I know I'm annoying but..

Over the summer the technical notices were released, this is the government's offcial plans in the event of a no deal with the EU.

They have asked private drug companies to stockpile a 6 wk supply of 200 meds.

  1. For context, there are over 20 drugs to treat epilepsy alone and there are 250 drugs which treat ME. Thats 270 medications for just two disorders. So I am screaming that the plans are shite.
  1. I asked John McDonnell yesterday on mumsnet webchat questions relating to disabity/illness and brexit. He ignored me. I've contacted my MP he ignored me. I've contacted the Labour party directly and they have ignored me.
  1. I get i'm annoying, but as a full time carer to someone who takes loads of medications I CAN'T NOT BE ANNOYING.
  1. Labour front benchers claim they'll vote down any deal that doesn't meet it's targets and want to force a General Election at that point as they want a go negociating. There's no guarantee labour will win or do a better job.

Contact your local MP. Tell them that the back up plans for no deal are shite.

Easiest way to do that is via Gina's website...

Mumsnet @JustineMumsnet @KateMumsnet @RowanMumsnet thank you again for the survey you carried out. Fancy doing another on this specific area? Also could this be left in chat? Thank you again for all the work you do Flowers

Sorry third post, I should read through the thread properly, apologies. Some American docs prescribe anti virals for people with ME which helps improvise functioning for some, not all, but extremely rare to find a NHS doc to prescribe anti virals for ME, unfortunately.

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 21:13

Toga Liscenced or non-formulary? We got caught out on the non-formulary so have a private (read expensive as fuck you Tory bastards) prescription for one of DP's meds. Only med of its kind, fully liscenced but on the non-formulary list.

Will send you the links!

Togaandsandals · 21/09/2018 21:15

I agree Marklah you sound a lovely friend.

Togaandsandals · 21/09/2018 21:16

@Hazardswan, all on your list would be great. Thank you.

Togaandsandals · 21/09/2018 21:21

Oh and forgot to say @Hazardswan thank you for this post, it’s a very important issue and extremely concerning.

honeysucklejasmine · 21/09/2018 21:22

If I don't take my medicines, I won't die, but within a few weeks I'll have severely restricted mobility and be in constant pain. So, that's fun.

Togaandsandals · 21/09/2018 21:22

Yes I'm ordering early now too. I'm about 6 weeks in front now and hope to be about 2 months in front by march

@francesfryer, may I ask is that private prescription? I couldn’t advance order any NHS prescribed meds so am a bit confused. Very sensible of you.

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 21:25

I've heard mixed things about early ordering, some practises are lax, others allow a few days, some people claim their going on holiday and get an extra week or so here and there.

As above if you have all your meds put together for you it's harder to stockpile.

Hazardswan · 21/09/2018 21:28

honeysuckle contact the bellend MPs and tell them. You don't deserve to suffer or even have to think about suffering like that Flowers

OP posts:
MyGuideJools · 21/09/2018 21:46

I've signed. DC needs to take multiple medication every day.

MyGuideJools · 21/09/2018 21:48

I have tried to order their medication early but they seem to be wise to it. One of them is a 'controlled drug' so maybe that's why.

Hazardswan · 22/09/2018 13:30

myguide They can be extra stringent with controlled drugs. Might be worth discussing with specialist/consultant in the coming months and ask for an extra long prescription to be made in March. Also worth contacting your MP to make sure their aware and possibly get them to back you in asking.

A friend of mine is already having problems getting meds
Heart meds, anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, pain relief and a few more that I'm aware of.
Same friend is autistic and cannot comprehend why there are no stockpiles, why only one month's supply was given when he'd been told it would be six months worth, and why nobody knows anything

There are several issues at play here. Currently there are significant issues with medicines supply. These are probably not Brexit-related, but to do with issues with manufacture, and supply of the active ingredients. The NHS needing constantly to drive down prices has also probably had a negative effect on generics supply, where there are small profit margins.

