I'm poorly I fancied just grilled salmon - & DH went and got?

OK I am poorly, I have been off my food

Last night about 10pm I suddenly fancied grilled salmon, mustard brown suagr and soy sauce glaze

No salmon in the freezer

DH went off (to play tennis - important that, not work!) and I asked him to bring some salmon in for me to cook

Came home with no salmon, I'll do a big shop when I collect DD from the train later

I suggested I might need salmon sooner, would he like to do the big shop now or just pop out (5 minutes in the car) to get me some salmon and some nice bread to eat it with

Big discussion ensued & eventually he went

& brought back precooked (can't be heated up again) salmon

We have never had that before ever (important DH only buys what we have had before) never looked at it in the shops or considered it. So it's not hot, it's not marinaded in what I wanted and it probably has things in I'm not allowed (not technically allowed soya sauce either but......I needed a treat)

May I have a temper tantrum?

(can't drive or walk far otherwise I'd go and get my bloody salmon, which tbf I'm not sure I want now after all the discussion)

Noo you don't drain them! You need to add jsut enough water that it's absorbed just at the point the noodles get soft. It's a life skill.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 19/10/2018 20:01

There are some miserable bints on here tonight

Hope you start to feel better soon

Berniethefastestmilkwoman · 19/10/2018 20:06

Sounds like he is having to do a lot. It's only salmon and he did go and get you some.

He was playing tennis! Whilst I’m sure Katymac doesn’t begrudge him a game the least he can do is pamper her at the moment.

Blackladybug · 19/10/2018 20:20

Hope you feel better soon. My OH has just come home with skittles, boost and a Lindt chocolate santa and a tiger bread loaf. I loves him 😁

vampirethriller · 19/10/2018 20:23

ShirleyPhallus my mother said they were bad for the baby anyway and my father offered me a blackcurrant and licorice sweet he'd found in his pocket.

ShivD · 19/10/2018 20:31

Food disappointment is good be of the few things that makes me rageful. I get your angst OP.

Hope you are feeling better soon.

leeloo1 · 19/10/2018 20:58

Awww, at least dd is home for a while. She hasn't finished college already has she (I'm sure she was only just starting 5 minutes ago)...

KatyMac · 19/10/2018 21:26

Oh yes - she has finished and has been working since June!
Registered self-employed and doing OK, certainly applying for enough jobs

Just seen I have an enormous bruise on my hand - I thought that would have gone by now....I guess that explains why my insides feel like this today!

You have my deepest sympathy. Told oh I wanted haribo sourz he forgets completely then says he'll get me something from McDonalds. Not even the same fucking food group

kennelmaid · 19/10/2018 21:35

I had flu and was feeling awful. I asked DH to get me some flowers while he was doing the shopping. He replied "yeah, give us the money then".

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 19/10/2018 21:36

It's not a competitive misery contest, because some people have been widowed doesn't mean the rest of us put up with inconsiderate behaviour from our osm husbands

^^ This, times 1million.

Jeez, so many angry people on here lately, I remember when it was all fields and people had a sense of humour and a Friday night was a laugh goes off muttering to self...

Hope you feel better soon Katy Flowers

Azelma · 19/10/2018 21:59

I'm assuming OP meant she fancied salmon last night, but it was earlier on today that she wanted her husband to get it (after playing tennis). Unless he went out to play tennis at 10pm.

OP - you are not being unreasonable.

KatyMac · 19/10/2018 22:53

night all

BTW we are having salmon for tea on Sunday ]wink]

My dad did pretty well when I was post op. He went to m&s, and because I haven't lived at home for 16 years, he panicked and bought literally every ready meal in there with "I didn't know what you would like"

He then mentioned he got some puddings. My stomach growled at the thought of delicious m&s chocolate/caramel/toffee goodness or maybe even a rhubarb crumble or treacle sponge. Something tasty

What had he got? Low calorie lemon mousse (not envy)
"Your mother likes it" he said when questioned

Willow2017 · 20/10/2018 00:14

Sounds like he is having to do a lot

Yeah playing tennis and popping int .a shop is sooooooo exhaustung poor lamb. Op should not expect him to lift a finger to help her post surgery when she is ill.

toherdoor · 20/10/2018 01:56

God forbid the menz should have to do a lot.

EstuaryBird · 20/10/2018 11:39

Apologies for not responding to comments on my 'maracas' comment earlier......I went to see Saxon last night and have been a tad 'under the weather'...

DP never really explained why he purchased maracas instead of Cough linctus, just said that he thought I'd like them Hmm

Op I feel for you!! Some years back I was having a miserable night and sent dh to get me lots of different chocolate bars. He did get me lots of bars but he managed to pick all the ones I didn't like. Lots of plain little ones when it should have been obvious that I meant the extra caramely crunchy chewy triple chocolate delights. I didn't dare to tell him as he seemed so pleased with himself for helping a damsel in distress.

Eve · 20/10/2018 12:10

You poor thing!

When I was pregnant with DS1 and had severe hypermesis I could only keep down mashed potato.

DH came home on Friday from working away all week to find me in bed , more sick than a sick thing having not eaten all day.

He made me some mash, but put olive oil in, not butter and milk ( he’s Italian).

I cried (super sensitive pregnant taste buds) but he made me more!!

20 years later he still reminds me of it!

LizB62A · 20/10/2018 12:37

I know it's not really the point of this thread, but can I ask @KatyMac about this bit:
Soy because pre op (hopefully post is different) it was a food I was intolerant to.........I have great unrealistic hopes of eating all the things I could eat before

I'm intolerant to so many things - what is it about your operation that might help with your intolerances? (and can you keep us posted ?!)
Or are you just hoping for a miracle? Smile

Thanks, and wishing you a speedy recovery (and lots of salmon - which is one of the many things I can't eat ....!)

KatyMac · 20/10/2018 12:47

Estury - thank you - nice maracas!

Liz I messaged you; not really a subject for polite conversation Grin

I hear you, OP.

I’d had a really crappy day, went to have a few of my chocolate hobnobs that oh had hidden from the kids for me to enjoy on a bad day. They weren’t where we usually hide things, called him and he’d taken them to work instead!!

He apologised and said he’d buy ice cream on the way home from work. Mmm I thought, I love Ben and Jerry’s. He appeared with a magnum for me...... not the same at all. I had a little strop so you’re more than allowed!
