How many hours sleep do you get a night?

And do you feel well rested throughout the day?

Just curious to see what works for others. I'm constantly exhausted and that's on 7 hours sleep 😴

Well, once I’ve stopped being shocked at how much sleep you get... I’d suggest getting your iron and thyroid levels checked. Or reviewing your overall stress level.
The last week, I’ve averaged 3-4 hours, some of it broken. Usually between 5-6.5, with medium to large breaks in the middle, depending on who wakes me up (dog/husband/child) and how long it take me to get back to sleep.

hedgehogboots · 01/10/2018 21:19

Usually around 8-9 hours. Pass out around 10/11pm then wake up around 7am with no alarm. Think my body is stuck in a rut from having kids! I’m never really that tired during the day and find myself refreshed in the morning. I’ve spent most my life with insomnia and it seemed to randomly correct itself so I’m luckySmile drinking lots of water and keeping on top of healthy eating has helped my energy levels loads

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 01/10/2018 21:20

I average about 7 hours a night and feel fine during the day (although hate waking up on dark winter mornings)

I can function on less if necessary but it definitely catches up with me if I go a few nights with significantly less

I like 8 hours but get about 7.5

amusedbush · 01/10/2018 21:21

I have terrible insomnia and have for several years. On average I get 4-5 hours of very broken sleep. I stopped wearing a Fitbit to bed because the sleep report was depressing Blush

I’m always so exhausted at bedtime that I have no trouble falling asleep, I just can’t stay that way! That’s why things like melatonin don’t work for me - I don’t need help dropping off Sad

8ish

gastropod · 01/10/2018 21:23

6.5 to 7 on weeknights and 8 or so on weekends. Usually function ok with that but would prefer 8 every night!

GreenMeerkat · 01/10/2018 21:23

I'm 8 months pregnant so at the moment I need about about 10 hours to function.

When I'm not pregnant I can usually manage about 6-7 without being a complete bitch bit narky the next day.

Pixie2015 · 01/10/2018 21:23

9-10 and always feel tired all the time x

umberellaonesie · 01/10/2018 21:23

7.5 hours asleep but in bed from 10pm till 7am.
I am exhausted but studying a full time degree (as in 46 weeks a year degree which is 50/50 theory and practical) with a 1h 45 commute there and back daily.
If I wasn't so tired from learning working travelling I would well rested.

Depends, some weeks 4-5 hours per night is normal (I go in cycles of waking at 3am).

Other weeks I'm knackered and in bed half an hour after the DC, (asleep by 9.30) and wake around 6pm so 8 ish hours.

Steelesauce · 01/10/2018 21:27

5-6 hours of broken sleep. Damn kids.

PerditaNitt · 01/10/2018 21:28

8 is my ideal amount and I wake up feeling refreshed. I’m currently on about 5-6 due to a 3mo plus an early rising toddler.

Definitely get a blood test to check iron levels. Also, see if certain foods are impacting your energy levels; some things may make you feel more sluggish. Shame that the weather is turning because I used to find an evening stroll would help me to sleep more deeply and wake up more refreshed

Dontfeellikeamillenial · 01/10/2018 21:28

Around 8.

Which is enough, I suppose

TomHardysNextWife · 01/10/2018 21:29

Usually asleep by 11pm and wake around 7am... but often wake 3/4 times for the loo in the night. Most nights I go straight back to sleep but last night I was wide awake between 3 and 5 am.... so am already in bed tonight. I need at least 7 hours to function next day.

Runoutofgas · 01/10/2018 21:30

About 4-5 hours at the moment - a 6 month old that wakes every 2 hours and a 2 year old that gets up at 5.30am. Permanently exhausted!

GMtoBe · 01/10/2018 21:30

4-6 hours in short chunks on average. My 11 month old has always been a bad sleeper. I'm exhausted.

PinkBuffalo · 01/10/2018 21:32

I'm currently working on between 3-5 broken hours a night. It's Been bad this year, but beyond my control. I'm seriously bereaved and also have my mum who requires 24hr care so I'm frequently up in the night on top of that. I would be in bed now, but can't go until I've taken mum to bed. Been up since 4am for work...
I feel quite unwell to be honest. My Drs been useless telling me to"relax and rest" when I have a stressful full time job on top of everything else! I won't have mum living with me in the new year, so might try going back to the GP when I don't need to listen out for her Sad

FrightsaidRed · 01/10/2018 21:37

8-9 if none of the kids wake me up. Always in bed by 10/10.30pm and up at 7am. I’m not very nice without my sleep and I guard it jealously after 3 kids, one of whom liked to wake us every 45 minutes for 3-4 hours each night screaming like a banshee for no apparent reason. As he got older it was frequent nightmares. Somebody stayed over once and asked what on earth was wrong for him to scream like that....there was no warning cry, just a sudden murderous scream. Thankfully he’s grown out of it. 10 hours would be my ideal. I’m lovely on 10 hours.

TokyoSushi · 01/10/2018 21:38

Around 7.5, usually from 11ish until 6:30ish, I'm not usually too tired in the day.

I do catch up at the weekend though and rarely get up before 9:30, fortunately the DC are slightly older now and DH is an early riser!

FrightsaidRed · 01/10/2018 21:39

@jonty 7 hours wouldn’t be enough for me and I think my iron levels are fine. Everyone is different. My BIL has only ever needed 6 his whole life but that would actually kill me!

HalloumiGus · 01/10/2018 21:42

6.5ish at the minute. I feel much better on 7+ so planning an earlier night tonight.

RedPandaMama · 01/10/2018 21:43

Varies so much. Probably 6 and a half hours average which is slightly too little for me. 7 hours and I feel brilliant, but if I go over 8 hours I feel lethargic and tired all day so I guess you can sleep too much! Not that that happens often since I have a not-great-at-sleeping one year old. Some nights I get 4.5-5.5 hours if she's having one of her 'middle of the night parties' and I feel so ill the next day. I don't work well on lack of sleep.

So in answer - 7 hours is optimal, for me.

theboxofdelights · 01/10/2018 21:47

7:30 minimum, I like 9 or 10 at the weekend if I can get it!

Means I am not often up after ten o clock in the evening, my alarm goes off at 5:53am.

I have pernicious anaemia which can affect my sleep pattern .... not good.
