I pass undigested food like this at least weekly, I've being put on urgent go see a gastroenterologist at my local hospital but closet appointment is 20 week away, I'm so desperate for a scan and I have no idea what to do, it comes out of me like this at least 6 times on a bad day, and towards the end there is a bit of blood, I'm terrified it's cancer, please reassure me.

Have you kept a food diary? I get similar (though without blood) and in particular when my diet's been less good. So think junk food/greasy food. My symptoms seem to point towards IBS, but I'm barely suffering so I've never bothered getting a diagnosis.

Velourpine · 01/10/2018 07:51

What is your diet like? My movements get like that when I’ve been eating like crap for a while, coupled with horrendous stomach ache. Eat more fruit and veg and fresh foodsSmile go to your GP if you’re concerned though!

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 07:55

My diet is mostly healthy lots of fiber in a vain hope to stop this passing of food, I have a takeaway at least once a week but that's it, I barely eat chocolate and only have bread once a week too as it's not worth the pain it causes.

Also I've being to my GP as I said who has referred me to a gastroenterologist urgently but the appointment is so far away and I'm in so much pain 😢

OP posts:
acatcalledjohn · 01/10/2018 08:15

Right. Ditch the takeaway food. My worst culprits for your picture are:

Spicy chicken wings
Takeaway pizza
Toby Carvery (I'd be doubled over in agony, desperate for a loo 20 mins after leaving)

But like I say: keep a diary. You'll probably find foods that show up on a regular basis. Eliminate them and go from there.

Since I significantly reduced the intake of the above-mentioned foods in favour of home made meals I've noticed a vast improvement. The pain is not as bad and it doesn't last as long.

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 08:20

I get pain after I eat anything though, no matter how big or small or how healthy or junkie, something plain like chicken and rice can hurt the same as a Chinese takeaway once it hits my small intestine

Could be IBS. Which isn't much reassurance sorry, IBS is rotten.

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 09:47

I don't think it's IBS as I've had plenty of blood tests and I think IBS can show on blood tests? Sorry if I'm wrong.

OP posts:
thaegumathteth · 01/10/2018 09:57

IBS doesn’t show on bloods. IBS is basically what you’re diagnosed with after a process of elimination of other causes.

BlueRoadSign · 01/10/2018 10:00

First thing I would try is to cut out the obvious triggers: try gluten then lactose. Just been through this myself, so I share your pain.
My diagnosis was lactose intolerance and ulcers.
The blood test was probably for inflammatory markers which would rule out IBD, not IBS.

Lweji · 01/10/2018 10:04

Lots of fibre is more likely to irritate your bowels and lead to diarrhea.

I'd cut on fibre, eat more rice and increase foods like yoghurt, maybe even take bacterial pills that are sometimes given after courses of antibiotics.

But you should always see a doctor for proper advice and rule out any problems.

Missedmoments · 01/10/2018 10:05

I’d do three things while you are waiting for your app Op.

  1. Have s look at the FOD MAP diet. Very effective for IBS IF it is that.
  2. Take two digestive enzymes after your bigger meals. They will help you to digest your food properly.
  3. Take three flax oil capsules a day. One after every meal. That will bulk up your stool without causing constipation. And lastly try and relax. Hard I know but the bowel is so sensitive to emotions in some people it’s worth trying. Ps. I’m not a medical professional but I’ve been given the above advice by someone who specializes in gut health. It worked for me. Good luck!
Lweji · 01/10/2018 10:05

Ups, sorry, should have read properly. You've been to the GP.

seagulldown · 01/10/2018 10:06

I have similar symptoms and been diagnosed this week with chronic constipation with overspill diarrhoea. Wasn't something I'd ever heard of but have a Google and see if that fits at all. The Dr did have to explain in detail as obv the constipation bit sounds crazy when you have loads of watery poo!!! Good luck.

MilkComa · 01/10/2018 10:09

Fibre gives me diarrhoea with the worst culprits being bran type products like Weetabix and shredded wheat

SchrodingersMeowth · 01/10/2018 10:10

I don’t reallg digest food, I usually throw it up but sometimes it gets through and most comes out just completely undigested too. I have gastroparesis and am not allowed fibre. If you’re struggling to digest food then fibre and fat is your worst nightmare. Try cutting them out while waiting for the gi.

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 10:23

My gran has crohns disease so I'm kinda scared about that, cutting out food would leave me with nothing to eat as I get pain from anything and I already weigh just 6 stone and I'm 5'10 so cutting down anymore would probably kill me, I'll Google some of the causes you have all listed, thank you everyone

brokenharbour · 01/10/2018 10:32

I had similar last year, went on for around ten months and then went away. I had colonoscopy etc, couldn't find anything wrong. Any cheese or fatty food just went straight through undigested, you could see the actual food in there, it was dreadful!

I had been on naproxen for a while for a heavy duty ear infection so I thought it might be something to do with that. I'd also lost two and a half stone of baby weight very quickly after getting fed up with it and I wondered if id completely messed up my system. Have you lost a lot of weight recently on purpose?

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 10:37

I'm sorry to hear your going threw the same thing it's awful, no infact I'm trying to gain weight but it's extremely hard I can loose pounds in a week if I have a bad attack of this diahrea

I have similar issues after eating fat....My gallbladder isn't working properly. No stones, it just isn't pumping out bile very well these days. Looking back though, I don't think it ever did work particularly well as I've had similar issues since I was a kid with rich food.

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 11:08

My friends mum had a problem with her gallbladder and she had surgery, cant you request surgery? I hope you get well soon

TheSerenDipitY · 01/10/2018 11:36

like Blue said try eliminating foods... start with gluten then try lactose and then try animal fats... i cant do eggs, any dairy or animal fats... stomach cramps, and in as little as 45 mins i can be on the loo and a lava waterfall rushing out my butt, and if i try to hold on it seems to get very acidic ( maybe because it has raced thru me so fast its dragging the stomach acid with it... who knows) and then i can get a bit of blood, sometimes im on the loo what feels like a million times a day, and what sets me off can be different from day to day...

ohtheholidays · 01/10/2018 16:47

I would go like that and had the blood and lost weight very quickly and I was diagnosed with UC(Ulcerative Colitis)I was seen very quickly though and kept in hospital for the day.

Start making a nuisance of yourself, keep on at your Dr's and the hospital because there is no way you should be kept waiting 20 weeks!

starkid · 01/10/2018 16:55

I'd go on a low-residue diet and avoid non-soluble fibre, see if that helps at all. And make sure you keep up liquids.

The blood is a bad sign though. Not to freak you out, especially if you've had blood tests which you'd think would show something up, but I have Ulcerative Colitis and my body was doing this for a few weeks, then it steadily got worse until was happening around 10 times a day and got admitted to hospital for emergency surgery.
So please continue going to your doctors/asking for tests, and if you start losing a lot of weight/getting lethargic you need to be firm about wanting to be looked at sooner. I had a -supposedly-emergency colonoscopy booked in with one hospital, and by the time I got the letter from them confirming a date, I'd already had to have surgery elsewhere.
Good luck xx

GloGirl · 01/10/2018 16:58

I know someone who suffered a lot and was eventually diagnosed with Bile Acid Malabsorption.

Not sure if it's similar to you but she was grateful of a diagnosis! Good luck with your appointment, maybe they can find a cancellation for you Flowers
