What can I use this room for?!

IThinkILoveAI · 23/09/2018 13:52

I’m buying a house (new build) which has a downstairs room of 6ft x 6ft.

The developer is selling this as a study. However, I don’t want to use it as a study, as I much prefer to work in the kitchen.

I’m after some ideas as to what I can use this room for. Any ideas?

Thanks!

House rabbits Grin

Laundry room. Indoor driers (for winter & wet weather use) and ironing board. Hanging space.

GlassHeart1 · 23/09/2018 14:20

Craft room

GlassHeart1 · 23/09/2018 14:20

Or a reading room/library.

JennyHolzersGhost · 23/09/2018 14:20

Cloakroom ?

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 23/09/2018 14:21

Definitely craft room.

Badwifey · 23/09/2018 14:22

I second a reading room. Some bookshelves, a couple of very cosy armchairs and some floor lamps. Perfect.

Aprilshowersnowastorm · 23/09/2018 14:26

Reptiles!! Heat lamps, water features, maybe an iguana?

Heratnumber7 · 23/09/2018 14:29

Play room for kids?

Plumb in a downstairs shower and toilet if you don't already have one.
Coats and shoes
Brewing beer and/or wine
Laundry cupboard (lots of shelves)
Overflow wardrobe

NeverHadANickname · 23/09/2018 14:29

Do you have any hobbies? I'd either go craft room or a comfortable reading room. Although reptile or some other pet room appeals too.

Walk in pantry and large appliance storage.

HerRoyalFattyness · 23/09/2018 14:30

Get a door that looks like the rest of the wall and a secret opening method and tell none of the family it even exists. Then fill it with books and wool and kittens.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 23/09/2018 14:31

Guinea pigs!! Get ALL the guinea pigs.

IThinkILoveAI · 23/09/2018 19:27

Thanks! I’m tempted to get all the gineau pigs! 😂

What a useless room! Surely the spece could have been better utilised elsewhere.

What's the household make up?

Plump82 · 23/09/2018 20:08

For me I'd use it as a dressing room. So a lovely makeup table and funky seat. All white and clean.

stoplickingthetelly · 23/09/2018 20:13

Make up/dressing room or a very big cupboard. Lots of shelving etc and use it for storage and drying washing.

This. Soundproof it too so you can't hear anyone calling you. Grin

Playroom/toy storage
Storage for coats/shoes/bags
Utility room if it's an option to get a plumber in

IThinkILoveAI · 23/09/2018 20:22

This is the house (but not the development):

I wonder if the developer will let me choose soundproofing and kittens as an option!

Ooh reading room sounds lovely. Or a craft room. I’m a huge fan of the secret door option that’s brilliant.

WatchingFromTheWings · 23/09/2018 20:39

I have a 6x6 room! It's my craft room! I have a worktop going all the way along one wall ( replaced kitchen when we moved in and kept longest bit of worktop) then shelving all the way up to the ceiling above the worktop.

Or you could use it for cloakroom/utility.

PrimeraVez · 23/09/2018 20:40

We have a small room downstairs that is intended to be a maid’s room (we aren’t in the UK) It has a small ensuite that we use for the cat’s litter tray and food bowls and then we use the main room for things like an overflow fridge purely for booze, the ironing board, two clothes driers, a rail to hang items on for ironing and baby crap such as the car seat, high chair, pram etc.

But if I didn’t have kids (or if they were at least older) I would use it as a reading room! Big fluffy rug, comfy chair, soft lighting, bookcases.... it would be amazing!

ratspeaker · 23/09/2018 20:52

Rat room.
Couple of double decker cages , ramps to let them out and roam.

CakeNinja · 23/09/2018 20:59

I’d take the wall down and open up a spacious hallway with loads of storage for shoes/coats/bench seat for putting shoes on etc.
It’s a very small room for anything besides an office really.
SIL has turned one of their spare bedrooms into a laundry room, it’s all racked out and the ironing board is set up in there. But it’s upstairs not by the front door, and you wouldn’t want to be traipsing washing all around the house.
Also, for similar reasons, I think it wouldn’t work as a dressing room. Bit far from your bedroom.
