The older I get the colder I seem to get(50). I layer up. I've already got the thermals out. Where I work is always cold .are there any really good base layers/ socks that actually work?

I have a huge hooded furry dressing gown from M&S which reaches my ankles, and I wear it over my clothes at home during the daytime (I work from home so am in a lot). It was part of the range that the supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whitely did for M&S and on the picture on their website she is wearing it seductively slipping off her shoulders revealing her saucy underwear underneath. I however prefer to style it firmly done-up, accessorised with my fleecy tracksuit bottoms, thick wool socks and my sheepskin slippers Grin

@macnab I got these in adult size 5 but from the children's range (same style is in ladies sale). www.bogsfootwear.co.uk/shop/style/71560-540.html. They go over my chunky calves fine.

Thankyou, not in my size but I'll keep an eye on it in case they come back in stock.

Smartwool socks are AMAZING. Not sure if you can get them in the UK.

glagdy · 26/09/2018 13:01

Bogs are amazing too. Where I live it's -30 in the winter and most people here own a pair.

glagdy · 26/09/2018 13:03

I'm Shock at the price of the bogs!! They're the same in $ here as they are in £!

I keep old leggings when they are faded or bobble and Wear them under jeans and tights. Thick socks and uggs (nothing is as cosy as an ugg boot). Cheap long sleeve t shirts from primark are good to go under jumpers and layer up without adding bulk. Wrist warmers warm up your circulation.

I have a "warmies" bear which is a microwaveable teddy bear

I also have the sachets of hand warmers which are little pouches and when activated (scrunched) provide hours of heat. This is a lifesaver for me as I suffer from numb hands and fingers in the winter. The rest of the year I use them on my tummy when it's time of the month.

Some great ideas thank you Smile.
i especially like the sound of the M&S dressing gown. I live in mine in the house, but it is years old and needs replacing.

Sweettoothfairy no I have never been tested for thyroid issues, it's not something i have thought about. I have always been a very cold person, even as a teen. Doesn't help that I haven't got much padding either.

I think feeling the cold is much more likely to be the result of simply not having much subcutaneous fat, than a thyroid issue. Although of course possibly worth getting checked out.

YeOldeTrout · 26/09/2018 20:16

Lists of thyroid (over- or under-active) symptoms are easy to find online. I don't have enough of them. I used to be an "always too hot" person, btw. I'm sure there's something wacky with my system.
