Brexit and booking holidays...... what are you doing?

We were thinking of booking a trip to Italy in Easter next year. But looking at the news on Brexit I’m starting to think it’s not worth the risk of getting caught up in whatever chaos comes after March 29. Anyone else thinking the same? Curious as to what others are doing.

Nothing! Largest staring at European holidays like a rabbit in headlights, and looking at Scotland.

MervynBunter · 13/09/2018 21:53

We're going to Germany, via the Tunnel - not flying, next year. Not making any special provisions because of Brexit.

AlexaShutUp · 13/09/2018 21:54

No, we usually book early but we will be waiting this year. Apart from the chaos that might ensue with regard to flights etc, I also thinking that we will need as much of a financial cushion as possible in case the entire economy crashes. We do have some savings, and the mortgage will be paid off in December, but I don't want to commit my holiday money until I have a better sense of just how bad things are going to get.

IrenetheQuaint · 13/09/2018 22:02

I wouldn't book for Easter abroad now - the risk of disruption for those first few weeks is currently a bit high. It may all work out fine but it's too soon to tell.

ihatethecold · 14/09/2018 12:02

I really want to book a long haul holiday for next easter. the prices are about 1k cheaper for 3 of us that the last time we went but im nervous of losing money.

WrongKindOfFace · 14/09/2018 12:17

We were hoping to go away at Easter as that’s the only time we can have two weeks off together. Sitting tight for now. Can’t afford to lose the cash if it all goes tits up.

chillpizza · 14/09/2018 12:29

I’m holidaying in the U.K. like I always do anyway.

ajandjjmum · 14/09/2018 12:31

We're going to Canada.

MrsZB · 14/09/2018 12:34

We live in Canada and want to come back to visit but I’m wary of booking flights at the moment.

carrie74 · 14/09/2018 12:49

I've thrown caution to the wind and booked long haul for Easter and Europe for the summer.

I have faith that some kind of open skies agreement will have been put into place just in time. I don't think any government can have a country grounding to a halt without there being riots.

missyB1 · 14/09/2018 12:52

We were planning on going to visit the in laws in South Africa, but not booking yet. It’s not just what might happen to flights it’s the whole economic crisis that might happen, we don’t want to commit (and potentially lose) a lot of money.

Nquartz · 14/09/2018 12:53

We've booked flights to Canada in August, we were considering Spain or France for Easter but we've decided against because it's a bit too close to end of March for comfort.

Chocolala · 14/09/2018 12:54

Holidaying in the uk.

LapdanceShoeshine · 14/09/2018 12:58

Have booked 2 UK holidays, in May and July.

Sadly avoiding EU altogether until Brexit is sorted one way or another Hmm

ihatethecold · 14/09/2018 13:00

I think it affects flying anywhere from the UK LapDance, Not just the EU.

steppemum · 14/09/2018 13:08

I have to be at a conference in Germany in May.
dh and I have decided that we will wait until after Brexit to book the tickets.

BikeRunSki · 14/09/2018 13:08

Driving now looking dodgy too
Post brexit driving licences

beachysandy81 · 14/09/2018 13:11

I am more worried about committing to a holiday financially in case we lose our jobs! I always really want to start looking at hols around now too!

coldrain2018 · 14/09/2018 13:12

@lapdance

The problem isn't between UK and EU, its with all international flights.

Unless there is some sort of magic solution, ( and lets not give up hope)

We are planning to stay home until the dust settles.

coldrain2018 · 14/09/2018 13:15

We have friends in Dover who will be coming up to stay with us in Surrey. Avoiding ports, I think this is where any civil unrest is predicted to be focused.

LapdanceShoeshine · 14/09/2018 13:24

Oh, I know the flying thing doesn’t just affect the EU, but that’s where we usually fly to (Spain, Italy, Greece).

And drive to France, but we won’t be doing that either.

Sad
LapdanceShoeshine · 14/09/2018 13:32

Also I only recently discovered the Center-Parcs-type Landal Green Parks in the Netherlands & I’d love to go there but we don’t have spare time now before B-day Sad

www.landal.co.uk/europe/landal-de-reeuwijkse-plassen-repl

It’s all shit.

I just keep hoping that the worse the news gets the more there’s a chance of a U-turn...

Satsumaeater · 14/09/2018 13:40

Nothing. DS has GCSEs so we wouldn't be going away Easter/May half term anyway. I've booked the last week of June off work and waiting to see if there's a deal before deciding on a destination.

Can’t afford to lose the cash if it all goes tits up

Can I just say, again, that if you book flights, the airlines MUST refund you if you can't fly - force majeure does not mean they get to keep your money. And you can of course book accommodation if it is cancellable. It's just that travel insurance won't pay out.

coldrain2018 · 14/09/2018 13:43

this information is wrong, flights grounded because of Brexit will not be refunded, most airlines and travel agencies included this in their small print long ago.

bibblebobblebubble · 14/09/2018 14:35

Ugh it’s very depressing. I’m expecting something will be put in place but worried that Easter is so soon after Brexit day there might be enormous queues / delays / hassle. Might postpone to May half term or wait a while before deciding. Still a bit in denial about it all :((
