Can anyone help me remember what these 2 tv dramas were called?

One is about multiverse/many worlds/multiple dimensions. It’s about an author, or a writer of some sort, who isn’t very successful in our world, but somehow gets into a different dimension, where he’s very successful and rich and has an indoor swimming pool. I think this one is a one off tv drama, possibly bbc. That’s all I can remember about that one I think

And the other one was about a working class man (possibly from Yorkshire?) who meets and starts going out with a very upper class woman. She coaches him in how to appear upper class to her family and friends. I can remember a bit where she manicures and pedicures him (just a file, not gel nails or anything). There’s also a bit where he talks to her posh friends in his real accent and tells them what he really thinks of them, and they’re all shocked, but then he passes it off as a joke and pretends he’s just doing his northern bloke impression.

I’ve been trying to find out the names of these 2 for a while, so if anyone has any ideas I’d be really grateful Smile

Rough idea of age?

Molokonono · 26/09/2018 23:17

Second one - Vince and Penny? Just Good Friends?

SlowlyShrinking · 26/09/2018 23:19

I think the first one was probably 90s, and I think it was shown as part of a multiple universe season on the bbc.
The 2nd one was late 80s early 90s I think

Penny wasn't uc was she?

SlowlyShrinking · 26/09/2018 23:21

God I used to LOVE just good friends! But the one I’m thinking of was more of a serious drama. Probably adapted from a book, in 6 parts, that kind of thing

I can't help but just good friends was great!

SlowlyShrinking · 26/09/2018 23:29

Yes it was!

No but I really like the sound of both of them!

SlowlyShrinking · 26/09/2018 23:55

Yy Enid they were both brilliant!

Actually the first one was probably early 2000s, sorry

Is there any chance that the one with the bloke who wasn't posh and embarrassed to be Northern one of either of these shows

Reckless with Robson Green

Pure Wickedness with David Morrissey

Both were about posh married women having an affair with a "bit of rough"

ALongHardWinter · 27/09/2018 01:44

Was the second one ''The upper hand'?. It was a sitcom with Joe McGann and Diana Weston. He was (I think) a male nanny and she was his boss.. I'm pretty sure Honor Blackman was in it too. It was on in the early 90s.

Bluesheep8 · 27/09/2018 06:05

The upper hand, I'd forgotten about that. Kelly Bright (Was on strictly and plays Linda in eastenders) was the blonde daughter....

BretonStripe · 27/09/2018 06:13

I used to watch The Upper Hand, 2.4 Children and Goodnight Sweetheart in the 90's Smile

cheaperthebetter · 27/09/2018 06:16

Is the second one " good night sweet heart"? With Rodney trotter? Out of only fools and horses?..Sorry can't remember his really name 🙈

BikeRunSki · 27/09/2018 06:24

Second one definitely sounds like Just Good Friends.

BikeRunSki · 27/09/2018 06:26

First one could be “Goodnight Sweetheart” although I am not sure that Nicholas Lyndhurst’s character was an author.

SlowlyShrinking · 27/09/2018 09:08

Hi, thanks everyone for replying!
They were both serious dramas rather than long running sitcom type things. I think Nicholas lyndhurst played an antique dealer in goodnight sweetheart didn’t he, which meant he could get amazing genuine antiques in perfect condition, or was it old records or gramaphones or something like that? 🤔 used to love GS too. Those were the days!

The upper hand! 2.4 children! Totally forgotten about these too. Used to love these. Brittas Empire anyone?

SlowlyShrinking · 27/09/2018 10:25

Hopeful bump Smile

It was the golden age of TV!

DolorestheNewt · 27/09/2018 10:29

Was the second one a BBC drama with Prunella Scales and Timothy West?

SlowlyShrinking · 27/09/2018 10:34

No I don’t think so Dolores. The characters/actors would have been young I think (20s) and the woman was really really posh and upper class/rich, a really completely different social class to the man, she wasn’t just middle class

SlowlyShrinking · 27/09/2018 10:35

They were people who just never would ever have met normally. I wish I could remember more about it 😞
