I'm currently thinking about baby names and I was wondering what your honest opinions about the name Christopher are. Thanks Grin

It’s ok but like the nick name kit massively

BringOnTheScience · 08/10/2018 21:54

Excellent name. Doesn't date. Can become Chris if you wish. Just be aware that, at 11 letters, it's too long for many personalised items.

IdaBWells · 08/10/2018 21:55

I like it because it is now a rarely used name but is classic. Not a big fan of the nickname Chris and Kit is super trendy...

Didn’t Benedict Cumberbatch use it for his first born?

BringOnTheScience · 08/10/2018 21:57

... or Topher is the more upperclass abbreviation.

lilballofanxiety · 08/10/2018 22:02

Thank you! And I love the nickname kit too and I'm not too much of a fan of Chris but it's kind of inevitable I think (I'll just call him by his full name at home!) Smile

Love it
Hate topher...is that a thing now

Faster · 08/10/2018 22:07

Oh I love it. Classic, strong name. Went to schools with a lovely one.

DowntonCrabby · 08/10/2018 22:12

I love it. I’ve only even known lovely boys and men with the name. It was on our shortlist when we had DS.

Sadik · 08/10/2018 22:15

I like it a lot. Like Kit, Kester and Christy as alternative nicknames to the ubiquitous Chris (but that's fine too)

lilballofanxiety · 08/10/2018 22:20

thankyou Grin I think I may have chosen the right name now!

One of mine is called Christopher.
He shortens it. I love the name obviously but he was going to be called
Something else but when I saw him I just said from nowhere Christopher!

darkblu · 08/10/2018 22:30

Love it

BringOnTheScience · 08/10/2018 22:30

The cutest thing is their convoluted efforts to say their own name when it's that complex. The self-selected nicknames stick Smile

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 08/10/2018 22:30

Love Christopher, Kit, Kester and Christy. I know a Tiffer. I do not love that.

Davros · 08/10/2018 22:43

How about Christian with all the same nicknames? For either name I assume you are non-religious or Christian?

FoodGloriousFud · 08/10/2018 22:46

I'm married to one! He's a Chris to almost everyone.

CarrotCakeMuffins · 08/10/2018 22:47

Re cute pronunciation, DD used to say Crisperter Robin when I read her Winnie the Pooh stories.

Its a lovely name OP.

KurriKurri · 08/10/2018 22:59

I love it - it was my late brother's name and we always used the full version, not any of the shortenings.

Girafaig · 08/10/2018 23:18

Brilliant name, but I'm biased Grin
It passed the supply teacher test (obivious to spell and say on a register) and is classic enough to survive being a bit off trend without being dated. We've known a couple of others around nursery/ school; last year there were 3 of them.

Mine is usually known by his full name and we nick name him down to a shorter version from the second half following his sibling's attempts to say it when he was born. He does get Chris at school which feels odd to me as he's named after another Chris in the family, maybe he'll grow into it as he gets older. I can't control what people call him and it's part of him changing as he grows up.

He's done a great job on learning to write all 11 letters of it Grin

AvoidingDM · 08/10/2018 23:31

I like it, almost went for it as a middle name but changed my mind at the last minute. It just seemed a bit long and out of place between the other two.

MrsJamieFraser2 · 08/10/2018 23:54

I used to babysit for a Christopher who was nicknamed Tiffa/Tiff as that's how his younger sisters pronounced it.

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2018 23:55

Love it.

FinnegansWhiskers · 08/10/2018 23:58

One of mine is Christopher 😀

MingaTurtle · 08/10/2018 23:58

It's a bit religious for me. So it depends on whether you want that connection.
