The thread about the worst holidays people have been on is really useful but also depressing....!

Where has everyone been that was amazing/beautiful/fun etc etc? Smile

Norway. The scenery is amazing and the three cities we visited (Bergen, Stavanger Oslo), were great fun (liked Bergen best). Cologne - just "nice". Finally, Galloway the best part of Scotland in my view.

Enidblyton1 · 20/10/2018 00:08

Venice!
But this is one place where the season you visit really makes a difference. I’ve been to Venice in July, April, November, December and February. I would NEVER return in July. Absolutely magical in November with misty atmosphere and acqua alta

Kefalonia - stunning place, just beautiful

Cornwall - love the feel of the place, very relaxed, beautiful scenery

New York City - so many little cities all joined together, all so different. And the food!

Most English coastlines, we live on a beautiful island and my aim is to travel it all in a camper van when I retire.

Stormsurfer · 20/10/2018 00:25

Vietnam
Jordan
Norway

LittleMy77 · 20/10/2018 00:34

Costa Rica - amazing food, scenery, people and not too Americanized (apart from the seedy underbelly of sex tourism, grim)

BlackStar7 · 20/10/2018 00:44

I haven't been to a lot of places but...

I really liked Rhodes Medieval town. My children 7,7 and 14 really enjoyed it too.

The Isle of Wight. Mostly all of it. Beautiful and varied beaches. Lots of walks and exploring. Devils Chimney, Tennyson Down, Totland bay for swimming in on a hot day.

Staying in the Atherton Tablelands in Oz with a lady who looks after tree kangaroos, one of them jumped on me and we saw them jump into a tree. Kids and us got to feed pademelon and possum there and DD got to bottlefeed a bettong. Also loved the Great Barrier Reef which is nearby and stayed at a treehouse in the rainforest nearby and also saw cassowary and wallabies there. Everyone really friendly. oh and cuddled a koala.

Costa Rica for wildlife - sloth, monkeys, raccoons and coati etc, rainforest, ziplines, active volcanoes.

Cape Town - penguins on the beach and big 5 and Table Mountain though be careful with safety.

Finland - stayed at a lovely place with brown bears in the wild.

Getting an animal theme Grin

Penguinsetpandas · 20/10/2018 00:50

Oz, CR was August, Finland July (hunting season from mid August), SA maybe March? Can't remember.

Wowthatwasabigstep · 20/10/2018 01:09

South Africa - been numerous times and just such a beautiful country.

Tanzania - fabulous scenery.

Zanzibar - unspoilt when I visited.

Beirut - spectacular scenery and beautiful food, such a vibrant place.

Vienna - walked for miles and fuelled on the fabulous food.

Sri Lanka - an unspoilt vibe and the most memorable salads!

AlbertWinestein · 20/10/2018 01:26

I started listing a whole load of places and then realized it was just quicker to type, Utah. I absolutely LOVE Utah.

ginandtonicformeplease · 20/10/2018 01:43

Iran - Esfahan and Shiraz
Lebanon - Beirut and the Bekaa Valley (I think that's red zones by the FCO at the moment)
Tunisia - loads of fantastic ancient sites
Sarajevo

penisbeakers · 20/10/2018 02:01

Poundland

RedPandaMama · 20/10/2018 02:29

I did a little solo trip of Switzerland while I was at uni - Geneva, Interlaken, Bern and Basel, with a few small towns in between as stop offs. All absolutely breathtaking. Expensive AF though.

Tübingen in Germany is amazing. Stuttgart surprised me too, lovely city.

Livness12 · 20/10/2018 02:32

Santorini. Absolutely beautiful.

BruegelTheElder · 20/10/2018 02:42

I love Berlin. I said it in the other thread but it's a great city. Rich in history, it has a fantastic art scene, great restaurants/cafes, and really nice people. I love Germans tbh.

I also like Lisbon a lot. I'm not sure why, it's just nice!

I travelled around Mexico a bit and loved it in the smaller towns/countryside. The big cities were pretty horrible though.

I loved New York when I was younger. Went twice in my 20s and just loved the vibe and the busy-ness of it. Now I'm older and less fun, I think I'd enjoy it a lot less!

BruegelTheElder · 20/10/2018 02:43

@lastqueenofscotland Beruit about 12 years ago which I imagine you can’t get to now

My friend went with her DP in July! Apparently it's far enough from the border that it's fairly (although obviously not completely) safe. And they loved it.

hodgeheg92 · 20/10/2018 02:45

Sri Lanka or The Gambia are my favourite countries - both have such happy people and both are very humbling.

My favourite cities are Boston, Prague or Rome.

I visited Israel/The West Bank as a teenager and adored the trip, definitely Mt most memorable, but it was special for me when it might not be so for others.

bluetongue · 20/10/2018 03:56

Interesting to see good reports on Iran here.

It looks fascinating and I’ve long been tempted to travel there but the requirement to wear ‘modest’ clothing and a headscarf does worry me a bit. What time of year did everyone go? Don’t think I could do long sleeves there in the middle of summer.

stellabird · 20/10/2018 03:58

Egypt
China
New Zealand

Effendi · 20/10/2018 06:24

I just came back from Istanbul and loved it. Would go again in a heartbeat.

HeronLanyon · 20/10/2018 06:41

Far west Cornwall.
India
Andaman islands once away from Port Blair and onto smaller islands.
Southern Peloponnese Greece.
Some parts of Calabria Italy if you can look past the shockingly awful rubbish fly tipped everywhere.
Seville/Córdoba.
Only one ? Far west Cornwall.

Magmatic80 · 20/10/2018 06:42

Death Valley blew my mind. Was expecting it to be a little one dimensional but it was fantastic.

DragonGoby · 20/10/2018 06:47

The Inca trail in Peru
Nepal (we like trekking)
Florence

pinkmagic1 · 20/10/2018 06:59

Marrakech. Loved the Jema el Fna (main square), it was just a fantastic, crazy place, the sights, the smells, the noise.
Loved wandering round the souks and they sell the most amazing orange juice and leather bags!

MadisonAvenue · 20/10/2018 07:08

New York. Always my first choice of places to go, I never get bored of it and always shed a little tear on arrival as it feels like I’m home.
Los Angeles
Washington DC
