I find Tom Swarbrick has a pleasant and intelligent manner. I'm not so keen on Nick Abbot, and I don't understand the appeal of the lengthy pauses and strange noises. They don't add anything I think. I sometimes listen to a bit of Steve Allen and he's strange! I often wonder if he works off a script or makes it all up as he goes along.

Love Steve Allen and Ian Dale

PoptartPoptart · 05/10/2018 21:44

Nick Ferrari keeps me company on the way to work each day.

SillySallySingsSongs · 05/10/2018 21:47

Iain Dale and Shelagh Fogarty. I also like Majid Nawaz.

I agree about Nick Abbott those noises get right on my nerves.

Steve Allen makes it up as he goes along.

Steve Allen!!!!!!!

Boyskeepswinging · 05/10/2018 21:48

Moved over to LBC with Eddie Mair and I am loving it! What a breath of fresh air after Radio 4. What surprised me most is how much I enjoy Nigel Farage. I still don't agree with much of his politics but I love his energy, the breadth of opinions of his callers and the way he interacts with them. His opinions on the Tory Party Conference had me laughing out loud, I can't remember when a BBC presenter (apart from Eddie Mair) last did that.

I feel like I'm learning so much more by listening to the wide range of opinions on LBC compared to the samey samey bland voices that all the BBC presenters have.

Yoksha · 05/10/2018 22:00

Steve Allen. He's off the wall. And I love that funny little self-emphasising laugh he does. I listen in on most of the presenters. They've all got valid points that enlighten me.

But I do agree. I've learnt an awful lot of cross societal opinions. I can't stand BBC now. It's so boring!!!

cupofteaandcake · 05/10/2018 22:53

Love LBC esoecually Nick Ferrari in the morning, i like his sense of humour. The only one I can't stand is James O'Brien, he loves tbe sound if his own voice and he's been very rude to a few callers. I turn LBC off when he's on and then back on fir Shelagh Fogherty.

BrownPaperTeddy · 05/10/2018 22:56

Nick Abbott is my favourite. Like James O Brien, Majid Nawaz and Andrew Castle.

losenotloose · 05/10/2018 23:08

My favourites are James O'Brien and Iain Dale. Can't stand Nigel Farage and Andrew castle irritates me.

Ruffian · 05/10/2018 23:10

I really like Ian Dale even tho i'm miles away from him politically, I think he's very fair an intelligent. I like Matt Frei on there as well (if he's still there and hasn't been reshuffled?)Was a bit sad to see Clive Bull go, I really loved his gentle voice.

I cannot bear even 5 mins of James O'Brien and his horrible mangled accent and egomania. Majid Nawaz pisses me off with his constant boring attacks on Corbyn.

Rockbird · 05/10/2018 23:23

Has Clive Bull gone? I'm not surprised. He was wasted in the early evening. His skill was getting people to talk and a news show wasn't for him. I was listening to him back in the 80s.

MegGriffin · 05/10/2018 23:31

Iain Dale and Majid are my favouritesm however no one make me want to turn off.

MegGriffin · 05/10/2018 23:32

Favourites!

Ruffian · 05/10/2018 23:33

Oh, actually, looks like he's on at the weekends now. I thought he'd gone as Dale is in his slot. I used to really like the property hour and legal bod. I'll have to try to remember to listen tomorrow.

alwaysiero · 05/10/2018 23:34

I love Nick Abbot and James O’Brien always turn over when it’s Farage or Majid.

JacintaJones · 05/10/2018 23:35

Love Steve Allen! Wish he was on air at a more civilised hour.

DeadZed · 05/10/2018 23:42

I've really surprised myself by how much I enjoy Nigel Farage's show. He does make a great radio presenter.

In the other hand I have to turn over when Sheila Fogerty comes on. I find her irritating and impossible to listen to too.

I always like Clive Bull too. I miss his evening slot.

Spaceman67 · 05/10/2018 23:46

Nick Abbot is my absolute favourite. Followed by James O'Brien, Steve Allen and Majid.

Thymeout · 05/10/2018 23:48

I really like Sheila Fogarty. She's good with difficult callers and has expanded her range of political expertise since I first listened to her.

I used to like James O'Brien because he went into issues with more depth and had an original take on current affairs. But he's been v irritating recently. Needs taking down a peg or two. I. don't like the way he treats callers he doesn't agree with, just tying them in knots to show off his superior debating skills. Majid Nawaz can be a bit of a show-off , too.

Matt Frei is always worth listening to. But I can't understand why Nick Ferrari is so popular. He always strikes me as a bit thick.

I agree about the BBC. I used to listen to Radio 4 and Radio London, but I got tired of presenters always having to be impartial and giving too much weight to minority opinions, in the interests of balance. It felt like radio by committee instead of individuals with personalities.

Melfish · 05/10/2018 23:49

I love Steve Allen! I went to see one of his shows about 10 years ago. James O’Brien was the warm up act and he was droning on and on- we were all relieved when Steve appeared.
James O’Brien is too irritating to listen to, he sounds like a broken record and is quite rude to callers who don’t share his opinions. I have to leave the room when DH is blaring him out from the radio.
Clive Bull is great- he’s on from 6pm at the weekend. I’m sure he used to do a phone in a few years ago and he had regular callers who were pretty entertaining- one I think was a bloke called Larry who used to sing his own songs.

28282ooooh · 05/10/2018 23:53

Iain Dale (trying to get DD to bed at that time so dont listen as much as I'd like to) and James OB (listen when I am working from hm)

Ruffian · 05/10/2018 23:58

Agree they're making Radio 4 and 5 look very limited and conventional. 5 live is really terrible these days, so many shows with dual presenters 'bouncing off' each other in a tedious matey way or total lightweights like Nihal taking up hours of airtime with bloody boring interviews.

LBC can grate or make me cringe sometimes with wingeing callers but a lot of the time you get a proper blast of unfiltered public opinion and realise that many people out there are intelligent and informed and articulate.

Amaaboutthis · 06/10/2018 00:01

I adore James O’Brien, I don’t agree with everything he says but I can relate to so much of his life experiences and he’s such a bright and clever man.

I love Majid too, again a really interesting and intelligent person.

I’ve surprised myself as to how much I enjoy Farage, I expected him to dreadful but actually he’s very good, smart, calm and considered

goldiehawn1 · 06/10/2018 00:09

I absolutely CANNOT BEAR that awful James O'Brien.

He just talks over everyone and if you have a differing view you can be expected to just be drowned out completely with his patronising tone.

I also am bored stiff of his daily brexit rant. He appears to have nothing else to talk about.

I really like Iain dale who is calm, considered and fair. Nigel Farage is also a surprisingly good show and takes rap with good grace and a laugh. Nick Ferrari is good in the morning too but not keen on the Majid guy .

SarahBeeney · 06/10/2018 00:10

I like Beverley Turner but I have no idea when she's on,not very often!Maybe I can listen to her on a Podcast?
I also like James O'B and Shelagh.
