There is laughter in my house again.

Sorry, just needed to share.
We've had an awful couple of years with DS's ASD, mental health and school refusal. He's wanted to die and every day was full of violent meltdowns and us walking on egg shells trying not to set him off, DD has suffered greatly witnessing it all.
After a long battle with the LA he finally got a place at a SEMH school in September. 5 weeks in and we've got a different child. He's keen to go to school every morning, talks about his day positively and this last week our home has been filled with laughter again.
We were all in such a dark place I honestly thought we'd never hear laughter again.

So if anyone reading this is going through similar, keep going, keep fighting for what your child needs, it can get better.

I’m stupidly happy for a stranger on the internet. That’s wonderful, wheresmyhairytoe. As the ‘parent’ to a child with SN, I know how difficult things can be, so to finally have your child in a safe, happy place is the best feeling in the world. goes off to get tissue 💐

MrsMozart · 03/10/2018 08:31

OP, from someone who knows - your post had made my heart sing. I’m so pleased for all of you.

Cailleach · 03/10/2018 08:36

It just goes to show what a difference the right support can make for a person with ASD. I'm sure you've had to fight hard for it, OP, so well done to you.

If only there was similar support for us adults with autism...maybe one day.

itwillbealrightpromise · 03/10/2018 08:38

Long may the laughter continue Thanks

trackerc · 03/10/2018 08:43

What a fabulous post. I'm so pleased for you & all your family. It's great you can see the sunlight again.
Laughing is amazing, to hear it & to do it. You've painted a wonderful picture of a new dawn. I'm so happy for you. It's nice to find eventually the fight gets you the outcome you needed.
You've got good reason to celebrate. Well done xx

ALemonyPea · 03/10/2018 08:58

Lovely to read. It definitely helps having the correct setting for a child with SN. Long may it continue.

Verbena87 · 03/10/2018 08:59

I’m a teacher (have taught in mainstream and SEN schools) and you just made me weepy. So glad for you and your whole family - i’m not a blind idealist, but it really shouldn’t have to be so hard for all kids to get what they need to thrive. So many don’t, though, and it’s lovely to be reminded that it can and does happen.

Orchiddingme · 03/10/2018 09:00

Good on you for keeping fighting. Such great news for him and for you. My dd's comprehensive is very strict and I cannot imagine how someone with ASD could navigate it.
