I pass undigested food like this at least weekly, I've being put on urgent go see a gastroenterologist at my local hospital but closet appointment is 20 week away, I'm so desperate for a scan and I have no idea what to do, it comes out of me like this at least 6 times on a bad day, and towards the end there is a bit of blood, I'm terrified it's cancer, please reassure me.

Ah @ohtheholidays got there before me!

I also just saw you already weigh 6 stone- that's already very low. Did you tell the doctors you have crohns in the family? They usually act more if you tell them that as it is genetic. Don't wait the whole 20 weeks!

EleanorLavish · 01/10/2018 17:11

OP, I’m a nurse, and please think carefully.
Cutting out food groups, especially gluten, is not wise unless you are under medical assessment. You need specific blood tests whilst you are consuming gluten, and then again when you have been off gluten.
My friend did not realise this and went gluten free as she was miserably ill all the time. She was like a different person, so well, when she went gluten free. Went to the GP, who said well you’ll need to go back on gluten for 6 weeks so I can take relevant test. She was unable to eat a single meal with gluten, she became so ill. So has been unable to have an official diagnosis.
I have a son with severe ulcerative colitis. It could be that, it could be Crohns, it could be Ibs or any number of other things. But no one here can diagnose you.
You sound ill, underweight (is this very recent) and if I were you I would be down the GPS pushing for an earlier appointment with specialist, or looking in to an initial private appointment.
But please be careful about taking strangers advice on serious health issues off the internet ( myself included, I know!).
Look after yourself.

AlmaGeddon · 01/10/2018 17:43

I think if I was you I'd go back to doc and tell him you can't eat anything as it gives cramps, or some such tale, and ask for an earlier appointment. Failing that I would fake a faint and cramps and call an ambulance as a way of getting seen sooner. No way could I survive 20 weeks of worry!

Please do not fake a faint and call an ambulance. You will not be seen ‘sooner’, they will see you are awaiting an urgent app. and tell you to wait for it.
Has your GP done any investigative bloods OP?

brokenharbour · 01/10/2018 18:04

If you're losing weight it does sound more serious than my issue. It really sucks, hope you get a diagnosis.

SpoonBlender · 01/10/2018 18:07

Have you looked up the low-FODMAP diets? Evidence based as working to reduce IBS, got some big ups early summer from studies, not a fad thing. Example info here - www.health.harvard.edu/diet-and-weight-loss/a-new-diet-to-manage-irritable-bowel-syndrome

TheOrigBrave · 01/10/2018 18:29

With a BMI of 12 I am surprised you have not been hospitalised and given IV nutrition.
Are you really only 6 stone?

hussherbye · 01/10/2018 18:37

Maybe bowel disease- ulcerative colitis?

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 19:07

Okay back from work sorry guys for the delay yes I do only weigh 6 stone but as doctors know im eating outside of the hospital and looking after myself best I can also my last blood test was fine all my levels except my iron were fine but I'm on iron tablets, other than the cramps, diahrea and weight loss I'm a picture of health

OP posts:
Toffeerose · 01/10/2018 19:13

Do you get an increased amount of pain after taking your iron?

starkid · 01/10/2018 19:15

Cramps diarrhoea and weight loss are pretty major altogether though. Definitely fight for quicker tests and a colonoscopy I say xx

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 19:22

No I didn't all though my symptoms seemed to decrease when I had a cold last week if that means anything, unfortunately I can't its the soonest I can be seen at my local hospital (I don't have a car), trust me I've fought and argued haha

frankiethepanda please do not start cutting things out of your diet until you have been seen by a specialist.
My DH has Ulcerative Colitis (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) which started with symptoms like yours and he lost weight - he couldn't stand the pain and GP (on his third visit) ended up sending him to the surgical assessment unit at our local hospital even though he was waiting for an outpatients appointment. He was admitted and had colonoscopy etc and was put on drug regime and steroids to reduce inflammation.
He is on permanent meds now.
A few years ago our DS started with similar symptoms - it was over Xmas and I was very worried as he wasn't eating well, losing weight, terrible diarrhoea etc. Dr sent him to hospital assessment unit too - he was put straight onto drips as he was dehydrated from the diarrhoea and intravenous pain relief. He was diagnosed with Crohn's disease.
Apparently if there is a family history of Inflammatory Bowel Disease there can be a link - you said your Grandparent has Crohn's.
Please return to your GP ASAP and get him to refer you straight to hospital - if it is inflammation of the Bowel it needs to be treated as soon as possible.
Explain to your GP about your Grandad having Crohn's and do not let GP put you off.

ohtheholidays · 01/10/2018 19:39

Frankiemy ulcerative colitis only got spotted because I'd been so ill I was rushed to hospital and given a colonoscopy the same happened to 2 of my friends that found out that they have Crohn's disease.

Honestly don't let them leave it 5 months, you may not have either condition but if you do you do not want it left for 5 months they're both very serious conditions and left untreated can leave you with life long health problems.

I hope it's not anything serious but you need to know one way or the other.

starkid · 01/10/2018 20:05

Yep same as above, wasn't diagnosed until sent to hospital by a doctor and did a colonoscopy, then emergency surgery the next day - trust me you don't want it left that long! With your BMI and family history as well they should be taking this seriously (I was always skinny too and would say oh that's just how I am, always have been - have put weight on now I've tackled my colitis though!).

My doctor did put me on steroids just in case it was crohns or colitis first of all to see if the condition improved, so that may be an option for you? (I was too far gone for them to help enough to avoid surgery sadly).

TheOrigBrave · 01/10/2018 21:00

BMI 12 is not just skinny, surely it's impossible to function at that low weight. You cannot be a picture of health.

Changedforpost · 01/10/2018 21:02

I have IBS and flares look like that. And the pain is unreal. Coffee, chocolate ,dairy , takeaways.. basically anything nice tends to make me badly during a flare.

Maursh · 01/10/2018 21:10

How long have you had this condition for? Is it new? DH has this owing to a casein allergy, he had it for years and years and they couldn't diagnosis it. It turned out he cannot tolerate anything with milk, not even a drop and they add milk to the ost surprising things (canned fish eg)

I suggest, until you see the gastro specialist that you go on a very plain diet to give your digestive system a break - avoid meat, dairy, gluten, alcohol, refined sugars, anything processed. Plain whole foods, high fibre, low starch. Don't go low fat since this is very bad for the gall bladder if this is the issue (although I think that is clay coloured stool).

Maursh · 01/10/2018 21:18

Sorry, I have just seen the Crohn's bit - the advice above is correct, that you cannot be tested for allegies for anything that you are not currently taking.

Have you always been six stone or have you had weight loss recently? Do you have a history of an eating disorder? Also, what type of iron tablets since some are very hard on the stomach and will exacerbate GI issues.

cathyandclare · 01/10/2018 21:22

DH has Crohn's, before he was diagnosed he managed to stave off two attack's with probiotic supplements and Yakults and Actimel type things. I'm a doctor and there is some evidence for the benefits of these. He also takes omega 3 supplements and eats oily fish. He's been controlled without medication for several years, could be a coincidence but worth a try?

frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 21:30

Obviously I look and am very slim what I ment was my blood levels are fine

OP posts:
frankiethepanda · 01/10/2018 21:32

No eating disorder I've being cleared by a very high up specialist in EDs. My weight loss is all due to whatever condition I have. I only take one iron tab a day for that reason I don't want more pain.

frankiethepanda · 02/10/2018 10:34

I've rung my GP and the doctors going to give me a ring tomorrow, really hope I can wrangle a sooner appointment
