Can you reach all your teeth with your tongue?

Ok, not a TAAT but inspired by the 'how many teeth' thread.

I was wondering earlier when some posters said they didn't know, why they didn't just count with their tongue, but I just asked DH and he says he can't reach all his teeth with his tongue?

Is this a thing? Do I have an over-flexible tongue? Does he have some sort of tongue tie?

I can reach right into the where my jaws join together with the tip of my tongue.

I an reach them all but not sure I could reliably count them all. Molars have bumpy sides so I can't be sure whether my tongue is feeling one or two.

Will have a go though. Watch this space . . .

ohellio · 30/09/2018 21:41

I can reach them all but counting...not so much.

Unescorted · 30/09/2018 21:42

I can... But count them over the top so I can tell if it is a lump or a gap.

Yes

BalloonSlayer · 30/09/2018 21:43

Ok I counted 24. I think I had 4 teeth taken out before I had braces. And I had one wisdom tooth removed so it should be an odd number I ended up with. Aren't you supposed to have 32? This means I missed 4.

So, in my view, it is not possible to reliably count your teeth with your tongue when you have had three glasses of wine

JennyOnAPlate · 30/09/2018 21:43

Yes I can reach them all. I have 30 teeth.

Stephisaur · 30/09/2018 21:43

I can reach all mine.

I’m counting either 20 or 21. I had 2 pulled when I had my braces done, and I have 2 unerupted wisdom teeth at the bottom. It feels like I might only have 1 wisdom tooth at the top

Nacreous · 30/09/2018 21:44

I can reach them all, and count twenty eight plus a single half exposed wisdom tooth.

Stephisaur · 30/09/2018 21:44

Have just counted with my finger and got 27

Glaciferous · 30/09/2018 21:45

I just counted. I think I have 28 teeth. Can this be right? Everyone else seems to have fewer teeth than I do. I don't have any wisdom teeth.

BusySittingDown · 30/09/2018 21:45

Yes, I have 31. 😬

Sohardtochooseausername · 30/09/2018 21:46

I can’t believe I have never tried counting my teeth with my tongue before! I have 28. Makes sense as I had all my wisdom teeth pulled out.

Glaciferous · 30/09/2018 21:47

Oh good, other people have 28 teeth (plus wisdoms). I was thinking I was a bit overtoothy there for a bit.

Anoisagusaris · 30/09/2018 21:47

Yes, easily. I can reach every surface of each tooth.

I can count them easily too. I just run my tongue along the backs of them and can feel each individual tooth.

I’ve only 28 teeth though (4 removed due to overcrowding before I got braces). So maybe that makes it easier?

birdsdestiny · 30/09/2018 21:48

Can you imagine if you sent a text to one of your friends saying can you count your teeth with your tongue. I love MN.

BalloonSlayer · 30/09/2018 21:49

Just counted with my finger and got 27.

Allowing for the four I had out for braces plus the one wisdom tooth I had removed takes me to 32.

Just shows I do not have a very talented tongue . . . Hmm

Frlrlrubert · 30/09/2018 21:51

Not being able to count bumpy teeth makes sense. I have a could them I guess I might count twice. Though from the other thread maybe most people spend less time thinking about their teeth than me, I do worry about my gums a lot, so probably poke around teeth with my tongue more than normal.

It was the not being able to reach them bit from DH that I thought was weird, but I'll wait for more replies before I tell him he's weird!

You're 'meant' to have 32 if you have all your adult teeth including wisdom (I only have one erupted wisdom tooth).

OP posts:
FadedRed · 30/09/2018 21:53

Normal adult dentition = 32 teeth. It is not particularly unusual for 8th molar(s) (wisdom teeth) to be absent or not erupt completely

Can you reach all your teeth with your tongue?
BusySittingDown · 30/09/2018 21:55

I have 3 wisdom teeth. Are you supposed to have 4? I have room for them - I have a big gob!

artio0 · 30/09/2018 22:00

I can reach all my teeth with my tongue. But counting them is a bit difficult, I can feel several at once especially at the front and then get confused what I've already counted and what not lol.

LemonysSnicket · 30/09/2018 22:24

Yes, with ease

LemonysSnicket · 30/09/2018 22:25

I have 31 btw. Technically 33 if you count the unerupted wisdom tooth and the extra canine hiding in my gum x

Penguinsetpandas · 30/09/2018 22:27

Can easily feel them but don't think counting is right - got to 20 and have them all except 2 wisdom.

DramaAlpaca · 30/09/2018 22:28

Yes, and I can count them.

ClangerTwanger · 30/09/2018 22:28

I have 32. Counted with fingers because I got it wrong with my tongue even though I can reach them all 🤷‍♀️ I’m glad someone said 32 is normal because I wasn’t starting to feel like a shark or something 😂

Mommy shark doo doo doo doo doo doo.....
