I am wanting to get some inspiration for a holiday next year and also I will admit I'm being nosey! (Please don't answer if you're not comfortable)

I will start.... myself and my DH went on our honeymoon to Singapore and bali for 2 weeks. (No children) We paid £1500 each! I did everything myself and booked all my hotels via quidco to get some cash back!

Please don't see this post as a brag post, for your info I was actually ill for 7 days with food poisoning so not as glam as it sounds! very gutted =(

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 20/10/2018 22:25

4 days camping at a festival. DPs mum treated us. We spent about £110 to hire a car and £50ish on petrol. Food was £40-£50 for the 4 of us.

Some people here spent more on a holiday than i earn!!!

tomhazard · 20/10/2018 22:39

Had a lovely week in Crete in July with DH and 2 DC. Came in at 2k including spends

Dolceandgabbana14 · 20/10/2018 23:11

tomhazard that sounds like a bargain. Would you mind sharing details? Was that in school holidays?

tomhazard · 21/10/2018 06:26

Dolce no- it was early July. My dc were 3 and 5, older in reception, so I took the risk of taking her out of school for a week while she's still little. Blush
Nevertheless it was some very cheap flights to Chania that I booked early- about £600 for all 4 of us. Then accommodation was 100 Euros per night for a 2 bed apartment in a small complex right next to the beach so £700 euros. Kids small and cheap and just loved the pool and beach, so we ate out once a day, and hired a car for an explore one day. Spent on average 70 Euro per day

SharkSave · 21/10/2018 06:46

Mar - long weekend in Norfolk probably £250
Apr - week in Suffolk £800
Aug - long weekend in Yorkshire £400
Sept - week on the isle of Wight £800
Jan next year - week in the Peak District £800 (ish)

That's for 2 adults and a toddler for the first couple and 2 adults, a toddler and a baby for the others. We tend to go all out in nice food/drink/whatever the hell we want when we go away

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 21/10/2018 07:39

Week camping in Italy with husband - about 600

Week alone in the highlands in a cottage - about 300 plus petrol

Week alone in France in air BnB -about 400

Heismyopendoor · 21/10/2018 07:47

£289 for five days at centre Parcs for all five of us. We went twice at the same price this year. We also got a free holiday for five days at a similar place.

Next year we are off to Florida for three weeks. Looking at about 11k all in for us all. I think that’s a great price (plane, hotel/apartment, car, theme parks, spending money, etc)

bruffin · 21/10/2018 07:50

Probably 10k, DH and i aee in New Zealand for 3 and half weeks. First week over and it is wonderful.

anniehm · 21/10/2018 08:06

Canada and the US (west coast) grabbed bargain flights (BA) for £430, rented a car £200) and booked hotels through booking.com. Had an advantage that dh was already there for work the week prior so first 2 nights we stayed in the luxury hotel they were paying for whilst he finished work and we recovered/used hotel facilities and didn't pay for his flight either of course.

We often do this as it saves a lot long haul especially plus they are quite generous with extra days at hotel at the end of trips.

We spent about £100 a night on hotels, some included breakfast. We prefer piecemeal like this but it's harder to control spending of course - i managed to keep daily spend on food and activities to about £100 on average FYI but as we used to live there, we did eat free at peoples houses some nights and and longest hotel stay was very reasonable and included breakfast items ripe for slipping into our bags for a snack ;I love whole fruit on the buffet)

Dolceandgabbana14 · 21/10/2018 08:06

tomhadard that sounds great. Definitely do term time holidays whenever you can - I'm a teacher so I've never been able to do them 😢 Thanks for the tips, might have a look and see what the prices come out like for school holidays.

anniehm · 21/10/2018 08:08

Oh that was Easter, meant we could ski a couple of days. In summer just him, me and the hairy one in the tent - kids are grown so pick and choose their trips with us!

GandolfBold · 21/10/2018 08:11

We are off to Rome next week. Flights were £200 after airmiles, £550 for a Airb+b for 5.

Have just booked a week in Austria for next summer, £670 for the apartment, will book the ferry later.

We are also going to angelswy next May which cost £600 for a cabin. Hoping for good weather.

tomhazard · 21/10/2018 08:17

Dolceandgabbana14 I am also a teacher, but last year was my first year on a private school and we finished on July 6th. Was so good to be able to take advantage of the cheaper holiday opportunity for the first time in 8 years. I feel a bit bad about the term time holiday but she'd already done her assessments by end of June and she's only little. I may do it one more time this year before the second one goes to school

tomhazard · 21/10/2018 08:18

Also Dolceandgabbana14 pm me and I'll give you exact details of where we stayed - he takes a cheaper cash price for the apartments (quite basic but fine) and it didn't go up later in the summer.

namechangedtoday15 · 21/10/2018 09:21

Dolce - we also went to Crete as posted above but in school hols (Aug). The trick I've found with summer flights is to use easyjet if they fly to your destination, and book as soon as they're released (at 5am or whatever). We're a family of 5, got flights
Last year for summer 18 from Manchester to Heraklion on 9th August for £798 and have booked Rhodes for next year (fly out on 31st July) for £850.

SpadesOfGlory · 21/10/2018 09:26

About £4000 on a weeks Mediterranean cruise, flights and 2 hotel stays in Barcelona for DH and I, and £800 on 4 days in Krakow. No holidays planned next year due to baby on the way!

mizu · 21/10/2018 09:32

Oh yesiam Greece for 4 of you at Easter for about £1000 sounds great! Did you island or mainland?

We had 1st holiday this summer for 10 years (been saving for house deposit) in Cornwall. 4 days Airbnb and spending money about £600.

Next year hoping for Lebanon but DDs want Greece too. Easter sounds a perfect time, I lived there for a year many moons ago and June onwards is so hot. Know these kind of hols are going to cost a lot more than £600

May have to take the DDs out of school a couple of days before summer term finishes......

mizu · 21/10/2018 09:36

Yes, I'm a teacher too but FE so could take holidays from the 3rd week of July.

Nomorerainplease · 21/10/2018 10:16

Shockers
That is an amazing price for a ski holiday. Which resort did you go to?
We drove and had a super cheap apartment last easter but the lift pass was £1000 for the 5 of us. Be interested in high enough resorts for Easter. Thanks!

Frazzled2207 · 21/10/2018 18:41

We got cheap flights to the south of France, hired a car and stayed in a lovely self catering cabin in a campsite for a week . Two adults and two kids. This cost about £1500 for all of us which I thought was a bargain. However our flight home got cancelled due to Atc strike and getting home cost a few hundred more pounds which I'm still chasing the airline for.

Shockers · 21/10/2018 19:08

@Nomorerainplease, have a look at Mountvacation. They do a package which includes lift passes and accommodation. I think you can also add on transfers if you’re flying.

We drove last year because we had skis, poles and boots with us, but friends of ours got flights at £110 for a family of four - return!

This year we’ve booked a three bed apartment, with lift passes for five people for £850. The flights are currently £106 return each, but I’m hanging on to see whether they go down a bit.

It’s not posh, but we’ve had many fantastic weeks with them. I’d always go bigger than you think you need, apartment wise- the studio apartments are shoe box sized!
