Washing Machines.... Miele, Bosch, Samsung?

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 10:36

So my washing machine has died. Rather boringly I would like some recommendations for a good replacement.

The bastard that just broke on me was a hotpoint, it only lasted 2 years. So I am prepared to go upmarket a bit, but is it worth it?

I have a Samsung which has just broken 3 months after its 5 year warranty expired, I'd have said it was great, but I'm a bit put off now it broke so close to the expiry. It was only £80 to fix though so not too bad.

I asked my washing machine man what brands he recommended and he said the beko 9kg. You can get one on coop electrical for £219 if you look around for discount codes.

scaryteacher · 27/09/2018 10:39

AEG, mine has been fantastic and survived 3 moves in 3.5 years, and the very hard Belgian water. My Mum has had her AEG for years now and it's still going strong.

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 10:40

Thank you, that’s interesting about the Samsung. How annoying for you.

I will google the Beko, not familiar with them yet.

Thanks Scaryteacher, I shall add to my list!

I just bought a new washing machine as ny Bosch packed up after 20 years. Went to a local supplier who recommended a Siemens that had been reduced to the same price as the Bosch. Delivery and installation free, but the salesman did say that the £199 Beko was a wonderful machine that they have had no complaints about it at all

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 10:55

The repair people have just offered a Bosch 8kg with delivery and installation tomorrow for £456 including the £60 call out to tell me my old machine is dead. Does that seem reasonable? I am so rubbish at this stuff, get terrible buyers remorse!

I am really put off by Bosch, my last one died after 2 years. That was a cheaper one though, I believe the more expensive ones are better for reliability. What warranty does that come with? If it is only one or two years I'd seriously consider replacing with a beko.

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 11:00

2 years...

I’m not convinced tbh. I am tempted to go with the cheapest Miele, the have 5 years warranty with John Lewis. But £699 it a lot of money Confused

Very happy with my Samsung Ecobubble - copes with most stuff on the daily programme which is 105 minutes.

flapjackfairy · 27/09/2018 11:06

Currys have got the Grundeg washers on offer and I have just had one of them. They are German v robust and solidly built and cost 380 with a five year parts labour and call out warranty and a 10 yr warranty on the motor.
They have great customer reviews and so far v pleased. I have had Bosch and Miele and managed to kill them off as I do ridiculous amounts of washing so didn't want to spend a fortune.
And best of all I had nearly 600 in credit with Currys due to know how insurance cover on the Bosch so I have a gift card with the balance on to buy something else ! Win win .all round.

randomsabreuse · 27/09/2018 11:09

We have a bottom of the range Miele - been going strong for 8 hard years - just hated by removals men as it weighs about a million tonnes.

Olinguito · 27/09/2018 11:13

I'm very happy with my John Lewis washing machine, and prefer it to the Bosch I had previously.

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 11:15

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am researching like a mad thing! Turned down the Bosch offer. It wasn’t great and I think they were trying to get rid of some stock!

My Siemens was less than that so it doesn't sound like a great deal. On AO the Samsung was about 379 but you need to add on the delivery, installation and getting rid of the or machine charges which was £55

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 11:23

It’s so depressing, I think of what this money could buy for Xmas! Bloody stupid essential household crap!

I had a Samsung for 10 months and it was utter shite. It was repaired three times and was really noisy despite being advertised as 'quiet'. I have just bought a Miele and the difference in quality is astounding. I'd buy the Miele. I have come to the conclusion that it's better value as I'm expecting to replace it much less often and better for the environment as I'm not sending numerous appliances to landfill.

SymphonyofShadows · 27/09/2018 11:28

My ancient Miele packed up about 4 years ago, so I got a specialist engineer out. It was beyond economical repair so he told me to look at Bosch, Neff or Siemens and not to bother with Hotpoint etc. I went for Bosch and it's still going strong.

IndigoSpritz · 27/09/2018 11:31

I'm on my second Indesit. The first was brand new and lasted about twelve years. This one is a reconditioned second-hand model and has been going for the last six years. It might be worth finding a local independent engineer who also trades in used machines, as I did.

Sammy867 · 27/09/2018 11:31

I have a 6 year old Samsung eco bubble washer dryer and have found it really good. Never had any problems; the boil waah is really good, I generally use the outdoor clothes wash as it is 1hr at 40 degrees, 6 minute quick wash if something got a bit mucky and a 1hr wash/ dry aswell

Furrycushion · 27/09/2018 11:33

We have a Miele & have had no problems yet (3 years). It started off incredibly quiet but is a bit more noisy now. Some of the programmes don't seem to rinse that thoroughly so I have to use a lot less powder than is recommended & I sometimes have to do a further rinse.
The problem with saying "I've had an X branded washing machine for 20 years" is that most of them aren't made to such good quality now, so even if you had s Bosch that lasted 20 years, you next one won't be as good. Hotpoint really aren't built to last! These things were what I found out when I was researching & why I went for. Miele with a 5 year warranty.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2018 11:46

I had the same question a few months ago and went with cheapest Miele. Been happy with it but shopped about and got a bit cheaper but not much.

Growingboys · 27/09/2018 11:48

Miele are amazing. They have a one-hour programme and a 20-minute quick wash, and I barely use anything else.

They get your clothes SO clean.

Marv1nGay3 · 27/09/2018 11:48

We have a Miele. It came with a 10 year guarantee. It’s fab. Would definitely recommend.

BackToTheFuschia7 · 27/09/2018 11:58

I’ve heard Miele have poor customer service if you have a problem.

I’ve had a Bosch for 2.5 years and nothing mechanically wrong yet. It’s used at least once but often 2-3 times a day. It does have a separate plate at the bottom which vibrates and drives me a bit mad. But my parents also have a Bosch without the plate at the bottom and theirs is really quiet.

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 12:01

A real mixed bag of experiences. I think it’s all a bit of a gamble.
