Thinking of joining weight watchers

fraggle84 · 08/10/2018 20:15

I need to lose some weight

Have previously lost 2 stone with slimming world but fell into a rut and stopped going in June

Have put on 5lb since and I'm fed up

Feel like I need a fresh start and thinking of ww rather than sw

Foods that I like - porridge, most veg, salad, chicken, prawns, pasta, rice, jacket potatoes , mince based meals eg chilli

Don't like - roast meat, fish except prawns, steak, lamb, bacon, sweet potatoes

Any advice? Opinions on ww?

It's good if you get the app and follow the rules! It's not that different to sw really. I need the regular public weighing and checking in to lose weight though!

fraggle84 · 08/10/2018 20:57

I think I need a kick up the bum!

What's the ww app like? The sw one was awful

App is great! Plus a social media like feature with loads of inspirational stories and pictures.

The app is really good. I started 2 weeks ago and I'm really enjoying it.

fraggle84 · 09/10/2018 06:27

Does it explain it all when you sign up on the app? No idea about ww so would need something to read through

Also do I need ww branded food? We usually shop at Aldi

OP posts:
JuniperBeer · 09/10/2018 06:58

No you don’t need branded food. Just get equivalents! Eg yogurts etc.

errorofjudgement · 09/10/2018 07:11

Having done both, I think the key differences in what you eat are that on WW you have to point your carbs (potatoes, rice, pasta) and there’s less reliance/recipes on the artificial fat-free stuff like yogurts eg muller lite.

I’ve found I’m losing more weight and feel I’m eating more healthily on WW, but equally I have friends who swear by SW.

fraggle84 · 09/10/2018 07:26

So on ww would something like this work?

B - poached egg on wholemeal toast or porridge with semi skimmed milk

L - homemade soup or jacket potato, tuna & salad

D - homemade chilli & rice or spaghetti Bol?

I don't tend to use jar sauces in cooking if that makes a difference

Definitely, sounds quite similar to what I eat, minus the bread. I lost 8stone on WW so I'm their biggest fan. Had a baby and put some of it back on but it's coming off again.

fraggle84 · 09/10/2018 10:44

That's fantastic! Do you follow the flex program? I've seen that there's 2 different ones

I need something that's family friendly as I like everyone to eat together, not restricted to certain brands and with a good app as that's one thing I didn't like about sw

OP posts:
SuperDuperJezebel · 09/10/2018 13:26

I do, yeah, I've been following it for about 4.5y, apart from the 9mo when I was pregnant where I lived on burgers and white bread and the thought of vegetables made me feel sick 😢 back on it now though and feeling loads better.

Agentornika · 09/10/2018 13:35

WW is fab, I've lost over 8 stone now and I don't use any WW products. The app is good and I go to meetings as I need someone to weigh me or I wouldn't stick to it. I tend to stick to the no count plan 95% of the time but have a points day if I fancy something not on the list

Agentornika · 09/10/2018 13:37

My menu today

B: Big bowl of porridge (45g dry weight) with skimmed milk, Starbucks skinny latte, banana

L: Tuna & egg salad with lettuce, onions, tomatoes, peppers, dollop of Hellmann's lighter than light mayo. Natural Greek fat free yogurt and drizzle of honey (from weeklies)

D: Steak, jacket potato, roasted veg

hilbil21 · 09/10/2018 13:44

I love weight watchers. Good app and works if you stick to it. There's a deal just now you can get 4 months for price of 2 but don't think it's around for much longer

Wilma55 · 09/10/2018 13:48

The no count plan is not supported anymore

fraggle84 · 09/10/2018 14:17

I've joined!!

Just a couple of questions

Are these free? Herbs, spices, chopped tomatoes, sugar free drinks like diet lemonade/squash?

Also can you tell me the no of points in branston baked beans? My can has no barcode and can't seem to search without one on the app. When I press manual it just wants me to type in the code

Thanks

errorofjudgement · 09/10/2018 14:21

Congratulations!

Small tin of Branson baked beans are 6 points.
Fresh and dried herbs and spices are free
Pretty sure sugar free drinks are too
Tinned Tom’s generally free, though some tins are a point I think (Napolina)

hilbil21 · 09/10/2018 14:32

If you want to work out the points of something press the cross at the bottom of the app it will give you options one of which is the calculator and you can put the nutritional values from the can in there. Are you on fb? I can pm you the name of an extremely helpful group if you are. Loads of good ideas, think there's about 50k members!

lifechangesforever · 09/10/2018 14:38

Baked beans are a 3 points for 3 tablespoons. If you can't scan then just search for the item or use the unbranded generic name (I.e. baked beans).

lifechangesforever · 09/10/2018 14:39

Can I have the name of the group please @hilbil21 Smile

hilbil21 · 09/10/2018 14:39

I've got a recipe for homemade baked beans if you would like it. They're really nice, and Osp!

hilbil21 · 09/10/2018 14:40

I will screenshot it actually. Probably better for if you are struggling to find. It's very good. Two secs I will be back lol

hilbil21 · 09/10/2018 14:41

Here we go. Think you need to answer a couple of questions and wait for admin approval but I've found it helps loads

Thinking of joining weight watchers
fraggle84 · 09/10/2018 14:49

Brilliant thanks I'll join that group

Thanks again for everyone's help

Seems simpler than sw but less free foods which is probably a good thing really!
