Where do I find really good thin ginger biscuits

About 5 years ago I bought a tin of ginger biscuits from the local greengrocer who used to sell stolen seconds/excess stock. I wanted the tin but fell in love with the biscuits. They were German or scandinavian (can't remember) and they were so so good - thin, light, buttery, crispy and really gingery with a hint of spice. Proper grown up biscuits. Sold for a pittance as they were 'forrin' I went back for more the following week but they were gone. I craved them when I was pregnant but could only find inch thick solid gingernuts which were Not Right when I wanted something to nibble to fend off the nausea.

Anyone know where I can find such biscuit nirvana? I think IKEA sell similar style biscuits but not sure they do ginger ones (just spice ones which are lovely but I want ginger!) Plus we live nowhere near IKEA and I don't want to go just for biscuits.

Ahh I was going to say ikea before I got to the end of your post, they definitely do ginger though in huge boxes

Heuschrecke · 25/10/2018 16:02

Daft question. But do you still have the tin the biscuits came in, which might give you a clue?!

UrsulaPandress · 25/10/2018 16:05

Ikea Ginger thins are lush.

I just got these for the first time this week
They are so good

WhatHaveIFound · 25/10/2018 16:07

Ocado Ginger Snaps in a tin?

shouldidoitspoilt · 25/10/2018 16:09

The ones I got are like £1.50 instead of £7
Ocado is always sold out of the ones in the tin btw

Magicstar1 · 25/10/2018 16:17

First thing I thought was Ikea too. They do them at this time of year - a tin of lovely thin ginger biscuits. There are loads in it.

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 25/10/2018 16:21

That's the sort of thing, should! Do Waitrose sell stuff like that? I don't go there often but for this I could make an exception. No plans on starting up an Ocado shop any time soon.

This is the original tin, nothing fancy but it's a good size. Holds cereal bars etc now.

It's not OTT to drive 30 miles and fight through the madness that is IKEA just to buy a tin of biscuits is it? I could get them for everyone for Christmas couldn't I? That would seem less crazy.

The ikea ones are called pepperanken or something so must be the same as the ones from your tin. They are thin gingers with a hint of clove.

SinkGirl · 25/10/2018 16:28

Yes. Ikea do ginger ones.

They also do ginger and almond ones. I know this because I bought them by mistake and didn’t realise until I got home that I couldn’t eat them (allergy). I almost cried.

Haven't had them in ages but they used to be absolutely delicious - thin and gingery. Might have to check whether they're still as good...

3out · 25/10/2018 16:30

Was just about to say - Anna biscuits! So delicious

UnaOfStormhold · 25/10/2018 16:31

Sorry, wrong link: www.scandikitchen.co.uk/product/annas-pepparkakor-original-300g-2/ has them in stock.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 25/10/2018 16:32

Lidl had Christmas stuff in when I was there last week. Not sure if they had ginger biscuits but worth a look if you’re near one?

DuggeesWooOOooggle · 25/10/2018 16:35

I found some of those Anna's ones in a little deli recently and thought I'd struck gold but they weren't nearly gingery enough. They had the right thinness/crunchiness though and were very good but just not quite right.

gaggiagirl I think pepperkaker or variants thereof is like the general term for gingery spicy biscuits in Denmark/Sweden etc. They probably weep (or laugh) at our rock hard disks that can withstand multiple tea dunks.

Looks like it's a trip to IKEA then. Shudder.

In Ikea the food is usually near the exit so you could try sneaking in there rather than having to go through the rest of it!

I drove past a van recently that was advertising that they deliver and assemble Ikea furniture. The tag line was “Save your marriage!” Grin

BaronRottsSoundOfGraves · 25/10/2018 17:03

Take whenever me and dh go Ikea I feel like knocking him into the middle of next century. We go maybe once every 2-3 years as I cannot bear the tutting and stony faced looks if I dare to spend more than 30 seconds pondering on a certain item. Jesus I can feel my blood pressure rising as I type. I need a coffee table and he has said we will go on his next day off from work. I would go alone but can't afford to drive yet.

shouldidoitspoilt · 25/10/2018 17:25

Are you pregnant OP? If you are then no it's not mad!! Drive 500 when you want something
Waitrose will sell

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 25/10/2018 17:26

@BaronRottsSoundOfGraves leave him in the cafe and he can meet you when done!

Smellyrose · 25/10/2018 17:49

Thanks, OP, now I need to go to Ikea to stock up on biscuits (goodbye diet!)

shouldidoitspoilt · 25/10/2018 18:53

Actually @BaronRottsSoundOfGraves

No ask him to get the biscuits and then go to the cafe and wait

Stephisaur · 25/10/2018 18:59

They’re called pepparkarkor (check the spelling)

I get the Costco ones, but most places will do them at this time of year. Also known as swedish ginger thins :)
