The thread about the worst holidays people have been on is really useful but also depressing....!

Molyvos on island of Lesvos, Greece. Really atmospheric and especially great for eating out in the evenings
Slovenia
Castleton, between the Low and High Peak in the Peak District. Great for walks and was a small village with five pubs!
Paulton’s Park really impressed me
Salzburg was great for a mini break

This might not be what the Op wanted but I found that Diggerland was far better than I expected. We were there for hours!

bellinibobble · 18/10/2018 21:54

Both of mine have been in the last 12 months!

Iceland - where I ticked off the top of my bucket list seeing the most amazing aurora borealis.

Bologna - where I got engaged and ate my way around the city to celebrate. Oh Ragu..

Chiang Mia in Thailand. The whole city was just amazing, but mainly the elephant sanctuary there. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Kefalonia

Menorca, particularly my favourite Ciutadella. Lots of winding narrow cobbled streets with lots of coffee shops/bars with outdoor seating, opening out onto squares with fountains/children's playgrounds etc. Beautiful buildings and just a lovely place to potter around.

All these places people are saying they loved - did you go in season or more shoulder/out of season? Wonder if that makes a lot of difference.

I posted on the other thread about getting the shits in Egypt, but the snorkelling and diving were the best ever. I need to get my head under the Red Sea again really.

Best ever holiday however was Tanzania. Visited a dear friend who lives in Arusha and runs her own safari company. I did a trip that would have cost three times as much if I'd booked it via a holiday company. I love that woman and need to get back out there asap.
