SoYouBetterRun · 29/10/2018 04:55

Said hello to Nigel Mansell on a golf course in Spain. Next table in restaurant to Laurence Llewelyn Bowen. Saw Annette Crosbie in Harrods. Also related through marriage to a famous british actress but not likely to meet her, never mind.

ToesInWater · 29/10/2018 05:01

I used to go clubbing with the guys from U2. Met various "rock stars" of their era. Also worked in a theatre so met a lot of people who were/went on to be famous. All of them friendly, polite, nice people.

Pericombobulations · 29/10/2018 08:20

Richard Hammond went into a beach shop in front of me. Recognised his voice as I could initially only only see the back of his head. Noticed one thing in that he was the same height as me, his bio states 5'7" - he sure isn't that tall.

We met him again as he walked with his kids back from the loos to the beach. Seemed to be totally into them.

Have also met a few three day eventers but most people don't follow that sport so don't know if it's worth naming names

candlefloozy · 29/10/2018 08:21

Met paul Hollywood

Pericombobulations · 29/10/2018 08:32

Also met and hugged Ed Byrne who is very thin, made a joke at how fast I legged it when he agreed to have a photo with him.

littleskittle · 29/10/2018 08:43

I love this thread, has cheered me up as I sit on train on my commute with a nasty cold. Michael Winner story is fab. Mine are more seeing rather than meetings as too shy to say hello to people but...

Steve Buscemi (from Reservoir Dogs) - was waitress to him, his wife and son at a hotel in the Grand Canyon in 1998. I wouldn't have known he was famous if others hadn't pointed it out

Gwyneth Paltrow doing a photo shoot in the gardens of my uni college as I was sat there having lunch, surrounded by body guards and looking v tall (maybe 2004)

Gwen Stefani in hotel lobby in Shepard's Bush surrounded by her harajuku girls (2005)

Charlotte Church was sat at next table in a nightclub in Cardiff (maybe 2004)

Gok Wan sat with friendS in a beer garden in London a couple of years ago

Oh and not exactly a celeb spot but once I arrived at my uni college (lovely old building) for a tutorial and it had been transformed into Hogwarts and was full of witches and wizards. That was quite exciting tho didn't see the main 3 stars - was for the 2nd or 3rd film I think

littleskittle · 29/10/2018 08:45

Oh forgot my fave / most recent. Boxing Day 2014 I physically banged into someone at Belfast City airport. Looked up to apologise and realised it was Jamie Dornan! He was with wife and toddler and I didn't want to impose but as It's a small quiet airport I observed them wondering around and teenage girls losing their shit when they realised who they'd just seen!

TheHulksPurplePanties · 29/10/2018 09:00

In 2006 I was transiting through Dallas/Fort Worth airport on my way to the UK. I was sitting at the gate, re-reading my copy of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.

I was thoroughly engrossed when I heard a familiar voice with a British accent speaking across from me. I was wondering who it could possibly be, because I didn't know many English people at the time, so I looked up.

The first thing I noticed were the clothes. They were impeccable and clearly expensive, especially the purple/silvery velvet type jacket thing he was wearing.

Then I saw the eyes. I have never seen eyes that blue in my entire life.

Then I took in the whole picture and thought "Holy fucking shit I'm sitting across from Jude Law."

He was so handsome, and also clearly having a difficult phone conversation with someone because he seemed very pissed off.

He looked up and looked at me, who was staring at him like a crazy person, then he looked at my book and his face went from pissed to a smile and he gave me a nod (at the book more than me) and a wink, as if to say "Nice book choice." Then he got up and walked toward somewhere quieter to continue his phone call.

Now, that was a great story in 2006, but now, in 2018 with Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them 2 coming out with Jude Law as Dumbledore, it is an awesome story.

Dumbledore liked my book choice.

I saw Gary Lineker at the local Tesco garage. He looked so handsome and phwoar but better in real life. He was beautifully dressed. I thought he was very clever and had an excellent looking into the middle distance with no eye contact thing going.

Was walking in Richmond park with mum and dad when Princess Margaret passed us in her car. She leaned forward and gave a wave. We waved back then shrugged wondering who she was and why she was waving.

BagelGoesWalking · 29/10/2018 13:43

Met Sophie, Duchess of Wessex a couple of times (when working for a charity).

Shook Bruce Springsteen's band and had pic taken at book signing for his autobiography.

Antony Valentine, actor or days gone by, lived down our road when I was a child (mid or late 70s). Was collecting for charity and he was very grumpy and gave me about 10p.

Stood behind Anne Marie Duff on a London tube escalator. 😬

BagelGoesWalking · 29/10/2018 13:53

ShatnersWig that is the most lovely story. Truly wonderful, what a nice man. I've heard tales of his generosity before.

Crochet and Piglet - would love to meet Derek Jacobi or Rupert Everett.

foxyfemke · 29/10/2018 14:02

Quite a few.

I went clubbing with Jamie Cullum a few times, many years ago, just as he was getting successful. Nice guy. We sometimes see each other at one of his gigs and we'll have a chat.

Through various jobs, I have met quite a few actors, musicians and royals.

BagelGoesWalking · 29/10/2018 14:10

Just remembered I've chatted to Penelope Keith (and sat next to her at the theatre) as she was Patron of the charity I used to work for.

Walked past Alan Little and Rita Chakrabarti near the BBC in London.

Would love to meet Anthony Stewart Head. He seems such a nice guy, supports Battersea and animal charities. I think his wife is an expert in canine behaviour (or something similar).

thighofrelief · 29/10/2018 15:57

Saw Caroline Quentin at the pizza express in Richmond. She was smoking and with what i think was her mum. When she saw that i had recognised her she gave me a hard stare, i had no plans to approach anyway.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 29/10/2018 16:08

Was in a pub in Rome watching a rugby game and a random Irish bloke asked if he could sit on the spare chair at my table and we got chatting about the match. He looked familiar but I could not put my finger on who he was. Turned out he was Fergal Keane the BBC correspondent and we chatted long after the game finished. Fascinating man.

Used to play decent grade rugby so have met loads of internationals.

Bizarrely ended up in a poker game with Ralph Fiennes once.

BagelGoesWalking · 29/10/2018 17:10

"Bizarrely ended up in a poker game with Ralph Fiennes once."

Now, come on, details pleeeeease.

0lgaDaPolga · 29/10/2018 20:05

I sold a book to Rick Astley. It didn’t click who he was until afterwards, which is probably a good thing or I may have burst into a chorus of ‘never gonna give you up’

TheWiseWomansFear · 29/10/2018 20:47

I've met Kaz from love island...

TheWiseWomansFear · 29/10/2018 20:47

Oh, and James May when he was wandering around my Uni campus 😂

TheWiseWomansFear · 29/10/2018 20:48

Oh! And I've interviewed Joanna Konta!

DwangelaForever · 29/10/2018 21:30

Ive served Rory Mcilroy and Gary Lightbody (from snow patrol) when working in house of Fraser (Belfast). Also stood close to Matt Smith and Jon Richardson at same job. Never met anyone else

TroysMammy · 29/10/2018 22:11

Syd Little went into a newsagents as I was coming out.
Rhys Ifans gave me a smile which said "I know you know who I am" as I smiled back and walked on.
Walked past Catherine Zeta Jones in Mumbles. This was before she married Michael Douglas.
Was on the same bus as Johnny Morris in London 1983. I loved Animal Magic as a child and I want the theme tune played at my funeral Grin.

SandyY2K · 29/10/2018 22:28
