How long did you/would you take off work when a parent dies?

My dad is dying. I've already taken a week off work when it looked like he was about to go, and then didn't. But he almost definitely will at some point over the next few weeks.

If you've lost a parent, how much time did you take off? I guess I'm just worried about feeling ok enough to be able to function and cope in work (I'm reasonably senior, have a big team, can't be weeping at my desk etc!)

Thanks

Our company gives 3 days. Not really long enough especially if there's lots of admin to sort. Any more would have to be annual leave.

I was only able to take 2 weeks off when my father died suddenly aged 50. My employers were appalling and refused to pay any sick pay afterwards. There were times in the months afterwards when I didn't know what day it was and all my employers cared about was when I would be back at work. I left the company a couple of years later.

I was given five days. Which included time it took to get 12000 miles there and 12000 miles back. The rest had to be unpaid leave.
