How many hours sleep do you get a night?

And do you feel well rested throughout the day?

Just curious to see what works for others. I'm constantly exhausted and that's on 7 hours sleep 😴

I get 5/6 hours usually but sleep very lightly , I never get to sleep before 1ish which is probably due to the fact that I worked nights ( part time) for over 20 yrs . I’m not generally tired during the day and am pretty active. I had to stay up all night for a night last week and went to bed for a couple of hours in the day where I slept really soundly and it was probably as beneficial as the 5/6 hours I get overnight .

JulietteGrimm · 02/10/2018 00:07

5 - 6 on a work night, 8 - 9 at the weekend. I think the recommendation is 7 - 8 hours for optimal health, so I'm about right, though it should be more evenly spread.

JulietteGrimm · 02/10/2018 00:09

Oh, and I feel pretty tired at the moment, but that's cos I haven't done any exercise in two months. When in a proper routine of jogging three times a week my sleep is enough for me to feel refreshed.

6 is a good night. And on that note, I must attempt to 💤

Foenie · 02/10/2018 05:25

4-5 hours trying to fit in a full-time job with childcare and lots of extra 'life admin' at the moment.

AGHHHH · 02/10/2018 05:40

I usually get 6-8 and I always feel hungover when I wake up (without drinking) and tired as soon as I get going.

haverhill · 02/10/2018 05:45

Only 5 last night (woke at 4) but I am menopausal so that’s actually pretty good as it was unbroken.
I have recently experienced acute insomnia caused by anxiety and it was absolutely awful.
I can function ok on 4 unbroken hours and find oversleeping makes me lethargic.

Dychmygol · 02/10/2018 05:54

2-3 hours of unbroken sleep is amazing for me. A typical night sees me allowing sleep to come in phases over 6 hours before I give up and get out of bed for the day.

I'm permanently exhausted but sleep and I have never been good friends. I've been like this since I was a fit and healthy teenager too so can't even blame age/weight/stress/kids/technology.

Vitalogy · 02/10/2018 05:59

I've now started classing 5 hours as a good night. I feel ok though. I usually nip in a nap on days off.

PhilomenaButterfly · 02/10/2018 06:01

5 and a half hours last night, and no, I'm already tired.

AGHHHH · 02/10/2018 06:25

Tonight it's 2-3 hours. I woke in the middle of a night for a drink, reached out and ended up pouring a carton of iced coffee on my face because the lid wasn't on properly.

I've been awake since. 😭

MaverickSnoopy · 02/10/2018 06:29

I average about 8.5 hours. I wake feeling tired but generally alright through the day. 9 hours is my optimum amount of sleep.

I've always needed a lot of sleep, even as a child. I was probably the only teenager who went to bed at 8pm.

If I regularly sleep less than 7 hours I get unwell - full on sore throat and cold etc.

My eldest DD is just the same though.

YeOldeTrout · 02/10/2018 06:47

Yesterday morning, I think it was about 3.5 hours combined total. I felt decent until 4:30pm (& then didn't feel awful). Still couldn't fall asleep again until 11pmish.

Last night was therefore about 6.5 hours & I feel pretty good right now. About to go swim 1.8km. Probably get 4-6 hours most nights & manage very well on that. I can do two nights in a row on 2-3 without feeling dreadful. I love sleep, it just doesn't come to me. I reckon I'm amazing to manage on so little.

Sallystyle · 02/10/2018 06:52

It all depends. I have long bouts of insomnia.

For me, it isn't so much the hours but what time I wake up. I had to get up at 5.40 this morning and I probably slept for 6/7 hours. I will feel shit faced all day. I manage much better on the days I get up around 9.00 but still had 6/7 hours sleep.

CarlottiJames · 02/10/2018 06:57

@GreenMeerkat you're 8 months pregnant and sleep for 10 hours a night?! How?!!! I'm so uncomfortable I'm lucky if I get 3 😩

loveisland · 02/10/2018 07:05

I feel best after 8 hours, although life with a toddler is a different game.... have the odd blip, went to bed at 9.30 she hit her head on the bed midnight then decided to wake up at 3 as she "needed to check toys" little monkey Grin

PickAChew · 02/10/2018 07:11

Surely iced coffee is not the ideal nightstand drink?

AGHHHH · 02/10/2018 07:12

@PickAChew you're right it's not, it was just part of a meal deal that I didn't end up drinking [santa]

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 02/10/2018 07:15

After years of feeling shattered mid afternoon, I've now organised it so I can have an hours nap at 3pm then I'm good to go till 10:30pm and sleep until 6am usually so 8.5 overall.

GreenMeerkat · 02/10/2018 07:16

@CarlottiJames I don't actually know. Just lucky I guess. I do wake up for the loo at least once and a couple of times when shifting position but get straight back to sleep again.

URaflutteringcunt · 02/10/2018 07:20

6 because I’ve got a baby and a toddler but DP and I alternate lay in days at the weekends so get about 10 then!

witherwings · 02/10/2018 07:30

About 7-8 depending on when I go to sleep. My body seems to naturally wake up after about 7ish hours. When I do sleep, it is usually a good 7 hours of deep restful sleep so I feel rested in the morning.
My husband dreams every night and seems to need loads more sleep because of it.
I very rarely dream.

mizu · 02/10/2018 07:34

Oh I would love a mid afternoon nap, sounds fabulous.

I get around 8 or 9 hours a night. Can't function otherwise. No idea how I got through the early years of having children Grin

Try to go to bed around 9-10 pm on a week night, get up 6:30 ish. Always hate getting up and could sleep longer. F/T teacher so full on job all day.

Minniemountain · 02/10/2018 07:36

Depending on when DS gets up 6.5-7.5. My ideal is 7.5 hours.
