My cat can tell the time.

We usually go up to bed at 10, after feeding the cat. Tonight I've been a bit delayed and I'm still sitting on the sofa. The cat has just run in and is trying to pounce on my ankles to force me up. How does he know it's 10pm? He always does this if we stay downstairs later, it's not a one off.

My childhood cat knew when it was 3pm and would meet me out of school.

RandomMess · 27/09/2018 22:02

Our girl glowers from 9pm!!! Has done forever. Cuddles all evening then from 9pm becomes stand offish and gives the look.

Boy cat has no clue and we have to round him up!

Mine always knows when it's 1pm. She demands her dinner.

HoleyCoMoley · 27/09/2018 22:04

Yep, they know when it's 4am as well, time to get up for the day. My cat used to sit at the door waiting for me to come home at the same time every day.

HemanOrSheRa · 27/09/2018 22:04

My girl cat knows when it's 3pm too Mayor. She likes to go out and sit on the front garden wall at 3 ready for cuddles and fuss from the children walking home from school. They don't start appearing until about 3.15 but she likes to go out prepare for her audience Grin.

trevthecat · 27/09/2018 22:07

Our Trevor knows it's time for his tea. Always 5pm even if I've not had work. He is like an alarm clock!!

MrsTommyBanks · 27/09/2018 22:11

My cat is frighteningly accurate regarding meal times.
My dog starts nagging me to bed at 8pm.

Bezalelle · 27/09/2018 22:12

My younger cat takes himself off to bed to wait for me if I'm still up after 10pm.

8FencingWire · 27/09/2018 22:14

My cat has told me off today for taking too long drying my hair. I was off, so spent a bit more, not rushed like normal in the mornings. He waited for me to finish then gave me a proper telling off, complete with glaring over one shoulder on his way out. They’re crazy!

BlueEyedBengal · 27/09/2018 22:15

My old black and white cat used to come in the bedroom at 3 am and play hell ( he could open the door clever puss that he was) until we let him out every night for 10 yrs. if we put him out at bedtime he would make a right racket until we let him in always at 3 am. We lived in a bungalow so he'd be there on the window sill singing away. One summer we had the window open as it was a very warm night when we heard him coming up the path closer and closer louder and louder he came, then jumped in the window chewing on a still live mouse . My husband had to chase him round the room and back out the window that was swiftly closed. Guess what time that was? 3 am of course

TooTrueToBeGood · 27/09/2018 22:17

I work from home and my dog comes in and pesters the hell out of me within minutes of me going past my usual finishing time.

DiveBombingSeagull · 27/09/2018 22:19

We have a timer cat flap that I have programmed to allow them out at 6am. From 5.55am both cats are poking the door trying to get it open.

Catspyjamazzzz · 27/09/2018 22:21

Mine goes to bed at 10.30am and comes to wake me at 7am.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 27/09/2018 22:21

DDog can tell the time too - even when I'm working from home I start getting pestered for walkies at 5.30pm

He's also able to recognise the difference between weekends and weekdays, presumably by the change in routine. I don't want to entertain the idea that he might be reading a calendar!

sirmione16 · 27/09/2018 22:24

Our cat starts meowing and pestering us 30 mins before feeding time exactly. Every day.

Cats run massively on routine, and food is their number one priority so no surprise really Grin

Mine waits for me to come home from work by the front door.

I got a lift home once and was back 20mins earlier and in the house sorting dinner. I then saw her sitting by the front door waiting for me.

I used to think she was there all day waiting for me, but she's so cleaver that she only goes into position at 5.40pm Grin

mrswarthog · 27/09/2018 22:25

My last cat knew when it was 8:10pm & all little people were abed, so would appear from nowhere to sit with me on the couch. EVERY night. After he died aged 20, I couldn't go into our living room for months.

Nissemand · 27/09/2018 22:27

People can do it too I think.

It's a bit like instinctively knowing which way north is, or knowing when someone is looking at you.

Sorry10 · 27/09/2018 22:31

My cat knows when I'm home it's time to be fed like when I'm at work all day I feed her as soon as I come home. Trouble us when at weekends if I nip out for 30 mins or a hour she thinks it's time to be fed and will meow constantly even though it may have been a couple of hours since last fed.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/09/2018 22:32

Chedder decides that she needs to start making biscuits on me at 4.30 am every morning! I wouldn't mind but as she's awaiting the groomer to clip her claws it's rather painful!

Cindersdonegood · 27/09/2018 22:38

At 6pm every single day two of our ponies would stand at the back door and kick mud from the field to get our attention for their jam butties. 6pm. On the dot. Every single day.

Honestly we wondered if they could hear the Home and Away theme tune on the telly!

UnleashTheBulsara · 27/09/2018 22:45

My cat wakes me at 6:15 every morning.

Sometimes it's 6:13, sometimes it's 6:18ish. Either way, I get The Paw and a small wail.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/09/2018 23:44

I don’t think my cat is so routined. He recognizes the sound of our car

A few years ago I was walking back from a night out and had taken my shoes off as my feet were sore. As soon as I turned into my road my cat was running towards me meowing. How did he know it was me I was alone. If I had shoes on he may have recognized my footsteps. He was very pleased to see me Smile

FromThe80s · 27/09/2018 23:49

I had a cat as a child and we always kept her indoors at night. If I let her out in the evening I'd tell her to come back at 21:30, 22:00 or whatever and no matter what time I said, she'd appear at doorstep at that exact time!
