If you are one of those people who are nearly always cold what do you wear to keep you warm?

The older I get the colder I seem to get(50). I layer up. I've already got the thermals out. Where I work is always cold .are there any really good base layers/ socks that actually work?

today at work it was.... 3 prs socks, lycra leggings under jeans, 2 cotton tops under a thick winter lycra cycling jersey under a big jumper, neckbuff, gloves, hat. And that was probably 20 deg. C from 8am. I started work chilled due to a cycle ride & did strip some of it off before going home at 4pm.

I know you're asking for clothing, but I found that when I'm 'cold to the bone' cold, I drink 2 cups of hot chocolate or cuppa soup. Instantly makes me a little warmer. Other than that, I aim to keep my head, feet and hands as warm as possible. Fluffy socks, hat and warm gloves though I always struggle to keep my hands warm. Trying to keep warm from the inside out works much better for me.

I’m the same, following with interest. For last couple of years have worn thin uniqlo down jacket under my winter coats or rain mac (they have sleeveless versions too that go down to Mid thigh). Also like their Heattech thermals. Otherwise I wear thin scarf (cashmere pashmina type) most of the time and keep them in strategic places for unexpected cold (drawers at work, laptop bag etc). It’s a genuine affliction!!

YeOldeTrout · 24/09/2018 21:35

I had many large mugs of tea today, too.

BumbleNova · 24/09/2018 21:36

Wool layers. Lots of them. Merino in particular, it's not itchy and it keeps me toasty. I've tried other types of thermals, so much better. Plus cashmere socks are the business. I usually wear sheepskin boots slippers.

Squ1ggle · 24/09/2018 21:37

I've just ordered some sheepskin insoles to keep my feet toasty as last year my toes went completely numb way too often! I've also ordered some fingerless gloves from turtle doves which are made out of recycled cashmere

Waterlemon · 24/09/2018 21:38

I like the uniqlo heat tech range, they are really thin, so easy to layer under clothes. They keep me warm yet I don’t seem to overheat when I’m inside somewhere warm.

QueenRefusenik · 24/09/2018 21:38

Heattech stuff from Uniqlo. Really works and it's nice and thin so you can fit it under even quite close-fitting normal clothes. Then layers, layers, layers! Also layer socks - I have thin thermal socks from m&s that work well under normal ones without being too bulky. They work well in bed too! Merino wool is another good tip but pricier.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 24/09/2018 21:44

Nothing. Nothing keeps me warm, no matter what I wear or how much of it. I am missing the lovely hot summer weather already - but even then, it needs to be over 25c before I start to warm up. Sad

Randomusername01 · 24/09/2018 21:45

If my feet are warm the rest of me isn't too bad but if my feet are cold it's an impossible task to get warm so good socks and decent shoes. Also electric blanket which is on all night as well.

demotedreally · 24/09/2018 21:49

Bodywarmer puffa sit up. In the house

2BorNot2Bvocal · 24/09/2018 21:50

Knee length wool socks. Thick thermal leggings from TKMaxx. Wool trousers/skirts. M&S Heatgen vests. Wool jumpers. Find of the year last winter was thermal wellies for watching DS play sport.

TheNoodlesIncident · 24/09/2018 21:55

Same here, Greebo, at 21c the cold gets actually painful. I'm going to look into the Uniqlo stuff though, my current thermals just aren't up to scratch when the temperature really drops.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/09/2018 21:56

Apparently it’s important to keep your wrists warm where the blood flows closest to the surface. I’ve got some lovely soft wrist warmers that seem to help.

LittleMissedTheSunshine · 24/09/2018 21:58

Cashmere cardigan, duck down gilet, zip up fleece

Miladymilord · 24/09/2018 22:00

bellyband

Coldallthetime · 24/09/2018 22:02

My nose gets cold in bed and I was struggling to keep it warm. I kid you not, I have knitted a nose warmer. Grin

fruitpastille · 24/09/2018 22:09

Wrist warmers (mine are Anne Falcke ones from Amazon), Zippo hand warmer in my pocket, sheepskin boots for slippers, scarf. Wheat bag/electric blanket at night. Being active helps too.

widgetbeana · 24/09/2018 22:15

The key I have discovered is wrists, feet, head and upper chest. If I keep those warm I'm pretty good. The wrists make a real difference to me. Long gloves or fingerless gloves make a bit difference to me. Also my uggs are my saviour, my feet stay warm now, which never used to happen. I hate how they look, but function over fashion.
I don't like hats, I feel I look weird in them, but I've got one I can at least put up with, again it helps.

Also make sure you put these things on before leaving the house. Don't age them in pockets for just in case, by the time you are cold enough to want them, you are already cold. Warming up is much harder than staying warm.

widgetbeana · 24/09/2018 22:16

Hahaha, if I'd just rtft I would have noticed the wrist thing!

SandraTheBee · 24/09/2018 22:20

Thank you. Sorry to all fellow sufferers! Yes my extremities get cold. Today at work my feet got very cold, I couldn't concentrate because they were so cold. I invested in an icebreaker merino thermal and it's no better then my cheapie ones.i have a gilet but need to invest in a better one. Right merino socks and the unipolar thermals. I feel like such a wimp 😟

I was back at the chemist last weekend stocking up on balmosa, few times a day on feet then thick warm socks. Last year really helped with the chilblains, hoping this year if I start early I won’t get any 🤞🏻

EarlyModernParent · 24/09/2018 22:23

Silk is amazingly warm-silk long johns, blouses, and scarves are great for layering. Cashmere socks are wonderful, but they don't last very well. And a fleece or will blanket over your knees when sitting down.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/09/2018 23:00

Well the wrist warmers have kicked in, my fingers are lovely and warm. I’ve also wrapped a wool blanket over my legs and now I’m baking. Grin

nada2106 · 24/09/2018 23:10

My feet seem not be able to warm up! Any recommendations for the warmest possible socks, please. I'm getting more and more desperate with this cold weather.