At the same time the government has announced that manufacturers must ensure there’s a 6 week stockpile. This means that manufacturers need to be able to ramp up an additional 20% output (and store that additonal stock safely) between last month and Brexit day. I’ll leave that to you to decide how realistic that is.

Meanwhile the NHS has been told not to stockpile, and to ensure patients are not over-ordering. I don’t understand why your friend thinks he’s going to get a 6 month supply. 🙁

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 22/09/2018 21:03

Why is the bold function not working??😡

Devilishpyjamas · 23/09/2018 07:58

One of my son’s medications used to have a 4 week shelf life. We ran out one Xmas because the factory shut down for 2 weeks.

Luckily he’s off that one now. Unfortutely I can’t stockpile because he’s in hospital (private, although NHS commissioned) - and has been there a year. Due to be out before Brexit so any shortages very much my problem

He had epilepsy & is very sensitive to Med changes -.so the meds are important.

Hazardswan · 24/09/2018 17:20

wiseup good extra info thanks, have any links so I can send to bombard my MP? Devilish hope your son is well/stable enough to come home soon. If you can inform your MP of the situation and speak to the drs closer to his discharge. But I do have everything crossed that a no deal will be a no way. We're not prepared and the public aren't overwhelmingly behind it...The bellends just have to pay attention.

I'm scared.

My meds I can work round, DH's schizophrenia ones not so much. There's only three I know of really prescribed by our MH team for his condition, one doesn't work and he grew breasts and started lactating on another.

(If anyone is in the MH field and can offer alternatives it would be helpful, he takes aripiprizole, quetiapine didn't work and risperidone caused the lactation. It's diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia)

So pleased my DS isn't oxygen dependent any more.

Devilishpyjamas · 24/09/2018 19:19

Oh he is very well hazard and shouldn’t be in there (learning disabled) but that’s a whole other thread. Just won’t have long to try and put extra meds aside Sad

smurfy2015 · 24/09/2018 21:10

OH I'm well stuffed then - I'm currently on

muscle relaxants, antiepileptics, antimicrobial emollient, 2 types of antidepressants, mood stabilisers, paracetamol, controlled painkiller, med to help stop my bladder peeing everywhere, folic acid, magnaspartate (magnesium powders prescription strength), calcium and vitamin D, bowel spasms medication, stomach tablet, antipsychotics, blood pressure medication, lidocaine patch, anti sickness, oxygen as needed,

I also need dressings on an alternate day basis, continence service allows provision for 4 changes of pad a day, I'm a wheelchair user, I currently have a hospital bed, hoist, full care package,

Am possibly type 2 diabetic, have a current kidney infection, am waiting on treatment/procedures for 3 different things as well as an at least 3-month stay in hospital.

OK? If I was to share similar on FB tomorrow as ME is one of my conditions and many of my friends of FB are from support groups from various conditions. (I keep a small separate one for family and close friends)

Can I also have the list of meds for ME, please?

Hazardswan · 24/09/2018 21:38

Only be scared if your not doing anything, write letters/emails, sign whatever you can to let MPs know that a) you exist b) you are valuable and c) their plans better include you!

Hazardswan · 24/09/2018 21:39

smurfy sorry I can't make paragraphs! By the sounds of things you're probably on a lot of the ones listed already. Will PM it over.

Morning @HazardSwan - thanks for this: we'll have a look into it and see if there's anything we can do, and let you know

Hazardswan · 25/09/2018 11:21

@RowanMumsnet that's great and has sadly made my morning, thank you SmileBrew

smurfy2015 · 25/09/2018 15:01

@Pandamodium I attach 2 charts about antipsychotics, take them and discuss your concerns with his MH team and all go forward together, however, watch out for the withdrawal period if changing over as it can cause some relapse of symptoms

I know I'm annoying but..

Pandamodium · 25/09/2018 15:46

Cheers for that Smurf it's reassuring that there are other options should it come to it. I read your post, that's a hell of a lot more then we have to worry about.

Thank you for the list Thanks
