I'm poorly I fancied just grilled salmon - & DH went and got?

KatyMac · 19/10/2018 13:59

OK I am poorly, I have been off my food

Last night about 10pm I suddenly fancied grilled salmon, mustard brown suagr and soy sauce glaze

No salmon in the freezer

DH went off (to play tennis - important that, not work!) and I asked him to bring some salmon in for me to cook

Came home with no salmon, I'll do a big shop when I collect DD from the train later

I suggested I might need salmon sooner, would he like to do the big shop now or just pop out (5 minutes in the car) to get me some salmon and some nice bread to eat it with

Big discussion ensued & eventually he went

& brought back precooked (can't be heated up again) salmon

We have never had that before ever (important DH only buys what we have had before) never looked at it in the shops or considered it. So it's not hot, it's not marinaded in what I wanted and it probably has things in I'm not allowed (not technically allowed soya sauce either but......I needed a treat)

May I have a temper tantrum?

(can't drive or walk far otherwise I'd go and get my bloody salmon, which tbf I'm not sure I want now after all the discussion)

Hey Katy, hope you feel better soon! I’ve been on MN long enough to know you’re entitled to feel gently peeved, especially in these circumstances! hope you enjoy Sunday salmon

Pliudev · 20/10/2018 18:23

I can't believe some of the replies on here. Do some people just not read? I hope you are feeling better soon and without sounding silly, might we have the recipe? Because I fancy it too, though will obviously do my own shopping.. As for husbands, I left mine home with my son who is veggie. Asked what he'd like for supper he said pasta with tomato sauce. Which is exactly what he got, pasta with a big dollop of ketchup. Never mind I'd left the cupboard full of jars of sauces, pesto and the like.

Juells · 20/10/2018 18:40

A couple of years ago I had a really bad chest infection, DP went to shops and I asked him to bring me some cough linctus..........came back with a pair of maracas.

Sorry OP, this beats your trauma hands down.

I can understand how you felt, I don't know why you're getting such a hard time [HRTFT]. When someone you love is poorly and fancy something specific, you don't get them any old shite on the grounds that 'it'll do'.

FortniteIsTheNewCrack · 20/10/2018 18:51

Maracas I don't think anyone can top that!

DH went out to get a pint of milk once and came back with a PS4 once and no milk. He is very easily distracted

eddielizzard · 20/10/2018 18:58

Um... what's the salmon recipe? Sounds yummy

SilverySurfer · 20/10/2018 19:20

I don't understand how some find it amusing that their partners are so fucking useless. So many threads on here about how lazy and incapable partners/DH are and you don't seem to have twigged that they are professional incompetents. They are fully capable of holding down, in some cases extremely complex jobs but are incapable of doing the most simple of tasks at home.

Why do you think that is? Because THEY DON'T WANT TO DO IT and if they mess up badly or often enough you will never ask again. Job done, win/win to them. They think it's beneath them or consider it to be your job although they won't admit as much.

Are you really ok with this?

mathanxiety · 20/10/2018 19:25

Missingstreetlife
It just feels like they can't be arsed, oh that will do. Food is symbolic of care. Normally would just fend for myself, but feeling fragile makes you want a little attention.
Once when I had some mobility problem, we were having take away, asked mine to get fizzy water. I don't drink alcohol, trying to cut down on sugar so didn't want soft drink.
He came back with wine and beer for himself but thought I could have tap water. I cried, felt so uncared for, made him go back before he could eat, his food got cold, good.
It's not that you can't live without it, just they are so selfish. Need a wife, husband doesn't fit the bill.
YY to this^^ x 1000.

Years ago I had a MC just at the end of the first trimester that involved lots of bleeding and quite a long wait to be seen. I soaked through my sanpro sitting in my doctor's examining room (exH was with toddler DD1 in the waiting room) and was wheeled straight from there to the hospital (leaving exH with toddler DD1) where I had another long wait for a D&C, which I had under general anesthesia. Before going into the theatre I was able to call exH and tell him when they thought I could be taken home, explained that I had bled through my underpants and dress and asked could he bring underpants from my drawer for me as well as something to wear - trousers or skirt plus t-shirt as my dress was bloody and I told him the underwear was too gross to ever recover (soaked with blood/clots) so I had thrown it in a hazardous waste bin. I didn't fancy walking out through the hospital and home from our parking spot at our address in bloody clothing so would be carrying my dress instead of wearing it. So he showed up at the right time with DD and a skirt and t-shirt for me. I was bleeding of course, and the hospital had no underwear to offer me, even the stretchy net things they offered for maternity wear as I wasn't in Maternity. I had to wedge a big sanitary pad between my thighs and try to walk and not drop it. 26 years later I still don't see the funny side of that.

