Anyone had a dbs done recently.....how long did it take?

I’m supposed to be starting a new job the week after next but dbs is still in process. Am a bit worried as I finish my current job next week and could do without a period of unemployment.

I gave the completed form to my new employer mid August but they didn’t send it off until 6th sept for some reason!

It’s an enhanced check btw.

And I have no convictions, always lived in the same town and last had one done 8 months ago which was fine.

He long is a piece of string? I had one that took 3 days, and one took 6 weeks.

I'm not sure if this applies to every employer, may just be mine, but we're now using the Safe Screening tool as of September (may be why your new employer waited!) it's really random. One check cleared in 48 hours, others I'm still waiting on to clear, and that's been about 7 days.

I'm afraid there's no answer as far as I know how long it's going to take Sad

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/09/2018 17:33

Oh dear. I’ve applied for a credit card. Sad

I've recently (in the past month) done the ID checks for some for work and some took a week, some a little longer after the ID checks were done. It wasn't much longer though.

Bamaluz · 20/09/2018 17:33

A friend waited ages earlier this year, she had to keep ringing them to try to hurry it up as her new job depended on it, it was still quite a wait, sorry.

timeforgin1 · 20/09/2018 17:34

These were all enhanced checks.

Bamaluz · 20/09/2018 17:35

That sound quite promising if there's a new way of doing it, has to be an improvement on weeks of waiting.

fizznchips · 20/09/2018 17:39

Do you have your application number? You should be able to track it on the website to see which stage it is at. I think that you can chase it if it has been at stage 4 for 8 weeks. Stage 5 is the final printing stage.

indianwoman · 20/09/2018 17:41

If you've had one done 8 months ago why are you having another done? Don't you still have the certificate?
And join the update service, much better.

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/09/2018 17:57

Because new employers always insist on a brand new dbs, they won’t accept a previous one even if it was a month old.

I don’t have the tracking number and don’t know which stage it’s at. I pestered HR earlier and they said they looked and it’s in process.

My application was started on 29th August.
Using the tracking service I can see it has been at stage 4 ( with the police) since then.

Grandadwasthatyou · 20/09/2018 18:03

Once I had shown the necessary documentation to the company I was applying to I then got an email from the DBS giving me my tracking number.

BalthazarImpresario · 20/09/2018 18:08

You can only join the update service within 19 days of the dbs being done. I'm in the same situation as the OP and had one done earlier this year, called them, they will not add me to the update service and my new employer cannot accept my other one.

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/09/2018 18:11

Have emailed hr and asked for the application number so I can track it myself, see which stage it’s at. Bit worrying grandad if the stage 4 bit can take so long.......sounds like I’m a week behind you but I guess different police forces take different lengths of time.

OP posts:
NicoAndTheNiners · 20/09/2018 18:12

I might be within the 19 day window thing. I haven’t heard of the update service. If I get my application number tomorrow I will ring and ask.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/09/2018 18:12

DS2 had one done a month ago it took about a week.

fizznchips · 20/09/2018 18:34

The 19 days for the update service starts from the date the certificate is printed

Dizzylin · 20/09/2018 18:45

At work we have some that only take a few days and some that take weeks.

The two we've recently had that have taken weeks were because both people had the same very popular surname, aparently this is because there can be several people with the same name etc so it takes that bit longer.

BrownPaperTeddy · 20/09/2018 18:47

Most recent one sent mid June and received back end of August.

Harrykanesrightsock · 20/09/2018 18:51

I process these at work and the average seems to be between 3-4 weeks.

tccat · 20/09/2018 19:14

Mine has taken about three weeks

NicoAndTheNiners · 20/09/2018 19:57

Well fingers crossed then it's maybe another week, max two. I do have an unusual name so hopefully that will help.

OP posts:
onlywanttosleep · 20/09/2018 20:02

Ours have been quite fast recently, generally about 2 weeks. However they can randomly be much longer and you can't speed them up or chase until they've been a couple of months.
