My cat can tell the time.

We usually go up to bed at 10, after feeding the cat. Tonight I've been a bit delayed and I'm still sitting on the sofa. The cat has just run in and is trying to pounce on my ankles to force me up. How does he know it's 10pm? He always does this if we stay downstairs later, it's not a one off.

Car-sitting for DM, every morning there would be a scratch on the bedroom door at exactly 7.45am. On opening the door, Dcat would be sitting smartly with a look on her face that clearly said, “Just to remind you, I'm perfect and I'll have breakfast now, thank you."

We have automatic feeders and one of our cats will go and sit by one about 2 mins before his 8pm meal every day. Just the 8pm feed... none of the others. I can only assume he reaches a specific level of hunger and knows it's time as we don't do anything at that time to trigger him.

When I used to manually feed and feed time ran late he would prompt me by repeatedly hitting the cupboard door open with his paw.

Our cat knows when it's 4pm...his dinner time! And will very loudly let us know it.

My dd's cats recognise my car, even when I park on the other side of the road and they're fast asleep at the back. They're always in the hall when I visit. My dd has seen them apparently out to the world, prick up their ears, and rush out of the room. They're an early warning for my arrival.

I feed them when dd is away and have trained them with a chicken treat to turn up and be counted. I can't visit now without rewarding their welcome, whatever time of the day.

I always used to joke with my mum, many years ago, that my cat could tell the time.

He used to go out some time in the afternoon and one day I said to be in by x o'clock. He was in a couple of minutes before the time. So every afternoon after that I'd test him by saying a different time each day, sometimes giving him 2 hours, sometimes 3 or 4 hours. He always came in within 5 minutes before the time I said. It was a bit freakish and we have no idea how he did it. It's not like he had 2 hours a day and got used to coming in after being out for the same length of time each time, he came in at the right time after being out for different lengths of time, just weird. Was useful when we were going out and needed him in for a certain time but he wanted out, just told him the time to be in and he'd always return before we left.

NDNs cat has befriended us. She knew the sound of our old car and would come running out of the long grass over the road when we came home. Having changed our car it sounds completely different and within a few days she was getting used to it, comes over when we arrive home now. She also comes in for scraps of meat, cheese etc. (Have checked with NDN if we can give her treats etc.) and knows roughly when we eat in the evenings to come get bits of chicken etc. before it goes in the oven. If we don't eat at the same time she still turns up at the same time, works out there is no 'human' food and sits in front of the cupboard in the kitchen where we keep a stash of treats for her. This also happens to be the cupboard above the fridge so if we go into the fridge for something she looks in for some ham or cheese, she knows exactly where we keep the things she likes. NDN thinks she has a variety of neighbours houses she visits for treats, unfortunately we are the only person who checked with them so they don't know how many people are feeding her. They have seen her sitting in a window of the block of flats over the road though! She also turns up in the mornings before going to school and afternoons when we arrive home from school. Goes crazy about 10 pm and if she's around our house wants to play. She has routines and habits and comes across as pretty intelligent.
