Washing Machines.... Miele, Bosch, Samsung?

Mrsemcgregor · 27/09/2018 10:36

So my washing machine has died. Rather boringly I would like some recommendations for a good replacement.

The bastard that just broke on me was a hotpoint, it only lasted 2 years. So I am prepared to go upmarket a bit, but is it worth it?

We have a Miele that was £1600 and while it washes very well and is massive and v quiet, it has had an engineer out twice in 3 years, all under warranty but still....

GrannyHaddock · 27/09/2018 19:44

Had our Siemens for years: it's never really gone wrong. Sometimes it stops in the middle of a programme but pressing the button gets it going again. The best we ever had, by a long way.

Whyiseveryonesoangry · 27/09/2018 19:52

I recommend Mila too.
Mine is around 8 years old now and still going strong. I love the short wash programme!

DinosApple · 27/09/2018 20:21

My Hotpoint has lasted 15 years... But has now given up the ghost. Reading the reviews, it honestly seems so much like pot luck to get a decent machine.

We can't decide between going very cheap or expensive. I'd heard positive stuff about Beko and negative about Bosch.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/09/2018 20:39

Dinos - we had a Whirlpool that lasted the same, used to have a brilliant name but we knew the new ones weren't the same. We went for the cheap and cheerful option of a Beko, really good reviews and it was rubbish. we got 2 years out of it but for most of that we had to muck about with it, doing separate rinses, it really never ever rinsed properly, programme options were good and it was great being able to select the temperate/spin speed for every programme but we ended up replacing it with a basic Miele. Been really happy with it so far. Not as fancy pancy as some machines but it washes really well.

Mine is a Siemens. I've had it 14 years & it's still going strong. I bought it on the recommendation of a repair engineer who told me to go for a basic version of a good brand as if a machine has fewer bells and whistles there's less that can go wrong. So I did, and he wasn't wrong. It's a real workhorse.

FreeButtonBee · 27/09/2018 21:18

Ive had my Miele for 11 years. 3 kids including twins. Hard London water. It needed a small service/part replacement a couple of years ago which a Miele engineer came and did for about £120. Still going strong. I almost wish t would pack in now as I’d like one with a higher spin rate than the top spin of 1200rpm. But it’s fine and has a 90 degree wash which I love fore whites and vomit covered towels...

MargaretDribble · 27/09/2018 21:40

I agree with the posters who say new machines are not up to the quality of the older ones. Our washing machine engineer said that is his experience.

Mrsemcgregor · 28/09/2018 06:34

So what I really need to buy is a time machine, then I can go back 10-15 years to when they last built decent machines Grin

Grin Me too!

Waxon - thank you for that we'll head more expensive.

B00dyM4ry · 28/09/2018 06:46

Whatever brand get one with lots of quick washes. I used to be wedded to Bosch but the cycle times were so very long.

I have a fabulous Vanussi - has a quick wash button that cuts all the main programmes down to 30 min- 1 hr. I rarely used a longer cycle and everything is clean. I can easy do 3 loads in a morning.

Flatasapancakenow · 28/09/2018 07:07

We have a 12kg Samsung Ecobubble. The drum size was very I portent for me as we are soon to be a family of 6 including a football mad DS and two messy toddlers plus a dog and lots of chickens.

It swallows anything I put in there whole. Turtle mats, duvets and pillows rugs etc. I also love being able to do all our weeks washing in 2 or 3 loads. It really does save us a lot of time and effort. It has a good range of programs and a 5 year warranty. For the money I laid I could have gotten a Miele, but their largest was 9kg, and apparently the repairs can be hugely expensive. To get a 10 year warranty on the Miele I would of had to have spent around £1400/1600 which I just wasn't prepared to spend.

I did think about a lot and do a lot of research.

MargaretDribble · 28/09/2018 10:01

Ooh that sounds good Flatasapancke. Are the outside dimensions a lot bigger? We are a family of 4 adults and a dog but I can do eight loads a day sometimes.

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/09/2018 10:17

I think ours is technically a 7kg but as the was can be as little as 20 minutes for a half loads, I can do all my washing, in nice separated loads, in an hour or so.

OutPinked · 28/09/2018 10:20

We have the Samsung eco bubble and it’s great but it sings to you when it’s finished which is a bit fucking weird.

hamabr86 · 28/09/2018 10:31

OutPinked It does seem to go on for ages haha. I do wonder why it's necessary.....

flapjackfairy · 28/09/2018 10:38

I do find endless nagging bleeping at the end of a cycle v annoying. My new one doesnt do that just a couple of polite quiet ones then shuts up.
But another annoying thing . Why dont the doors open straight away ? Why the delay ? Some are a few mins and it is annoying when you want to pop washing out before going out yourself. Whats that all about ? P

WaxOnFeckOff · 28/09/2018 11:17

The Miele opens straight away. The beko used to drive me demented. I think it had a sensor that waited until you walked away before finally releasing the door.

MrsJayy · 28/09/2018 11:20

I have had my LG for 8 years ive never had a bit of bother with it except a burst seal it is the best washing machine i have had

StandardPoodle · 28/09/2018 19:10

I had a Whirlpool which became so loud (bearings - sealed unit so not replaceable) that it had to go after 2 years.
My bottom end of the range Miele is 3 years old and I got a 10 year warranty with it. Very pleased - and it tells the truth about how long it still has to go before it's finished. If it says 2 minutes, it is 2 minutes!

Growingboys · 28/09/2018 20:08

Now you mention it Furrycushion I do get suds in the door seal at the end of the one hour wash.

It doesn't really bother me though.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 28/09/2018 20:16

We bought a Bosch about 3 years ago. It's fine. The programmes are long but we have a "speed button" which you press and it halves the time. We have really hard water but we've not had any problems with the Bosch so far.

Ontheboardwalk · 28/09/2018 20:17

Cash back on Bosch from John Lewis and you can extend your warranty to 5 years with them for £100

I got a Bosch from them last year and it’s the best machine I’ve had

Ontheboardwalk · 28/09/2018 20:20

Oh and my washing machine was damaged in transit. Between Bosch engineer and John Lewis I’d had the machine inspected by the engineer and a new one delivered in 5 days. Fantastic service.
