If you are one of those people who are nearly always cold what do you wear to keep you warm?

The older I get the colder I seem to get(50). I layer up. I've already got the thermals out. Where I work is always cold .are there any really good base layers/ socks that actually work?

I have a very irritating insect bite on my left wrist, so can't cover it up, have to leave it cold. (sigh).... tbh, keeping my neck & ears warm are among the most effective. Ankle covers good for keeping feet reasonably warm, too.

SandraTheBee · 25/09/2018 06:37

absolutely to keeping the next warm. Off to buy some (more) wrist warmers. I only have one.

So glad it's not just me! Spent all day in a meeting yesterday directly under the air con absolutely freezing whilst all the men in the room kept saying how hot it was :(. Am going to immediately buy wrist warmers and uniqlo layers! Like pp I loved this summer as I felt 'normal' all the time. I'd forgotten about having freezing fingers and nose IN the house. For feet i recommend those heat holder socks over normal socks in doors and for boots outside i have neoprene sole liners.

Wearing warm hiking socks, and always keeping the ankles covered, will help cold feet.

I wear 2 pairs of hiking socks when visiting the Arctic in winter, and I'm really prone to having feet like ice.

My feet never get cold in my ugg boots. I have some cashmere mix leggings that I wear under trousers in the coldest days. Cashmere cardigans and a down jacket.

Miladymilord · 25/09/2018 07:14

I spend a lot of time outside. I swear by a pair of decent socks then a plastic bag then another pair of socks!! Then wellies. My feet are never cold. And the Japanese tummy warmer thing.

DinosApple · 25/09/2018 07:14

The only thing to keep my feet warm are sheepskin boots. Ive got fluff lined leggings to try this year and my mountain warehouse thermal tops do fairly well. On top of that I have long sleeved jumpers and a fleece. There's no heating at work so I also have wrist warmers, a scarf and hat.

LizzieSiddal · 25/09/2018 07:15

Agre with this ... The key I have discovered is wrists, feet, head and upper chest.. Hats are really important and make a huge difference!

sansouci · 25/09/2018 07:17

Layers. Peel them off when you're too warm, pile them on when you're cold.

MadMaryBoddington · 25/09/2018 07:28

A silk scarf tied round the neck is astonishingly cosy without the bulk of wool. I also just treated myself to this zip up dressing gown from M&S - sexy it is not, but I swear it is the cosiest thing I have ever worn! www.marksandspencer.com/fleece-long-sleeve-dressing-gown-with-belt/p/p60178548?image=SD_02_T37_2291G_T4_X_EC_90&color=GREYMIX&prevPage=plp&pdpredirect

SargeantAngua · 25/09/2018 09:29

Reading with interest as I'm struggling with cold feet and cold aching knees at the moment. I'm in bed with fluffy socks on and my feet are still tingly and cold!

Trethew · 25/09/2018 09:33

M&S Heatgen thermals, full set of long sleeved vest and brushed leggings under everything else. Come in nice range of colors/patterns.
And wrist warmers, they work surprisingly well especially if you have long arms and get a gap between cuff and fingers

BishopBrennansArse · 25/09/2018 09:35

I'm a wheelchair user and because you're not moving around you get cold very quickly. Polar fleece and layering are the best options.

stargirl1701 · 25/09/2018 09:44

Woollen socks have made a big difference. Thermals. Woollen jumpers. Woollen buff. A hot water bottle in a backpack. A woolly hat.

ThinkOfAWittyNameLater · 25/09/2018 09:46

The key to keeping your hands warm is to keep your wrists warm. This is all I know.

I always have cold feet so I don't let that bother me but cold hands are really annoying.

AnnabelleLecter · 25/09/2018 09:48

Wool everything.
I have a wool duvet and mattress protector- never cold (or too hot) in bed.
UGG boots and slippers
Sheepskin liners in my other boots
Wool scarf, cashmere and wool jumpers, cardigans and socks, sheepskin gloves.

MrsPear · 25/09/2018 09:51

Also thin soles on shoes are a no no for feet. I would rather my snow boots then change than have cold feet. H made me laugh he proclaimed autumn is here as you have cold feet. Mil makes me great wool socks and they are coming back out

crumpet · 25/09/2018 09:52

Big pashmina type scarves. Also have a hot water bottle to hand if you are sitting still at home for prolonged periods.

GoodbyeSummer · 25/09/2018 09:53

Thermal vest, then a thin T-shirt and then a wooly jumper. A thin and then a thick pair of socks. Thick tights or some leggings under trousers.

happymummy12345 · 25/09/2018 10:23

I never later as I hate that. When it's cold I have my top and cardigan or jumper. Jeans/ trousers, nothing underneath like leggings. One pair of socks, my footwear. And my coat, scarf and gloves. Never ever a hat as I hate hats.

JLG19 · 25/09/2018 10:29

Any suggestions for pregnant ladies who can’t fit into normal thermals? Sad

SofiaAmes · 25/09/2018 10:32

I worked in a freezing cold open office and couldn't keep my fingers warm enough to use my computer, so I moved myself into the storage closet and brought a space heater to work...clients were a bit perplexed by the mounds of paper and supplies around me, but I was warm. I now work from home and have sworn that if I ever take another job, it will be in an office without AC (I live in Los Angeles, so lack of heating isn't really the issue).

Likeasow · 25/09/2018 11:12

I discovered Haramaki years ago and haven't looked back - seems warm middle = warm feet and hands . Also a Uniqlo heat tech ultra fan - but the kids keep nicking my thermal polo necks so will need to stock up this year...

Likeasow · 25/09/2018 11:15

Mens ones from Uniqlo? they come up quite big but still cling. Or size up a Haramaki belly band ? layers, layers, layers...

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 25/09/2018 12:39

I am sitting in the office at work wearing: wool tights, a skirt, a vest, a top, a hoodie, a down jacket, a hoodie on top of the jacket and a hot water bottle with my feet on.

The office has central heating etc but I just feel so cold.

When I walk home later I will also wear tracksuit bottoms over my tights.
