Lots of Olympic athletes through work.

thefishwhocouldwish · 27/10/2018 07:51

I used to teach Colin Firth's eldest son. I hope he's a nicer adult now than he was a 4 year old.

FriedEggs1 · 27/10/2018 07:52

swimmerforlife · 27/10/2018 07:58

I saw Sam Neil in a shop in rural New Zealand...

The only celebrity I have spoken briefly to is Michael Palin - it was in the National Gallery when I worked there and he was friendly.

Celebrities I can remember seeing / walking past are:

Emma Thompson twice - she lives not too far from me,

Eddie Izzard twice (I was on the same train as him and on a march - my friend had her photo taken with him),

the Beckhams and Tom Cruise having dinner together and with some other friends in the same hotel restaurant that I was in (having a freebie meal and stay over I hasten to add - my sister used to do hotel reviews and could sometimes invite people),

and randomly and strangely - when I was 21 I was in New York for the first time ever and only for a couple of days - on my own. I was walking down a nondescript street and coming the other way was Gene Wilder - unmistakably him though I sometimes question myself.

There have probably been other people but I can’t remember.

Ooh yes - at a farmer’s market I once briefly spoke to Ben Miles about a poster of a dinosaur I was holding Grin. I think it might have been him walking incognito (hat and glasses) around my local Sainsbury’s once, but maybe I am wrong.

I also walked past Thandie Newton once and she kind of smiled in my direction, and saw the lady from the Clothes Show with the grey streak in her hair in my area - I think she lives close - Caryn Franklin. My sister was also in the same gardening group as her for a bit.

Others will pop into my head as soon as I post this!

When I lived in Brussels I met lots of people who were well known there but not exactly celebs. People like Nick Clegg, Boris and his sister, Neil and Glynis Kinnock, and the Pogues including Shane McGowan at the airport!

IndigoSpritz · 27/10/2018 11:33

I have exchanged brief pleasantries with Roger Daltrey and Paul McCartney. Also met Jools Holland, Patrick Moore and The Eagles. And John Major during the 1997 GE campaign.

IndigoSpritz · 27/10/2018 11:34

Off topic but I would like to meet David Gilmour and Bruce Dickinson. They both seem like proper gentlemen.

BonnieF · 27/10/2018 11:48

Try going for a walk along the seafront in Hove. You might be surprised who you bump into...Wink

tiredacademic · 27/10/2018 11:50

My mum sort of met the archbishop of York a few years ago. He was on the same train—he’d gone to the toilet but not locked it. So my mum opened the door to see him sat on the toilet. Holy shit 😂

IndigoSpritz · 27/10/2018 12:09

I believe DG has a home and a studio on the Sussex coast. A bit far to travel from Yorkshire though !

tccat · 27/10/2018 13:50

Heatherjayne1972 · 27/10/2018 15:34

I spotted mr tumble aka Justin in Reading train station
Think he was in panto there

MrsWembley · 27/10/2018 16:19

Powerless, he was lovely and not at all stuck up. He told a few stories but was just generally part of the conversation with some of the crew rather than the big I Am.

theluckiest · 27/10/2018 16:21

DHs friend touched Alan Rickman in a supermarket. He brushed past him as he was too shy to say anything...

MaureenMLove · 27/10/2018 16:37

Sir Ian Mckellen came to our school at least 3 times over the past 6 or 7 years. He was a close friend of our drama teacher and we used to roll out the red carpet for him every couple of years. Really, really nice fella. Remembered everyone he'd met on a previous occasion and recalled what we'd done.

Sadly, the drama teacher has left now, so no contact with Sir Ian.

I have also met Sir Steve Redgrave. That was with 2 other MNers actually. Our kids had their picture taken with him.

Only famous people with knighthoods are worthy of my company in my world!

FaithInfinity · 27/10/2018 17:33

DH met Alan Rickman (he biggest claim to fame!). He said all these kids around him were shouting ‘Snape! Snape!’ but he went up to Alan and said ‘Loved you in Die Hard!’ Grin

maddjess · 28/10/2018 20:06

Ha Roy chubby brown signed my boobs. Not my proudest moment!!

maddjess · 28/10/2018 20:08

letsdolunch321 · 28/10/2018 20:19

Rod Stewart- he was having a ciggy & beer in a local pub in the area. Had a chat & a picture
David Seaman at the Ideal Home Exhib

thighofrelief · 29/10/2018 02:59

I shagged someone who shagged Elizabeth Hurleys sister. Does that count?

Anneka Rice in the post office, Richard E Grant in WH Smiths and Barclays. Robin Cook on the tube, he gave me evils for some reason. Got David Souls autograph, i was very pissed. Phil Collins in Stanley market in Hong Kong. Jerry Hall at Richmond theatre. I see Trevor MacDonald all the time in the street, he's very gracious. My friend massages Duffy.

brizzledrizzle · 29/10/2018 03:28

I sat behind prunella scales and her husband at the theatre.
