Tall people wearing heels

If you're 5 ft 11 plus, do you wear heels? And would you look at someone who did?

I am 5ft 11 and a bit, and I wear heels to weddings etc but never on a day to day basis. But I've seen some casual heeled boots that would be good for work etc and I'm just wondering if I would stick out too much if I wore them, as I don't want to look huge.

Any thoughts?

I'm 5ft 8 and rarely wear heels. I feel like I tower over everyone if I do! I remember when I was younger, I was wearing some fabulous boots with a 4in heel, some nasty girls in a shop gave me the dirtiest look then loudly said "she's going to break her neck!" Sad Trainers for me now!

ChristmasArmadillo · 08/10/2018 15:25

I’m only a small bit shorter than you and I wear heels on a regular basis.

TheKitchenWitch · 08/10/2018 15:27

I’m 6 foot and wear heels most of the time. I like the shoes better and find them more comfortable for walking than flats.

@FrazzyAndFrumpled you're exactly the height I want to be! I like being tall but wish I was the height I am in heels.

TheMerryWidow1 · 08/10/2018 15:28

I'm the same height as you. Growing up I used to hide away my height and slouch about. Not now, I'm proud to be tall and yes wear those heels!!

FrazzyAndFrumpled · 08/10/2018 15:49

@Proofer that's funny! I always said I want to be 5ft 3 so I can wear big heels every day Grin

Freshprincess · 08/10/2018 15:54

I’m same as you. Heels only for high days and holidays, mostly because my old lady knees Can’t cope on a daily basis.

We’re pretty casual At work, and I’ve got used to wearing flats.

I used to be really self conscious about my height when I was in my teens, but I don’t really care that much now. It’s not like I can do anything about it.

I would notice you in your heels, mostly because if I’m in flats I’d be smaller than you, and that doesn’t happen very often.

TinyLittleTextMessage · 08/10/2018 15:55

I'm 5'10" and always wear heels for work.

But I never wear them socially as the conversation can take place a nearly foot below my height when I'm in heels. Also DH is 5'9" So i would tower over him, which I don't like (but oddly he does like!).

SittingPetty · 08/10/2018 15:56

I’m 5’11 too and only wear high heels on nights out (rarely at the moment). I hate being tall as I’m an introvert and I do get comments about my height in heels but love how I feel in them - much more dressed up.

BarbedBloom · 08/10/2018 16:05

I’m 6ft 1 and I wear them sometimes. I don’t wear them more mainly because I find them uncomfortable rather than worrying about towering over others

AnguaUberwaldIronfoundersson · 08/10/2018 16:11

I'm 5ft 9 and have always hated high heels. I'm way too fat for them now (the pain is not worth it!) but even when I was thinner, I am so broad shouldered/big boned that I always felt like a poor cross dresser in them!

At most I wear a 1.5" wedge or block heel. I've not work anything over 3" for about 7 years Blush

Peraltiago · 08/10/2018 16:12

I'm 5'9" and don't wear anything higher than a three inch heel mainly because I can't walk in them! And they're SO uncomfortable. I like a low heel for work, and 2 inches or so for a smart occasion. I'm not concerned about being too tall, in fact I like it! I find it hard to feel properly dressy in a flat shoe (though maybe I haven't found the right kind). But I honestly don't understand how anyone can wear a high stiletto heel, they should be torture implements.

Heismyopendoor · 08/10/2018 16:20

I would look, but not in a bad way :) I’m 4ft 11 so I’d just be wishing I was taller lol

Buy the boots, I bet you will look great in them.

skippy67 · 08/10/2018 16:26

I'm 5' 9" and wear heels on a night out. It's taken me a long while, but I love being tall!

IrianOfW · 08/10/2018 16:27

I am the same height as you and I love heels! Sadly I cant wear them as I remain elegant for about 30 minutes and then I start waddling like a duck Sad Not to mention that lots of running has given me tendonitis in both feet and heels HUUUURTTT!

If its any comfort to you, women as tall as us look freaky to other people anyway..... heels wont make any difference Wink

Jakethekid · 08/10/2018 16:28

My sister is 5'11 and rarely wears them. It's funny because whenever I see tall women I always feel they look so confident and model like. I am only 5'4. Maybe it's a grass is always greener situation.

Be confident with your head held high (no pun intended) and no one will be judging you, they will be envious !

ThunderInMyHeart · 08/10/2018 16:48

You’re already tall...what’s a bit taller?

I’m 5’7” and wear 4 inch heels. I do get what you mean about towering, but, fuck it. Let them deal with it.

NorthEndGal · 08/10/2018 17:12

My dd is well over 6 foot tall and she slays in heels.
She is already tall, there is no point trying to hide it, so instead she wears what she likes. Sometimes it is a pair of 4 inch heels, somet8imes it's sneakers.
Her boyfriend, who is around 5'8", is proud to be seen with her, heels on or no.

Elphame · 08/10/2018 17:20

5 10 here and I regularly wore up to 4" heels both for work and casual. Not so much now I work from home but they do still come out.

Tattybear16 · 08/10/2018 17:22

Buy those heels hun and enjoy them, life is way too short to worry about if you’d be too tall in them. Get them on and Beyoncé strut around.

OneEpisode · 08/10/2018 17:24

I only wear comfy shoes of any height now I have aging feet.
I always wore higher shoes when out with taller people-my dh or dd for instance.
When with my little friends or little sis I would aim lower to aid conversation,.,

3TresTrois · 08/10/2018 17:25

I’m 5’11 and often wear heels to work. Not towering stilettos, as I can’t walk properly in them, but a decent heel.

I’m tall anyway. I can’t pretend to be short. So I wear the shoes I like, and sod what anyone thinks.

Tallblue · 08/10/2018 18:06

I'm 5'10 and for me it all depends on how confident I'm feeling. When I was slimmer/fitter and felt more confident standing out in a crowd I was happier to wear heels. Can't get away from the fact that being super tall does draw additional attention.
A few stones heavier now and feeling generally down about myself I want to slide away into the background so I generally wear flats now.
So, it's not so much about what other people think- it's how you feel- if you feel good then go for it I say! Buy the boots!

Enko · 08/10/2018 18:10

5 8 and wear heels every day

specialsubject · 08/10/2018 18:41

Height irrelevant. Staggering heels and the arse out duck walk look a joke on anyone.

Have you seen how models waddle? Laughable.
