Washing Machines.... Miele, Bosch, Samsung?

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 10:36

So my washing machine has died. Rather boringly I would like some recommendations for a good replacement.

The bastard that just broke on me was a hotpoint, it only lasted 2 years. So I am prepared to go upmarket a bit, but is it worth it?

I work in estates and the Miele's last forever as a general rule. They are considered best on the market.

I don't have the spare cash though so I have a Samsung which works well. We had a few locations with Beko's and they seemed to break quickly.

Furrycushion · 27/09/2018 12:12

@Growingboys, do you find it rinses the soap out on the one hour programme? It's that one in particular where I get left with soap suds, whereas with the two hour one I don't. Given that you rinse & spin again is another 30 mins, I might as we start out with 2 hours & have done with it! I tend to put it on the timer to be done for the morning.

I have a nearly ten year old Miele washer dryer and it has always been brilliant. Probably do 8-9 loads a week (as it’s a washer dryer it’s capacity is a bit small). Would definitely recommend and rebuy the same brand based on our experience...

Neshoma · 27/09/2018 12:27

Got this from Argos. Free delivery. £250. On sale at £224.99 atm.
Has 155, 59, 40, 30 and 14 min washes and more. The 14 min has been brilliant having teens who want something washing pronto.

I recommend Beko. Bought a cheap one 7 years ago and only just got rid (sold on) recently as the colour no longer matched my kitchen. It had been used several times a day most days and never gone wrong.
After much reading up we went for another Beko. They offered the best value, especially for bigger drum sizes and was one of the very few that had quick wash option that you could use a full load on. So far so good!

Beeblot · 27/09/2018 12:34

We have recently bought a Siemens after having been in the same situation as you. The washing machine engineer who delivered the death certificate on our previous machine said that he would always buy Siemens or Bosch. Miele are good quality but you can't get a normal repair person to repair them as they only sell spare parts to authorised repairers, who charge more for their services. Worth bearing in mind. I'm also never buying another John Lewis machine after both our last 2 died just outside their 3 yr warranty.

MaisyMary77 · 27/09/2018 12:37

I’ve had a Miele washing machine for six years now, no problems apart from a build up of limescale, (my fault) their customer service department was fantastic and they had someone out the next day. Impressive as it was over the Xmas period! They were also great when I broke my coffee machine and when dh managed to pull the cord out of our vacuum cleaner.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2018 12:44

My beko was shite. Everyone seems to have different experience though. We went for the Miele based on the fact that it uses German parts and is built in Germany. The cheaper Bosches use Chinese parts now which is same as whirlpool etc now. So, formally good brands now built to be disposable. At least with the £200 ones you know upfront that it's disposable.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2018 12:47

I'm mostly using the 20 minute/30 minute short half loads. Stuff is definitely cleaner as DH thought I'd used a whitening sachet on his t-shirts. Also seems quite gentle on the material.

insancerre · 27/09/2018 12:50

I got the cheapest meile and take love it
Customer service is pretty good
The delivery man said it was the rolls Royce of washing machines
Ive had it 5 years and its still going strong

OddestSock · 27/09/2018 13:11

We went with the cheapest machine that had a 5 year warranty in currys when we bought last year & got a Grundig. I don’t know much about washing machines but I figured if it works 5 years then breaks we’ve had a good deal out of it.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 27/09/2018 13:13

insancerre I wonder if we had the same delivery man, he said that to me too Grin

yolofish · 27/09/2018 13:16

we've had Miele and Bosch, both not brilliant and we spent a fair amount on repairs over 18 years or so. Gone for Beko washer and dryer now, absolutely brilliant and cheap as chips.

queencrunch · 27/09/2018 13:19

I had a Samsung for two years. Died almost to the day of my guarantee running out. So I managed to get an aeg on sale and the difference is huge. Quieter, quicker, and a much better machine

user1484830599 · 27/09/2018 13:22

I just cannot fathom spending so much on a washing machine. For the price of a Miele, I'd want it to load and hang it up for me after too Grin. Each to their own of course though.

SymphonyofShadows · 27/09/2018 13:31

My old Miele lasted 15yrs. They end up costing far less than a cheap machine in the long run.

magimedi · 27/09/2018 13:45

My last Miele lasted 20 years & 5 moves & it sat in a garage for 6 months at one point.

My new Miele is about 12 years old now & I've had no problems with it at all.

I always go for bottom of the range as really only use about 3/4 programmes.

ToadOfSadness · 27/09/2018 14:43

Our last Bosch was crap and only lasted 3 years. Had an Indesit before as we rented the house out and that didn't last any longer.

Replaced Bosch with a Samsung, recommended on MN and it was awful. I wanted a drum large enough to wash a duvet. Had already had a failure with Beko due to AO not being able to fit the pipes because they were the wrong ones so that was never fitted and went back. So the Samsung was next, it bounced, literally off the floor, shook the whole side of the house from top to bottom, things falling off worktops. It turned itself round to one side and moved away and across the room.

It was reset, it was fiddled about with by the installers, when they left it was just as bad, just moved in a different direction. Apparently it is a problem with Samsung because they are tested on concrete floors and that is what they stay still on, although I can't verify this.

I sent it back and sadly ended up with another Bosch which I am treating with great care in case it goes wrong. I hate Bosch because the door creases fill up with suds, even on a rinse only.

I saw lots of Miele ones reduced to clear, which isn't a good sign as far as I am concerned.

Read every single review you can find, and also search for faults on Google for whichever one you think of buying before you get one, it will save you returning it or finding you have a dud.

ToadOfSadness · 27/09/2018 14:45

Do consider that if you are buying a new Miele/Bosch, whatever, when people say how good their older one is, you will not be getting the same quality as they were when the older ones were made because things have moved on and nothing is made to last now.

guessmyusername · 27/09/2018 15:27

I had a Bosch for 14 years. Before that a hotpoint which wasn't as good. Current one is a 9kg AEG which I like and had it now for 8 years.

fascicle · 27/09/2018 17:02

If considering a Miele, worth looking at some of their reviews:

uk.trustpilot.com/review/www.miele.co.uk?page=2

I would not buy one again. Quality of the machine and their customer service not what I anticipated.

flapjackfairy · 27/09/2018 17:38

The sales lady in currys said bosch are not built to the same standard any more. She demonstrated by showing us a bosch with no door as she had picked it up by the door to move it and it promptly fell off. She did the same with the Grundig and it didnt flinch. It feels a v solid machine like bosch used to be but the bosch i looked at now felt v plasticky in comparison to a few years ago.

laramara · 27/09/2018 18:11

My Miele is excellent, must be at least 12 years old and works as well as when it was brand new, it has never broken down, highly recommend.

insancerre · 27/09/2018 19:26

Mumoftwo
😂
I bought mine from curry’s in Blackpool

kaytee87 · 27/09/2018 19:41

We have a Bosch which I love
