Have been wheat-free/low carb for what seems like an eternity for medical reasons...looks like that is soon to end! I’ve really missed proper sandwiches. What can I have for my first sandwich in five years?

So far thinking maybe Christmas dinner sandwich (turkey, bacon, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayonnaise) or ham (ham, butter, white bread) or meatball sub.

This might bee a week of sandwiches tif..any other suggestions?

Brie and cranberry.
Falafel and hummus.
Grated cheddar and coleslaw.
Peanut butter and marmite (not to everyone's taste!).

And my favourite: fried egg sandwich.

Sourdough bread with a nice brie with a few walnuts and my favourite fig preserve. Or roast beef and melted Yorkshire Blue.

I had a sourdough sandwich with a nice brie type thing I can't remember the name of earlier with some home baked ham. Yum.

I love sandwiches!

Bluntness100 · 21/10/2018 17:39

Hmmm. I'm low carb,,for weight management, and when I fall off the wagon I never find a sandwich that satisfying, it just bags me up really.

Toast on the other hand,,,always yum. 🤣

If I was to suggest one though it would be avocado, mozzarella, grilled peppers with a drizzle of olive oil on granary bread.

Cheese and salami

Orlandointhewilderness · 21/10/2018 17:39

ohhh cheese and tomato. or GOOD bacon!

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 17:41

Mmm. Pastrami bagel.

I used to enjoy a felafel and avocado roll SadEyed. With a wee drizzle of honey, some herbs and some salt flakes.

Cafe round the corner from my old work used to do a toasted sauna sage bagel. I might need to go back.

The corner shop did minty lamb baguettes.

Toast with decent yellow farmhouse butter - not that mass produced Anchor type crap - plus marmite

Toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese smoked salmon dill lemon and black pepper

Crispy bacon red onion or shallot nature cheddar and ketchup in a seedy bap

Or I love M & S cheese and celery Grin

DwangelaForever · 21/10/2018 17:48

Chicken Bacon and Brie toasted 🤤 actually might get one myself as I haven't had Brie since before I was pregnant and DS is nearly 5 weeks!!

moofolk · 21/10/2018 17:48

Keep it simple. Bacon. Maybe bacon and fried egg with brown sauce.

thismeansnothing · 21/10/2018 17:50

Jam buttie on squidgy white sliced bread

Crispy bacon, brown sauce, fried egg and butter on squidgy white sliced bread

Prawn cocktail Seabrook's on white bread

Fish fingers on white

Roast a chicken and have on granary, salted butter, bit of extra salt on the chicken, lettuce, chutney and a bit of gravy

Then I'd bob m&s and grab an Xmas butty

Followed by meat feast sub on Italian herbs and cheese with cucumber pepper onion pickle and jalapenos and ranch sauce from subway

Then my week is complete 😁

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 17:50

Go for it Dwangela, congratulations.

M and s turkey feast, coronation chicken,
Bacon and avocado, ham and mustard mayo

YearOfYouRemember · 21/10/2018 17:51

Marks and Spencer's haven't done the Wensleydale and chutney sandwich for years. They need to bring it back though actually, I'll make my own!

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 17:52

I did used to love a roast chicken sandwich thismeans. On the seedy round loaf from markies. Just butter and leftover roast chicken, bit of that jelly from the bottom of the dish.

Crumpets. Crumpets and butter. Or Welsh Rarebit crumpets.

tillytrotter1 · 21/10/2018 17:53

From the bottom, good granary bread, unsalted butter, Philadelphia, sliced ripe strawberries, crushed black pepper, drizzle of balsamic, bliss! Crushed pepper is essential not the ground dust.

Sourdough is less glutenous than other breads as the fermenting process takes longer or something so might be a better first step to reintroducing it to your diet?

I'd have grilled halloumi with rocket and sweet chilli sauce 😋

StrangeLookingParasite · 21/10/2018 17:54

Ham and chesse toastie with good thick ham and decent cheese.

Oh god I salivated when I read that.
Bit sad really, as my wheat intolerance seems to stepping up its game, and I really should stop with the bread completely. :(

mumsastudent · 21/10/2018 17:54

sigh :( I would like something really simple good quality chunky marmalade on toast with butter (wistfully dreams...) scones - ciabatta - fresh crusty bread with poppy seeds still warm with butter -

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 17:55

I used to like to add crushed black pepper to melted white chocolate tilly. Cuts the sweetness.

Ham and cheese baguette with sliced ripe tomatoes and black pepper mayonnaise.

TheSandwichFairy · 21/10/2018 17:56

Fried egg, chunky sausages, black pudding. That’s the Sunday morning sorted.

OP posts:
Sforsh49 · 21/10/2018 18:02

Cheese, (preferably Lancashire) red onion and salad cream on a whole meal or seeded roll.
Bacon and black pudding (this was my breakfast today!)
Proper butchers sausages and plenty of butter on the roll

DaffydownClock · 21/10/2018 18:04

Sourdough bread or ciabatta with:

  • chicken, crispy fried bacon, Brie, cranberry sauce and mayo
  • cheese, thinly sliced onion, proper ham and pickle
  • good old BLT!
rosettesforjill · 21/10/2018 18:09

@TheSandwichFairy and @YearOfYouRemember M&S do still do the Wensleydale and Carrot Chutney! I had one a couple of weeks ago
