Ode to the neighbours washing line thread

So I thoroughly enjoyed and ended up twitching from the thread about someone's neighbours washing line was a mess. And the replies still haunt me - on a swing set?!

Anyway watching teletubbies this afternoon and the video bit was a little girl hanging the washing out with her dad and I found myself shouting at the screen worse than my husband watching Man Utd losing Blush

Attached pictures to see if you share my outrage! (Please excuse the mess my ds been his own little hurricane today).

Tops by the shoulders and dress by the ribbon ties AngryShock

I hang tops by the shoulders, is that not the done thing? Confused

Cuttingthegrass · 18/09/2018 22:01

I hang tops by shoulders too Confused

RJnomore1 · 18/09/2018 22:02

Why would you put off marks at the shoulders 🙀

RJnomore1 · 18/09/2018 22:02

Peg marks

I can't even type for the horror

GummyGoddess · 18/09/2018 22:04

No! Tops by bottoms and bottoms by tops! It puts potential peg marks in less visible locations.

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 18/09/2018 22:05

Nooo you get peg marks on the shoulders ShockGrin

OP posts:
VanillaSugary · 18/09/2018 22:06

Don't you just iron the leg marks out?

VanillaSugary · 18/09/2018 22:06

Sorry, PEG marks...

Almondio · 18/09/2018 22:08

Pegs under the armpits ffs. We're not savages!

ThrowThoseCurtainsWide · 18/09/2018 22:08

Even the sock is pegged wrong Shock

SapphireSeptember · 18/09/2018 22:12

I do it that way because I have to have my clothes a certain hight from the ground, sometimes I fold them over the line in order to achieve this as well.

elephantoverthehill · 18/09/2018 22:14

My DB has it affirmed by witness that anyone who hangs the washing on a line will have it adjusted by someone else. My DM did it to me numerous times when it was really hot and anything would dry anyway and I'd rather not have peg marks.

elephantoverthehill · 18/09/2018 22:17

And this is from a DM who taught me how to hang washing. I put what is appropriate on hangers on the line.

JurassicGirl · 18/09/2018 22:18

I hang dd's school dresses from the shoulders as the skirt part flares out & I just can't hang it from the bottom properly.

This upsets me but I've got some lovely 'soft' grip pegs now & they dont leave marks.

My dm doesn't hang things (or fold) the same way & I have to resist changing things if she helps me!

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 18/09/2018 22:21

@elephantoverthehill I use hangers too sometimes! Limited space on the line with a 9kg drum and a literal fuck ton of washing to do with very little outside drying time available in wet Lancashire got to make the most of it!

Cuttingthegrass · 18/09/2018 22:21

I was confused about peg marks but realise I have soft pegs so no marks Grin

jackio2205 · 18/09/2018 22:23

Just posting because I love this thread, bravo! X

jackio2205 · 18/09/2018 22:25

@Almondio @GiraffeObsessedBaby

This is gold!

GiraffeObsessedBaby · 18/09/2018 22:28

It's true. My mum would still shout at me now if she caught me doing that. Wink

Well you’ve all got shit pegs if they’re leaving marks! Get some proper ones

FattyMcGee · 18/09/2018 22:31

Tops hung from shoulders is correct, if hung by the bottom the sleeves and neck area mush together and don't dry at the same rate.

Also hang jeans and other trousers by the legs so the legs don't flap around in the wind.

And peg marks are just ironed out????

elephantoverthehill · 18/09/2018 22:32

Hangers take up less room on the line and can be pegged to stop slippage down the line. Line dry, throw into the tumble drier for a quick air and 'iron', replace on hangers to go into the wardrobe. Smile
