Just making a playlist for my 40th and although I have a pretty good selection already I need more songs for the end of the night. Lots of drunken people standing in a big circle dancing and singing together type songs Grin.

Bloody spellcheck.
Tamla Motown

Miladymilord · 03/10/2018 21:16

Omg

She's 40 not 65

I'd be thinking about going home if I heard the okey cokey and superman

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/10/2018 21:20

"Ooh Aah just a little bit" is an unexpected floor filler, I've found...

NigelGresley · 03/10/2018 21:58

Ah thank you Miladymilord, glad they were appreciated Grin

I realise this is just my opinion, but I agree a lot of the suggestions are “love them or hate them” type songs. I cannot stand:

I will survive
Sweet Caroline
Mustang sally
Rolling on the river

They are trotted our time and time again, undeserving of their top spot on pub and club playlists across the land, cliched, done to death, everyone pretends to enjoy them but inside they are rolling their eyes.
Sorry Confused

Rainatnight · 03/10/2018 22:00

Hey Ya, by Outkast. Banger.

VerbeenaBeeks · 03/10/2018 22:26

I'd be thinking about going home if I heard the okey cokey and superman

I'm 40 and bloody love Superman, what are you on about Grin
Release your inner child, next you know you might be knee sliding the dance floor haha

VerbeenaBeeks · 03/10/2018 22:28

Bit of Green Day. So people can pogo around to American Idiot and Basket Case.

beela · 03/10/2018 22:33

Following because I need to make a playlist for my 40th Grin

Violetroselily · 03/10/2018 23:03

September - Earth, Wind and Fire
Parklife
Turn Me On - Kevin Lyttle
Uptown Funk
Mr Brightside
Two Can Play That Game
Faith
Oops upside your head
Come on Eileen
Don't leave me this way

BBTHREE76 · 04/10/2018 00:35

Back to Life - Soul to Soul
White lines - Grandmaster Flash

PinkAvocado · 04/10/2018 00:59

Whilst rolling out some classics isn’t a terrible idea, my goodness many of these songs are amongst my most disliked.

40...so look at the top 20 from 1994 onwards. Songs that you partied and danced to in clubs in your late teens onwards will get peers up and dancing. Dancing Queen and YMCA would have me looking for the pineapple and cheese hedgehog on my way out.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/10/2018 01:20

Ok, OK, looking as a 40 year old which I am and not coming from a child perspective nostalgia wise.
That would make early to mid 90s you want to dance from.

Shamen Ebenezeer Goode
Corona Rhythm of The Night
Real McCoy Another Night
B52s Love Shack
Pulp - Mistakes or Common People

Cakeandcustard2018 · 04/10/2018 01:41

Any party I've ever been to had Loch lomond as the last song, everyone stood in a circle very drunk clapping along n as the beat got faster dancing like mad... Depends if your in Scotland or no tho ☺

Miladymilord · 04/10/2018 03:30

I'm 52 and 90% of these suggestions are cringe.

sofato5miles · 04/10/2018 04:12

Jesus Christ, it's not a 70th! We have a massive party every year and always have a few hours of dancing.

By the time it gets to the drunk stage:
ACDC
Faithless
Common People
Hung up Madonna
One Love David Guerra
Fat Boy Slim
Sexy Back
Scream & Shout Will. I. Am Britney
Lady Gaga
Franz Ferdinand
Cake by the ocean
So what Pink
C'mon Kesha
Mr Brightside

Mormont · 04/10/2018 04:32

Human - The Killers.

counterpoint · 04/10/2018 05:15

Many of the above, plus:

Girls just wanna have fun - Cyndi Lauper

Can't touch this - MC Hammer

Atalune · 04/10/2018 07:17

Please please please don’t play ah c’mon Eileen. It’s so so cringe. Ditto dancing queen, ymca.

Atalune · 04/10/2018 07:18

Superman song?? NOooooooooo!!!!
Cha cha slide, noooooooooo!!

You want a healthy balance of some cheese, not some naff night out at your grannies 80th down the social.

Miladymilord · 04/10/2018 08:10

Mustang Sally!! Envy (not envyl

I must hide this thread as I realise music taste is personal but I'm also fascinated by it in a horrible way

ManicUnicorn · 04/10/2018 08:24

Some of these choices are terrible! You want to be able to dance to them and have fun!

Billy Ocean -Love Really Hurts Without You
The Drifters- There goes my first Love
The Killers- Are We Human/Mr Brightside
Bon Jovi -Living on a Prayer
Take That -Never Forget
Kylie- Can't Get You Out of my Head
Abba- Dancing Queen/Mamma Mia
Village People- YMCA

CountessVonBoobs · 04/10/2018 08:53

Well this thread has taken a few hard lefts into "Knees Up at the Nursing Home".

The Hokey Cokey?! Agadoo???

counterpoint · 04/10/2018 09:31

How about ....

Zorba

..... if you're on holiday in Greece! Smile

Meet0nTheIedge · 04/10/2018 09:58

I'm quite a bit older than 40 and a lot of these would send me running home too, years and years of hearing 60s/70s/80s classics trotted out at parties to get people on the dance floor - enough! I really would go with 1990s onwards for the majority of the playlist, lots of good suggestions by pps.

Absolute no to Come on Eileen, Superman, Agadoo, Oops up side your head, locomotion, Grease, Timewarp, Monster Mash, Cotton Eye Joe, I will survive, Hi Ho silver lining and the like.

Titsywoo · 04/10/2018 10:12

Ha ha - how different we all are :) So I have about 115 songs, 15 of which are pre 90's (mainly 80's) then it's a mix of grunge (only a touch as a reminder of my youth!), brit-pop, pop, RnB etc. I've made sure the proper dancey stuff starts from about 10pm when people are drunk enough to go for it Grin.

Thanks everyone, it's helped a lot to get all your suggestions :) And I've deleted a few that many of you clearly hate as I was uncertain to start with and you all confirmed it (Cotton Eye Joe - what was I thinking?!).
