I know I'm annoying but..

Over the summer the technical notices were released, this is the government's offcial plans in the event of a no deal with the EU.

They have asked private drug companies to stockpile a 6 wk supply of 200 meds.

  1. For context, there are over 20 drugs to treat epilepsy alone and there are 250 drugs which treat ME. Thats 270 medications for just two disorders. So I am screaming that the plans are shite.
  1. I asked John McDonnell yesterday on mumsnet webchat questions relating to disabity/illness and brexit. He ignored me. I've contacted my MP he ignored me. I've contacted the Labour party directly and they have ignored me.
  1. I get i'm annoying, but as a full time carer to someone who takes loads of medications I CAN'T NOT BE ANNOYING.
  1. Labour front benchers claim they'll vote down any deal that doesn't meet it's targets and want to force a General Election at that point as they want a go negociating. There's no guarantee labour will win or do a better job.

Contact your local MP. Tell them that the back up plans for no deal are shite.

Easiest way to do that is via Gina's website...

P.S my soapbox continues EQUIPMENT, spare parts for wheelchairs do we have enough? New wheelchairs. Heading aids. Incontinence supplies. Medication pumps. Tanks for oxygen. On and on and on.

P.S.S the main two suppliers for insulin have stockpiled at 14 and 16 wks worth. We are trusting the decency of businesses to keep people alive over and above the government. That's just one med what about the rest?

Really very important.

Kewqueue · 19/09/2018 16:00

I am horrified that the government has official plans which are so blatantly ridiculous - it is their job to run the country and protect us from this sort of scenario! And May says that if there were a 2nd referendum people would lose faith in politicians. I think that ship sailed long ago.

PositivelyPERF · 19/09/2018 16:01

My youngest needs meds and I’ve been ordering them just a little bit earlier than needed, a day or two, a week earlier as we’ll be on our non existent holiday. I’m three weeks ahead.

Jason118 · 19/09/2018 16:10

Why are we having to do all this? Has all rational thought been banned? Please just make it stopConfused

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 16:11

kew here here! Tell the bellends Grin

They can't ignore everyone. I hope.

perf that's positively perfect stockpiling, well done.

My baby takes daily medication, I take regular medication myself.

It's terrifying that it's coming to this but yes I'm ordering a little early to make sure we don't go short.

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 16:13

*ironic that sentence came out drunk Blush Grin

OP posts:
Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 16:14

crunchy order early and become annoying to your local MP. They can't ignore all of us.

OP posts:
LemonBreeland · 19/09/2018 16:19

That is horrifying but ultimately not surprising. I work for a pharma company and Brexit is our biggest issue right now. We will be stockpiling more than the minimum of all of our drugs.

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 16:32

lemon that's good to know. Can the company go public with how shite the government is behaving?

OP posts:
DesertCactus · 19/09/2018 16:44

Totally agree op, I'm insulin dependent type 1 diabetic, my life is in these inept twats hands Sad

FrancesFryer · 19/09/2018 16:57

Yes I'm ordering early now too. I'm about 6 weeks in front now and hope to be about 2 months in front by march

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 17:10

desert Flowers it's so worrying I'm sorry. If it's any consolation insulin is the one drug that gets a mention - the first I heard about being stockpiled. But I will keep being annoying because you totally deserve more than a promise of a stockpile, everyone does.

frances excellent! Sorry you have to do it, so glad you can. And I will keep being annoying for you to because obviously you deserve better than this.

^Stop Brexit if supplies of vital medication can't be guaranteed.
The Chair of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, said officials must ensure drugs don’t run out if there’s no Brexit deal. The Government is stockpiling medicines. This is not acceptable. Patients with long-term conditions need medication immediately or they could die.^

OP posts:
GeorgeTheHippo · 19/09/2018 17:55

Am I missing something here. It's not the job of private companies to keep us in drugs and stockpile them, surely. Isn't that the job if the government presumably via the health service? Why would private businesses be expected to bear the costs??

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 18:02

george excellent question! I think their Tories so do that kind of thing plus they got to say in interviews that it wasn't government stockpiling so for some reason they were selling it as less alarming?? Ask your MP, if you get a response please share Flowers

Two peeps from the brexit Westminster thread had responses back from their MPs in the same day. So some do like to work.

Campaign for a second referendum.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/09/2018 18:08

There are lots of annoying people involved in Brexit OP. And you are not one of them.

I hope it all turns out ok for you. That feeling of worry and uncertainty is horrible Flowers

Hazardswan · 19/09/2018 19:00

Second ref? Is something but if it's a leave result and no one has thought to plan properly again here we are again. The bellends need to stop othering disabled/sick people as if they are subhuman. Any one can get sick.

bit thank you!

Xx

What are these 250 drugs to treat ME?!

LostPlatypus · 19/09/2018 21:25

I get a dosset box (I'm on a lot of meds - I'd lose track otherwise) so I can't stockpile. Some of those meds are ones that say not to stop suddenly and contact a doctor immediately if you miss more than one dose. Those are also the meds that aren't commonly stocked on hospital wards, from past experience.

I'm trying not to think about how utterly screwed I will be.
