Central Mexico. The people and the culture is amazing.

Orkney! I'd love to live there.

I like non-tourist places

bastedyoungturkey · 20/10/2018 08:04

Why not Wensleydale MrsA?

Greenteandchives · 20/10/2018 08:18

Iguazu Falls. Breathtaking.
Chilean Fjords. Most of South America actually.
China. I always wanted to visit and couldn’t believe I was actually there!
Florence. I could never grow tired of it.
Venice in December. Deserted and eerie with only the sound of footsteps in the fog.
Utah, as a pp has said. The scenery is unreal.

missmartha · 20/10/2018 08:21

California, paticularly the desert, so moody and beautiful
South of France, Provence and the Luberon
Jordan
Paris
Tokyo

Santorini- our cruise ship stopped off for 1 day and I had the best day with my best friend. Swam in the sea, sat and drank wine and coffee and ate freshly cooked bread overlooking the views.

Istanbul- first time I’d ever been to a city that’s not completely “European” and I was blown away by the sights, the friendliness of people.

Highlands of Scotland and Skye- amazing views, amazing food, that’s me sold.

Yosemite- climbing Half Dome was one of the greatest achievements of my life. I’ve been twice now and can’t get enough of the views every time. On the same road trip Monterey, 17 Mile Drive, Napa Valley were also all pretty special.

Vegas- Disneyland for grownups! Cirque du Soleil made me cry with wonder!

Skiing in Levi Finland. Beautiful scenery. Malawi as a pp mentioned - such a wonderful country. Have only been for work as it happens but would love to go back for a holiday on the lake. Also Scottish Highlands. Hopefully heading back there next year for lots of walking.

BathTangle · 20/10/2018 08:32

Botswana: I've spent a lot of time in Africa but it's my favourite country
NE Scotland

I went to New Zealand on my honeymoon (15 years ago), travelled the width and breadth of the country. Amazing. I especially loved the central South Island and its stunning lakes / mountains.

Loved Boston too.

Babybearsporij · 20/10/2018 09:01

Croatia was beautiful - we stayed on the Dalamation coast. Wonderful weather, wonderful people and just beautiful landscape and tasty food.
Barcelona - just wow. So much interesting stuff.
Vienna - again, wow. Every corner you turned you'd see something else beautiful. Plus cake. Grin
The Tirol in Austria. Picture perfect and fairytale.

Babybearsporij · 20/10/2018 09:03

Oh gosh, how could I forget Sinagpore? Like the city of the future. Absolutely amazing.

whiteroseredrose · 20/10/2018 09:09

Barcelona for the architecture especially Parc Guell.

Taj Mahal in the 1980s when you could just wander about, sit on it and gaze at the view.

Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Such a welcome sight spoilt a little by the thought of the climb back up pre dawn the next day!

Shoefleur · 20/10/2018 09:16

Salisbury. Genuinely. It’s beautiful, full of history and lovely independent shops. It makes me so sad to think how they must have been struggling recently.

Nononononono33 · 20/10/2018 09:17

Oh yes I meant to add Singapore too. Amazing place.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 20/10/2018 09:18

Tasmania. Perfect!

MaudesMum · 20/10/2018 09:32

Venice and Florence - both in November - beautiful and much easier to get into art galleries and so on
Granada - the Alhambra is the only place I've returned to
Cordoba
Croatia - brilliant to be able to combine time on islands with time in Split and Dubrovnik
Namibia - lots of wildlife, but also a wonderful coastline and beautiful deserts
Egypt - on a group tour which took us down the nile and to all the ancient sites. Wouldn't fancy doing it independently
Cuba!

TokyoKyoto · 20/10/2018 09:39

What a great thread.

I'm going to say Tokyo and Kyoto Grin

Loads of ideas here!

TigerJae · 20/10/2018 09:46

Matha’s Vineyard - unexpectedly beautiful
Buzios, Brazil - chilled, great beaches, bars, lovely people. Brazil in general in fact.
Iceland - it had such charm I looked into moving there
Salzburg - as others have said. Do the Sound of Music bus tour. Fabulous.

Taffeta · 20/10/2018 10:03

I’d agree with doing Venice in the late autumn, fantastic time to be there

C0untDucku1a · 20/10/2018 10:05

Kefalonia
Cuba - we pootled about the country and loved every bit of it.
Stayed in a small town in switzerland but i cant remember the name. An uncle has a holiday home there.
Bareclona.
Kenya

crunchymum looks like we have the same travel agent Grin . Is your next stop australia by any chance?

Amaaboutthis · 20/10/2018 10:13

Mallorca. My favourite place ever

New York. We’ve lots of friends and family there and know it well. Feels like an extension of London and therefore like home. Would happily live there

Tel Aviv Amazing beaches, food and culture. It’s a European city with a Middle Eastern vibe, totally modern and liberal, secular and it’s also very mixed with no tension or under currents.
