For the first time in his life one of my brothers made a cake, and it was for me and one of my fav, cherry and walnut !!! It tastes lovely even though he forgot the milk which is in the recipe ! But what a lovely thing to do.

Dry here today, but it's very dark and overcast, and of course bloody freezing. Becca hope you have adequate heating to keep you warm.

It's not that cold here lin

PinkHeart5914 · 25/01/2019 20:37

Evening owls

Lovely gesture from your brother Lin Stuff like that means a lot

It’s not that cold here either, last few days it’s been blooming artic but not so bad today.

Becca19962014 · 25/01/2019 21:00

I meant to ask lin did the missing milk make a big difference? I've forgotten ingredients sometimes when baking and sometimes it doesn't make a difference (others it does!)

Mummylin · 26/01/2019 12:42

No actually it didn't Becca and the silly thing use that they use green top milk and recipe said blue top so he went and bought it specially ! I would just of used what I already had. But it still tasted lovely and I thought it was so sweet of him to do that. I have lovely brothers !

I'm glad it tasted nice, even if I didn't get any Sad

I think it's only if you bake you know you can use whatever you have to be honest I'd buy exactly what was in recipes when younger right down to branded ingredients!

Mummylin · 26/01/2019 13:46

He is actually very good at cooking and makes all sorts of tasty meals, and has done for years, but has never made a cake until now. I have just had a slice actually with my cuppa ! Dh won't eat it as he dosent like cherries or walnuts ! I also like date and walnut and dh wouldn't eat that either as he dosent like dates !

I don't, I use what I have and I don't weigh things either, I use the old tablespoon method for flour and sugar, a dollop of marg to me is an ounce and so on. I was taught tablespoon way at school and have always used that .

Evening owls

I bake the same way Lin I don’t measure etc but I think that’s because I’ve baked for so long I can do it by eye. I use to follow recipes to the letter and had more cakes go wrong then I’m sure of it!

It’s home made pizza & Prosecco night for me and dh now the dc are all asleep. We like cooking together as it gives us a chance to talk and avoid our phones

Mummylin · 26/01/2019 19:29

I have an Apple turnover that dh bought me from Lidl today. He brings home all these things for treats, but then expects me to eat them all in one go !!! I just can't, I'm only small and don't eat massive portions of anything. He is about 2 1/2. Times my weight !

I agree with you Pink I'm of the " bung it all in " type and yes most things turn out fine, I can't be bothered fiddling about with stuff.

Oooooooo Apple turnover.... Yummy....

Mummylin · 27/01/2019 13:53

Wah ! My ds and his wife just flown off to Lanzarote. The plane flew over so I watched them go. I hate my family being away, I am a real worry guts. Won't feel settled now until they come back ! So windy here today, dry though.
Apple turnover was lovely Becca !! I love them too.

Oh lucky them Lin the wether will be so much warmer than here, just what you need this time of year of the slump after Christmas.

Bloody freezing here today, they are forecasting snow for tomorrow night but I am hopeful it won’t be too much as the roads round here are all country lanes, they don’t grit them so unsafe which makes it a pain in the backside everytime we go out. How is the weather for you Becca?

Becca19962014 · 28/01/2019 15:04

Sunny and cold today. Spent yesterday at hospital, bit of a disaster all round really, been unwell since. Hoping for early night tonight to make up for it.

Mummylin · 28/01/2019 15:58

Oh crikey Becca what happened ? Hope you are feeling ok today.
I am in a filthy mood. I have very inconsiderate neighbours on one side and they keep lighting their garden burners in the daytime when a few of us around have our washing out. It's not flames, it's just so much bloody smoke, it makes my house smell of it too. I went storming off down the garden , but of course no-one was there. They keep on doing it regularly and I'm fed up with it. I'm going to put my garden hose on it next time they do it, and they will be lucky if they don't get it too. It's a father and son. And if I see them, ( they don't come out much ) I'm going to say something ( a lot ) selfish bloody idiots.

Today I'm dealing with the side effects of very little food and the severe hypo I ended up having as they refused to tell me I was going home until I was due to have food (literally about to eat and have meds and told I was fine and to go). It was horrible really. I'd had a suspected heart attack and DVT. Supposedly not either and just my condition worsening and to see a GP.

Mummylin · 28/01/2019 18:00

So what was it then ?

OP posts:
Becca19962014 · 28/01/2019 18:55

They don't know. Like I said probably just my condition worsening.

Mummylin · 28/01/2019 19:40

No proper advice for you then Becca , that was helpful then ! NOT. Have you managed to make apt for gp ?

OP posts:
Becca19962014 · 28/01/2019 20:11

They very clearly wanted me out! Got appointment for GP later in week. I already know what they'll say and it won't be about how good their advice was!!

PinkHeart5914 · 30/01/2019 11:58

Hello owls

Becca Sorry to see you had to go to hospital. How are you now? And is the wether still ok for you?

No snow here, it’s bitterly cold but a lovely clear blue sky. The dc are still at mil after a sleepover last night, so I’ve only just got up and now I’m reading my book with a late breakfast of chocolate pastry plaits and coffee

Becca19962014 · 30/01/2019 13:02

I've overdone it today, I needed food as well as meds and thought I could cope getting both. Still I don't need to go out again now. We've had a lot of hail and sleet. I know it's bad outside of the area I live in so I'm lucky in that respect. Am hoping its not as bad as predicted tomorrow as have GP..

Mummylin · 31/01/2019 17:28

Have you hit snow Becca ? I like to think that once it gets to you it will then come down here !
Dh been signed off from hospital, all is well with him.

OP posts:
Becca19962014 · 31/01/2019 18:56

No but it has hit other parts of Wales apparently. I think it's missing us. At least I really hope so. I love snow but am totally trapped by it these days.

PinkHeart5914 · 01/02/2019 15:42

Hello owls, hope your keeping warm it’s freezing here although thankfully no snow.

Was planning on staying in all cosy today but ended up having to go to the bank as they blocked my card when I tried to pay for something online 🙄 It wasn’t even a huge purchase and it wasn’t unusual activity on the account so what they were thinking I don’t know. All sorted now though after the 40 minute drive to said bank

Going to cuddle up with the dc and watch Thomas the tank now
