I bought this at a charity shop, but I've no idea what it is... Any ideas?

I love this odd object. It is metal and the leaves are vine leaves. I wondered if anyone might now what it is?

Umbrella stand?

Onatreebyariver · 08/10/2018 20:51

Candle holder? Just put a candle on the black flat plate.

Pusheenicorn · 08/10/2018 20:51

Is it a jewellery holder?

The plate at the bottom for rings and earrings and necklaces etc hung off the branches?

It's very nice I am jealous.

userblablabla · 08/10/2018 20:51

For keys maybe?

LoadOfRubbish · 08/10/2018 20:52

Holding grapes?

Catonaroof · 08/10/2018 20:52

Wine bottle holder for pouring wine?

7salmonswimming · 08/10/2018 20:53

Grape displayer, tray at the bottom flrmuts or cubes of cheese?

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 08/10/2018 20:53

Bottle holder?

LynetteScavo · 08/10/2018 20:54

I think it's a bird feeder. You put water in the leaf dish and hand a net of nuts from the top bit.

Can you push bathe bottom into the ground? We had one at work.

Nothavingfunrightnow · 08/10/2018 20:55

It is too small to be an umbrella stand. I don't think it is for jewellery because the top section looks like it might hold a glass dish of sorts. The flat section at the bottom is a bit bigger than a side plate.

Pusheenicorn, I love it 😍

How big?

I think you've got it the wrong way round. It shouid be horizontal with a (red) wine bottle in it for pouring. I've seen them quite a lot in middle Europe.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 08/10/2018 20:55

i used to have one, there should be a glass teardrop in the top ring that you can fill with water/wine/juice

it had an "optic type" thing in the bottom to dispense your drink.

Randomusername01 · 08/10/2018 20:56

Garden ornament with bird bath at bottom?

AviatorShades · 08/10/2018 20:56

You put a spot of water in the shallow bowl and fairies can come and bathe in it in the moonlight, so you really do need to have it outside,OP (smiles and nods knowledgeably)

Nothavingfunrightnow · 08/10/2018 20:57

I cannot see how a bottle could fit in there.

Yes, the bottom has legs on it that may well push into the ground. LynetteScavo, I've not seen bird feeders on the ground?

I had something similar the top bit looks like a delight holder that's missing the little glass that the twilight would go in. Not sure about the bottom bit.

Acopyofacopy · 08/10/2018 20:58

It’s a wine dispenser. The glass wine dispenser should sit in it like an upside down drop of water. You press your glass to the bottom and the wine is dispensed. My parents had one in the 1980s. You can find complete sets on eBay or Etsy.

DittoNut · 08/10/2018 20:58

Id go with wine bottle holder given that the decoration is vine leaves.

Harleypuppy · 08/10/2018 20:58

Candle holder. Round candle in the top and a pillar candle in the bottom. I had one except it had a glass votive type thing in the top and didn't have a solid base.

ImNotonLinkedInNo · 08/10/2018 20:58

is it the end of a curtain rail, or to hold curtains back?

Whisky2014 · 08/10/2018 20:58

Looks like a bird feeder to me.

HeronLanyon · 08/10/2018 20:59

A conversation piece anyway !

Nothavingfunrightnow · 08/10/2018 21:00
