Have been wheat-free/low carb for what seems like an eternity for medical reasons...looks like that is soon to end! I’ve really missed proper sandwiches. What can I have for my first sandwich in five years?

So far thinking maybe Christmas dinner sandwich (turkey, bacon, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayonnaise) or ham (ham, butter, white bread) or meatball sub.

This might bee a week of sandwiches tif..any other suggestions?

I stopped eating bread as it doesn’t agree with me, when I try to eat it now I don’t like it.

You might find you’ve gone off it...

mumsastudent · 21/10/2018 18:11

croissants

Brie and tomato baguette!! With some sort of spicy crisps ( we like the lime chutney sensation poppadums) as the creaminess of the sandwich is lovely with spicy crisps!

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 21/10/2018 18:14

Tuna, mayonnaise, red onion and tomato

breastfeedingclownfish · 21/10/2018 18:16

Really good bacon, grilled well, good quality white bread, lots of butter. Brown sauce optional.

Also good bread toasted, buttered and spread wih marmite.

If I were you, I'd go specifically to find the best bread ever. Or start baking it.

I'm hungry now.

My favourite sandwich is something really simple but my OH actually loves it even though he is meat man...
Butter
Bread
Lettuce
Grated Cheese
Spring onions
Tomato thinly sliced
sprinkle of salt
salad cream

crisps on the side

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 18:19

Mmm, favourite bread ever was a rosemary focaccia from little bakery round the corner from old flat Breatfeeding. Maybe split, filled with nice salami, some blue cheese, grilled peppers.

I used to love the M&S prawn mayo in oatmeal. With an Apple & mango juice. Both apples and mangoes have also been verboten.

Coronation chicken on a crusty Italian roll with salad.

Salami and jarlsberg toasted.

Chicken club.

Chorizo, feta, houmous

Scrambled egg,and smoked salmon.

Avocado with mint and yogurt dressing in a toasted pitta.

This is going to take me a while.

There was a similar thread a few months ago with lots of great suggestions.

My absolute favourite is brie, chorizo and chilli jam.

Don't forget some decent bread too!

sossages · 21/10/2018 18:25

I'm sure M&S still do that carrot chutney sandwich. I always swear at it when there's about a million of those horrible things left and no cheese and celery (which incidentally is my recommendation).

There are also loads of gorgeous sandwiches in Pret with avocados and tapenade and all that lovely stuff at the moment, if there's one near you.

Thirdly nothing beats a slightly runny fried egg sandwich on a Sunday morning.

Dollymixture22 · 21/10/2018 18:26

Turkey Brie and cranberry. On very white bread. With real butter.

Ilikeknitting · 21/10/2018 18:38

Awful white sliced factory bread, the worst low fat spread, processed cheese and plastic ham. No pickle, no salad. If you can’t be arsed to think of what you want, why should I bother?
Honestly I do wonder at some of the questions on mumsnet. Are you seriously incapable of thinking of what sandwich you’ve missed?

Babybearsporij · 21/10/2018 18:39

Ham, cheese, lettuce, branston on granary bread.

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 18:41

Run along and eat your shit sandwich alone Ilikeknitting. Won’t be the first one you choke down on your tod, won’t be the last. Don’t forget the side of sour grapes.

When I worked in M&S the bestseller was their prawn mayo.
A nice warm BLT is always good.
Proper cheese (extra mature cheddar or a double gloucester) with home-grown really tasty tomato on home made half brown half white roll. Salad cream if you like it.
Sausage and red sauce.
Turkey, stuffing and cranberry on 26th dec. Toasted in the George Foreman.

My vote would be for fried mushroom and grilled cheddar on buttered hot toast with brown sauce. Delicious.

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 19:49

Ooh. Bacon, mushrooms and melty cheese. I think Caffe Nero used to do one of those.

OP posts:
Stormwhale · 21/10/2018 19:50

For me it would have to be a bacon, brie and cranberry panini. Oh yes.

Stormwhale · 21/10/2018 20:01

Oh and I can't believe I forgot my ultimate favourite.

Crusty bread, Tesco hot cooked sausages and coleslaw. So so good.

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 20:06

I did used to like ham, cheese and coleslaw Storm

That;s interesting BlueTrews the prawn mayo was always an old faithful.

Mashed banana and brown sugar in toasted whole meal bread.

MsMamaNature · 21/10/2018 20:21

Cheese and coleslaw - the stronger and smellier the cheddar the better!