AlexanderHamilton · 20/10/2018 19:25

Katy’s dh is lovely though. He just failed on this occasion!

mathanxiety · 20/10/2018 19:29

Best wishes to you, OP - hope your recovery will go smoothly. Hope you get the HRT.

eggncress · 20/10/2018 19:29

In the nicest possible way, get a grip! You make yourself sound a bit precious. You could have got it yourself if you’re well enough to post on MN about it.

mathanxiety · 20/10/2018 19:29

No she couldn't, eggncress. She can't drive for weeks. RTFT.

threatmatrix · 20/10/2018 19:30

I am with you all the way hun, there will always be someone out there worse off than you but I definitely feel your pain. When your not well and really fancy something and the twunt of a partner gets it wrong it’s infuriating.
Take no notice of the self wallowing always worse off than you people.
Hope you feel better soon xx

wejammin · 20/10/2018 19:40

When we came back from the hospital with newborn DS, after a long labour, I asked DH if he could make me cheese on toast, it was all I wanted.

He brought me a slice of bread, toasted on one side only, with grated non-melted cheese on it. I actually cried.

He is 99.999% of the time a wonderful wonderful man, and I couldn't understand how he had got that wrong. Looking back 7 years later, he also doesn't understand why he did it and thinks he must have been an emotional wreck.

Ilikeknitting · 20/10/2018 19:40

Why can’t pre-cooked salmon be reheated? —misses point—

StrangeLookingParasite · 20/10/2018 19:44

If you're going to chastise someone, you could at least read the bloody thread so you know what you're talking about.

lauramaywharton · 20/10/2018 19:48

Men are useless I've adopted the theory of if you want something from the shop or something done right do it yourself... So online shopping for a bit now then lol 😂... Ps he might have done it on purpose just incase he has make a plan to make him pay for his actions. Mwahahaha

Willow2017 · 20/10/2018 19:50

Jesus wept! Because someone can hold a phone or type they are well enough to drive and shop!!
Rtt op has just had major surgery and cant drive for weeks!

Passmethecrisps · 20/10/2018 20:10

I so get this op.

Could I offer an example of dh’s Getting it right?

When I was about 8 weeks pregnant with my first we were on holiday in the south of France. I had already had to leave a bistro in tears as I didn’t know what I wanted to eat, the waiter talked too fast and I wanted some of the juice everyone else had but I didn’t know how to order it. That sort of idea.

So anyway, dh offered to go to the supermarket and said he would buy a selection of stuff. I settled myself down on the sofa. When he had been gone about 5 minutes I suddenly had the most intense craving for chicken kiev. It wasn’t something we ever ate and I had no way of telling dh. I properly sobbed at my lost kiev.

So anyway, after a while dh came back and said “it’s a bit left field but how about some chicken Kiev?” Genuinely - true story. I sobbed with sheer delight.

I am not normally a delicate flower but I was tired and emotional. As is OP who is recovering from a major operation.

I hope you get and enjoy your salmon

chris8888 · 20/10/2018 20:48

Lol sorry but you sound like a drama queen

KatyMac · 20/10/2018 21:48

Salmon recipe

2xMustard (I like french)
2xBrown sugar
1xSoy sauce

Mixed up together in a bag add the salmon and mooch it around

Then grill

It is lovely

Today I got homemade chicken nuggets which were fabulous (& I got up and made my own breakfast I hash brown bacon and beans)

Poor DH has been beating himself up about the salmon ever since and if I'd been feeling the way I do today I'd have eaten the bloody cold stuff but yesterday I was just too delicate!

Anyway, antibiotics are being taken, along with horrid injections and tomorrow a walk round the garden is planned

Alexander Hamilton is right he is a poppet and he actually feels like shit that he disappointed me (once DD had explained)

Estuarybird..... you married to my sister's ex husband??? She sent him out for eggs and he came back with "a lovely hat and it only cost £xx "Confused
He did it reguarly throughout their 10 yrs together Grin

TheLittleDogLaughed · 21/10/2018 10:04

Hope you enjoy the salmon OP.

My ex was always getting distracted. I sent him out for cod once as I wanted to make fishcakes - had had tonsillitis and I needed something soft and tasty. He was gone for hours and came back with a bike! He’d seen it on sale and forgotten what he was out for so gone for a nice little cycle around the park. He was irritatingly v pleased with himself.
