What can I use this room for?!

I’m buying a house (new build) which has a downstairs room of 6ft x 6ft.

The developer is selling this as a study. However, I don’t want to use it as a study, as I much prefer to work in the kitchen.

I’m after some ideas as to what I can use this room for. Any ideas?

Thanks!

That’s a seriously nice house! Sadly I don’t think a secret room will work as its right at the front with a window... but I still vote for house rabbits/guinea pigs. Or failing that a reading nook would be good but personally coat/shoe storage would get my vote as the hallway doesn’t look huge.

In that position, it would have to be a snug - little tv room with a sofa, bookcase and Sonos

motortroll · 23/09/2018 21:00

For us it would become a sewing room/music room/study.

MeMyselfand · 23/09/2018 21:01

I think you should make it into a sex swing room. Put a lock on the door 😐

I think the idea of a reading room is nice, but in reality, doesn't everyone just read in bed or on the sofa in the living room? I am a non-stop reader but would feel really odd going into a special room to read...

I have a room a bit like this and my dog's beds and bowls are in there and then I have shelves up the walls and keep things like Christmas decorations and shoe polish in there.

Coats, boots , hall dresser for hats . gloves etc , ironing board , vacuum storage etc etc, indoor toys . it will soon get filled, there doesn't look like much storage.

Depends on the make up of your family

Music room
X-box room
'snug' for reading / jigsaws / whatever you like to do for 5 mins peace
playroom
storage - things like a filing cabinet, but also all the things like vacuum, ironing board. then you can keep all things like books, etc out of the living room.
clothes airers (and ironing room if you are odd enough to iron)
craft room

Walk in larder/still room.
Wet room.
Sewing and ironing room.
TV room/cinema

Our "study" is a toy room and where our house rabbits spend most of their time. When dc are older I'm thinking library but Dh wants air hockey and a Pac-Man machine 😆

We have a 'study' that we are quickly realising we are going to have to give up to second TV/ x-box etc.

DS's friends all keep turning up and taking over the living room. We need somewhere to corral them.

My guinea pig lives in the kitchen, he's much cuter than DS and doesn't need corralling.

This is the same design as our house!

We have a slim desk, from loaf, and use it as the kids homework room Wink

Aaaahfuck · 23/09/2018 21:54

Pantry?

sixtyeleven · 23/09/2018 22:06

If I understand that plan right there's not lots of storage - I've got a room a bit narrower with a ton of sports crap equipment, hoover, ladders, spare bog roll, shoes and jackets, the printer, bits of dead electronics, a laundry rack, a secret stash of chocolate, ironing board, stuff to go on ebay etc

The rest of the house looks serenely minimal and immaculate but god help you if you open that door

TheNoodlesIncident · 23/09/2018 22:34

I'd either do as CakeNinja suggested and knock down the wall between it and the hall, and have an extra big hall with a big fuck-off cupboard for hundreds of coats and a sofa/bench for sitting on to deal with footwear, loads of hooks, baskets etc. And possibly an aquarium.

OR, I'd just line it with as many cupboards and shelves as I could get in there.

I guess I have a personal issue with not enough storage.

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/09/2018 23:01

Yes, a kitten nursery. We use our spare room for our foster kittens but one of the other fosterers in our rescue uses a tiny ex bathroom that's been stripped out and is about the same size as your room. Perfect for 2-3 MOs until they go to their forever homes.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 23/09/2018 23:04

I used to have a layout like that and it was the playroom.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 23/09/2018 23:09

Storage.
Somewhere to put all the crap that tries to creep into other rooms.

Have a complete wall of floor to ceiling cupboards
Coats and shoes.
