Robin always seemed to have a sense of humour.

Brad has a great sense of humour too. George agrees.

TeaStory · 06/10/2018 11:33

It doesn't matter whether it's 'real' or 'fake' - what do those terms mean exactly for this anyway? The art is in the reactions to it. Job's done, and done well.

Exactly.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 06/10/2018 11:33

Attention seeking arse.

Theyprobablywill · 06/10/2018 11:34

That's just what I was saying to Harry and Meghan.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 11:36

Publicity stunt/fake it doesn't matter. Job done I say! Here we are, talking about it! Amused or not, we are still talking about it and Banksy!
Whoever is the culprit is genius!

whoever the culprit is...

I’m wondering where Bansky sit legally there tbh.
If that shredder was on remote control, he has basically destroyed something that wasn’t his anymore.

If I was the buyer I would be very angry.

But as ‘normal’ person who will never ever buy a £1million drawing, I’m feeling just a bit sad to see what I saw as a beautiful drawing been destroyed.

MyBrexitGoesOnHoliday · 06/10/2018 11:44

And if the person responsible isn’t Bansky.... then I’m wondering who in eartnmsis that and why?!?

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 11:49

I said the same thing. If I was the buyer I would have cried. DP said, if you are spending £1mil on art work then you would understand the artist. This is a Banksy piece of work. An unpredictable artist. As a buyer at first you would be annoyed, but then probably say 'should've guessed' The piece is now worth more than it was.
If it wasn't Banksy who set this up, then I think I would be annoyed!
The buyer was a phone buyer! How was that news even broken to them!
Yes, you won the piece, oh, erm, ok, so there is a problem. The piece is well, shredded! Yeah congratulations!'

Frogletmamma · 06/10/2018 11:50

Banksy is a true genius. Shredders always jam on me!

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 11:53

😂😂

flumpybear · 06/10/2018 11:58

If it was remote control, Banksy must have been in the room! 😱

missyB1 · 06/10/2018 12:00

Yawn.... more pr for him.

Wanksy suits him very well as far as I'm concerned.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/10/2018 12:07

Crikey!

I'd be very annoyed if I was the buyer. In fact I just wouldn't pay for it. All of that is explained in the link. The buyer is NOT legally liable to pay for it. The auction house would be, but as this was a publicity stunt, they won't be! It's just another in a long line of Banksy'isms.

And I doubt he'd be bothered at it being destroyed. So much of his early work was cleaned off, co sit was nasty graffiti. Some of his best work disappeared under high pressure hoses!

It's just more of the same old same old, isn't it?

Momentarily shocking, funny, has a message whilst also being fairly meaningless!

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 12:09

Well I thought he might be in room, but is he that obvious...he could have got a friend to do it. His twitter post shows where the culprit could have been sitting.
His words are clever. 'Going going gone'
I believe it is a strong statement. There is meaning behind this stunt.

I preferred the KLF burning a million quid - way more radical man!

I'm sure Robin would agree Grin

ShatnersBassoon · 06/10/2018 12:13

I'm sure Robin would agree

Robin always seemed to be a fan of The KLF.

basquiat · 06/10/2018 12:19

Oh... Hi Robin ;)

madeoficecream · 06/10/2018 12:20

Great! Love Banksy.
Loved Dismaland.

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 12:20

Oh crap, you caught me!

OP posts:
glintandglide · 06/10/2018 12:22

I think it’s just brilliant. True art

madeoficecream · 06/10/2018 12:23

the KLF thing just made me very sad... no one really cared and they couldve done something with that money or given it to charity... I guess its up to them but it looked mean spirited not radical

I like this Banksy stunt better because its just a bit of cheeky fun and it engages a wide audience which gets them interested in art... suppose thats the message, his art is for everyone and not for private owners

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 06/10/2018 12:23

The piece is supposed to represent hope, innocence. He, in my mind is showing that hope and innocence is going and going at a scary rate. A rate that even money can't slow down. Money isn't the answer to the worlds problems. That is the way I see it anyway

I love this. So brilliantly mumsnet to be thinking about the legal position Grin

Whisky2014 · 06/10/2018 12:30

I would imagine the auction house, buyer and seller are all in on it IF there's no police involvement. Because as far as anyone knows this could be criminal damage. It could be a mastermind plot by someone else other than the artist and if that's the case surely there should be an investigation. If all this is just accepted by the auction house and buyer then there's definitely something fishy going on
