28/10/2018 00:59

The situation could have been so much worse if it had happened a split second later.

If you're looking at the stadium head on, to your left is one of the busiest junctions in the city, to the left is a hotel and behind you is the hospital. The helicopter crashed in behind the stadium I believe which has a river and an industrial park near it so the likelihood of ground casualties is as minimal as it could have been thank goodness. I'm so so sad for the owner though. He is part of the fabric of the city Sad

VanGoghsDog · 28/10/2018 01:05

There is a comment by a pundit who was there saying the chairman spoke to him before the match. So he was there. And he usually leaves in the helicopter. Though it's not been confirmed, the fact they have confirmed his son and one other person were not in the helicopter, I think the only logical assumption is that the chairman was in it.
As were crew and maybe a couple of other oeoole.

Shriekingbanshee · 28/10/2018 01:12

Yes, vc.not there, telegraph article was source and the west ham club all left was Karen brady source.

Shriekingbanshee · 28/10/2018 01:14

So sad that it doesn't sound at all hopeful with the length of time taken to bring flames under control.

Letsgetreadytorumba · 28/10/2018 01:31

I’d read it was the staff carpark it crashed in to- I hope staff weren’t making their way to cars by that point or had already left. Really awful.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 28/10/2018 01:35

According to the BBC, it was the staff car park Lets. There's an eyewitness report that a first team player ran out towards the car park, presumably when he heard the crash. There's also some particularly upsetting speculation about who was on the helicopter from the BBC too. I wish they wouldn't do this, it's sick.

dogandrunning · 28/10/2018 07:33

You're right KenAdams and I was thinking the same

VanillaSugary · 28/10/2018 07:48

The BBC are so hypocritical. This morning's headline reads that the owner was on board, they got the information from a source close to the family and then the news report goes on to say that the Chief if Fire is asking people not to speculate "think of the families"....

Bestseller · 28/10/2018 07:57

I think they're having to wait to make a statement because they genuinely don't know or haven't been about to contact families. I really hope not, but an hour after the game, the staff carpark.... I've seen one Twitter appeal for someone who was at the site and hasn't been heard from since. Although there are some very odd people on Twitter.

The BBC live news has been speculating about a possible passenger (not the owner). That's really poor.

Why does it always happen to the good guys? Of all the crooks there are in football, these seem like decent people

AllSouls · 28/10/2018 08:03

From the footage, it looks as if it came down on the border of the staff area of the car park (on the opposite side to the players’ and senior staff car park by the main reception entrance) and the part where people who’d been at the game on hospitality packages park — and they would have been leaving at about the time of the crash, so maybe ground casualties, too. Some delays will have been because of contacting the very large (and complicated) family in Thailand.

Yes, it could have been far worse if the chairman’s helicopter didn’t always have to wait till at least an hour after the game to fly in for pick-up (for safety reasons, to allow fans to be clear of the area — it waits at the training ground during the game and flies in once summoned), but it’s still horrible.

AlexanderHamilton · 28/10/2018 08:04

I saw one such appeal last night but the missing person has since been found/made contact.

I’d have (hopefully ) thought that an hour after the game was a little early still for hospitality people to be leaving.

My dad usually leaves his teams ground about 90 mins after the game but his club provide post game pies, debrief and MOTM presentation.

Bringing it to a more personal level, it will be a sad day in all the schools, colleges and offices tomorrow. The Club affects many, many people and not just in Leicester city itself.

Very, very, very sad.

ExFury · 28/10/2018 08:41

Jake Humphrey looked like he was really struggling on the coverage last night.

It must be horrid to have to try and report on that sort of thing.

Just awful.

ClashCityRocker · 28/10/2018 08:42

Very sad news indeed.

Shocked that police had to be used to tell people to stop filming it on their mobile phones. It's potentially (and sadly in this case, very highly probably) someone dying in there, why the hell would you be filming it?

AlexaShutUp · 28/10/2018 08:44

So shocked by what has happened. A very sad day for Leicester and for those affected in Thailand. My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who were involved.
